Have you had any luck identifying your Irish ancestors? My mother is Irish and my father is African American (mixed with European like yourself etc) and I was able to identify some of his Irish ancestors, as well as some of his other European ancestors from colonial times. Unfortunately it's only his European ancestors I was able to trace back far (for obvious reasons). On my mother's side it's even harder because many of the records here in Ireland were destroyed in the civil war
@melaninqueen24133 жыл бұрын
@@molten6009 No, no records yet. My results updates and I'm now 6% Irish 😮One of my cousins was able to trace our ancestry to an English woman, from England, but so far, can't trace any Irish ancestors. It's harder from some of us Afro Americans to trace our ancestry, due to history. And I don't know my paternal side, and I'm pretty sure that he could possibly have Irish ancestry. Although my first cousin match, who could be from my paternal side, only shows English, Scottish, Swedish, Spanish and Italian ancestry. We both share English and Greek/Albanian ancestry.

My wife is from Galway and is very interested in geneology. I'm a black American from North Carolina. Was adopted at birth, so a few years ago, I decided to do a test to see what I'm composed of (wife was pushing me to do it too). Did an ancestryDNA test and came back as 54% Irish. 62% European in total and 37% African and 1% native American. Turns out my biological fathers daughter and son had done a test also. They're from Dublin Ireland, and my biological father is from Westmeath. I hadnt clicked on the DNA matches for some reason, so about a week after getting my results I had a message from the half sister giving me a phone number to ring, stating it was her fathers and that he wanted to talk to me. He had been in America for a short time when he was a teenager and said he had no idea that he got someone pregnant 😂. He's a nice guy and we're pretty much in daily contact. It explains where my sons red hair came from, too. My youngest son was born recently, and I named him Conor. Since my birth fathers surname is O'Connor

Learning has it that around 8 % of 19th Century emigrees came to Australia & New Zealand. Post Famine, the overwhelming majority went to the North Americas. America is the saviour of more than a million Irish lives. From Ireland, to get to the North Americas was 7 - 10 days and overwhelmingly, free travel. To Australasia, it was 6 - 8 months and had to be paid for unless sponsored, which happened in one of my lines, Great Grandfather Dan came in the early 1850s then a few years later sponsored his younger sister Johanna and brother, James.

It is two of my great grandparents on one side who were completely Irish but I also have it coming from some other sides too. Mainly from my mother's side. The Scottish and Welsh results almost certainly only exist because ancestry found customers there who had dna matching to you. Its highly likely those customers got their dna following migration of some of your ancestors to Wales and Scotland rather than Scottish or Welsh dna entering Ireland lines. Having said this, Ancestry probably also do some sort of algorithm though that will look more widely as to how distinct it is from a wider scottish/ welsh population gene set
@poppinc8145 Жыл бұрын
Ancestry tests are deeply flawed, often change their results (Cushitic Africans especially know what I'm talking about) and worst part is how inconsistent it is. European settlers to the Americas or elsewhere will show their origins as Europe, meanwhile ethnic Russians are depicted as native to North Asia and North Caucasus as a whole even though they colonized it at roughly the same time period or even later. At the most ethnic Russians should be restricted to Northwest Russia and ethnic Ukrainians should be restricted to Northern Ukraine, since the Russian Empire genocided the existing Crimean Tatars and Budjak Tatars of Southern Ukraine only between the 1770s and 1940s.
