Anders, thank you! It sometimes frustrates me of how little the media in the United States does to cover the war in-depth. For example, I'm a retired US Navy officer and I had to learn about the transfer of 18 USN patrol boats through an Ukrainian vlogger, Dynss Davydov. I was able to confirm it on the US Naval Institute's web site. There was no reporting about through any of the American news sites tahat are primarily focused domestic issues now.

These missile attacks remind me of Hitler's V2 attacks which killed some civilians and did some damage but ultimately had almost no effect on the fighting.
@Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
@Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo 2 жыл бұрын
Most of those missiles are far more accurate. Ukraine normally does not communicate military losses, so we see mostly the civilian targets (which probably are also in the majority due to lack of intelligence). But I guess most airfields and known depots have been damaged.
@maximthemagnificent
@maximthemagnificent 2 жыл бұрын
On a historical tangent, if one includes the resources to develop, construct, and field them, the V2 actually harmed Germany's war effort. Ironically, the V1 buzz bomb was cost effective, but only because of the expense of Allied countermeasures (the actual damage from V1s would've been too small to make them viable). Morale didn't allow for that, of course. Being supersonic, there was no real way to intercept V2s at the time (other than seizing the launch sites or bombing related factories) so they didn't benefit from that economic impact.

The V-2 (A4 rocket) was the first true guided missile system, but to be accurately ranged they relied on the German spy network in SE England to calibrate where the missiles actually landed. By this point in the war every German agent in the London area had been turned and was being reliably run by the British as a double agent. So their radio reports combined with distorted British newspaper stories, they convinced the Germans that the first V2 attacks were off target to the West and so further assaults were directed east of London into the lowest population area possible. This reduced the real casualties and impact of these attacks. Control of information and deception is crucial in this kind of bombing campaign and this is why Ukraine is very selective about what can be reported of long-range attacks on the country’s infrastructure.

If you're in the UK, I have to say that I've been reading the BBC web site every day for news about the Ukraine war. I don't know what they're doing on the TV side of things, but the BBC web site is still very good. You're right that it's beginning to slip from the top position, but it's still being actively reported and just today there was an excellent piece in which the BBC did some top-notch investigating showing how Russia is stealing and exporting Ukrainian grain. So don't sell your people short. This American has been quite a fan. During the conflict in 2014, the BBC was also one of my favorite sources for news. I had some Ukrainian news sources which were very fascinating as well, but it's an effort for me to process stories in Russian - a bit of reading, a bit of machine translation, a bit of figuring out what's wrong with the machine translation, etc. So much easier in English ;)

The fog of war. The facts are, that Ukraine (with the support of western populations) are winning the information-war. I really like your videos and the way you look at the conflict. It's so easy to lose the big picture when you look at the Frontline everyday. Really hard to tell the outcome, I confuse wishes with facts sometimes, I tend to think that time runs against Russia as they are short of manpower, not to mention morale. A lot depends on the western support, I hope this time we won't fail. This war is much more important than people think
@MartilloWorkshop
@MartilloWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Time is running against Russia, no doubt. That is not wishful thinking. Artillery gun barrels need replacement every so often, and it's very likely that Russia needs to start sending its artillery back to Russia to be refitted with new barrels soon, judging by the amount of shelling that has happened during the war. If they don't do that, they'll lose any semblance of accuracy and they'll be outperformed by Ukrainian artillery (That we must remember is receiving fairly fresh systems form the west regularly, and likely has gun barrel refit support offered by neighbouring countries, as that's a civilian task) The same goes for their air planes, as they will be running low on parts any day now. Air planes can't keep flying without regular refit and spare parts. Their fleet is damaged already and every time they send out a ship they risk it being hit and sunk. They can only afford to lose so many ships in the black sea as longs as they can't reinforce. Russia is on a timer. We just don't know how much time is left on that clock. China is the only saviour Russia potentially has. Should China choose to supply Russia, then the war can go on for much longer. Which is also the reason why the US and NATO is keeping a keen eye on China's dealings with Russia. I doubt China will risk its economy for Russia and a war they have nothing to gain from. It's all in the details. Russia had Belarus empty its ammunition stockpiles and shipping it to Russia. Russia is hurting but they're doing everything they can to hide it.

People think that Russia's main aim in Ukraine has been to stop it becoming a part of NATO. No that's the smoke and mirrors reason. If you look at Russian action against Ukraine it is about the threat of Ukraine becoming a part of the EU with some rather large gas fields within it's territory. Russian oil can be sold to anywhere in the world, but moving gas is expensive and if you have big gas pipelines to a rich customer base and then they get a closer, cheaper supply based inside their own sphere of control, that's a lot of money gone which is difficult to replace. Russia has done everything in it's power since 2013 (and before) to: 1) Stop Ukraine moving towards the EU 2) Get control of the primary gas fields

Apparently they are going to expand the high readiness force, from 40.000 to over 300,000. Army core level to army level. Pretty drastic expansion. If possible, and I know it may be a big question to ask, but should you make a video, covering this newly announced change in the dynamic, would you consider to analyze every NATO country, in relation to this specific expansion of troop numbers. Where are all those troops going to come from? The US, perhaps, and if so, what will that mean for US deployment in the pacific? Also, could this be some sort of grand strategic trick, hoping the troop enlargement, will force Russia to mobilize?

Great overview. There is also one other reason why Belarus likely won't join the war -- it invites long ranged attacks. Right now, the west has been hesitant to provide long-ranged weapons which the Ukrainians might use against Russia itself. Such an action (or a large scale using western supplied weapons) would probably invite some type of Russian response. However, if Belarus attacks, I'd say there is little reason not to supply Ukraine with everything from Excalibur rounds to cruise missiles and jets and let them go after Belarus -- command and control, air fields, power stations, dams, etc., etc.

It's complicated. First point, some time ago Russia was also positive towards NATO, but it was a very brief moment. Second, Russia has its own military union (sort of) with some former USSR countries. I am assured that the main point is USSR 2.0 by any means, so whatever creates roadblocks, angers them. They want to be feared as back during the Cold War. Ideally they'd want to expand by taking over half of Europe and creating 'new world order'; and this is not my fantasy, there was an article by RIA news, that was planned to be published some days after the war broke off, after Kyiv would supposedly be taken over. The text of the article described this sort of 'new order' in Europe. To make a short conclusion from my answer - Russia wants to be revived as new USSR, and whatever is messing with this idea, is angering them.

The 'withdrawal' from Severodonesk wasn't 'orderly', those Ukrainians that could escape left in dinghies and boats over the river, leaving their heavy equipment behind, as all the bridges have been destroyed. Many surrendered and many were killed. Lysychansk is now surrounded and there is no way out by road now. The Russians, at this very moment, are entering the big refinery outside of Lysychansk and to the South. This was the last defence for the road in and out of Lysychansk. A column of Ukrainian armour tried to leave the city two days ago along the road and was destroyed by Russian artillery and helicopter gunships. As for the Kharkiv area, it is the Ukrainians who are being pushed back, not the Russians.

Tak for det gode overblik! I would hate to be in the Russian general staff right now, almost as much as being in the VDV. This is a strategic disaster for them and they are fighting hard just for the pyrrhic. I heard it said well: Ukraine does not have to win, they just have to fight, and they are doing it with skill, alacrity and fortitude. Russia cannot sustain these losses of professional manpower and steel, especially with their upcoming demographic crisis.

What makes you think the Russians are taking heavy losses? It's the Russian side which has an overwhelming air and artillery advantage. Most losses on the Russian side seem to be DPR/LPR or auxiliary forces rather than the Russian army. Meanwhile some Ukrainian regular units are reporting that few of their pre-war members are still active due to casualties.
@spacecanuk8316
@spacecanuk8316 2 жыл бұрын
@@blackcatdungeonmastersfami5311 The fact that they're bringing in the DPR/LPR to fight with their regular forces. There is also a lot of evidence that they've still had to pull troops from other fronts, and are frantically recruiting in Russia and bringing in Wagner from the CAR, Libya and Syria. Not the acts of a force with enough men, in fact some tanks were only crewed by 2 because they are so spread thin. Troop quality matters as well, and you just don't replace professional troops within a couple months, and the losses early on in the war were staggering.

If you have any knowledge mixed with thoughts, about RU air defence system I would love an episode of that. Like, when and where have they been tested . Do we know much more about how good it is more than the specs Russia use selling pitches. I hope US test the ones located on Crimea, at safe distance, of course. From India: ""India's Recently-Imported S-400 Air Defence System Is Overhyped and Overrated [...] Limitations and weaknesses of the S-400 system The most comprehensive and authentic evaluation of the S-400 system has been made by the Swedish Defence Research Agency FOI (Totalförsvarets forskningsinstitut) in its 116-page report titled ‘Bursting the Bubble: Russian A2/AD in the Baltic Sea Region’ (A2/AD is jargon for anti-access/area denial). It concludes that its capabilities in general and its capability to counter counter-measures in particular are overrated. The study points out that the system creates much smaller A2/AD bubbles than is often assumed and a number of countermeasures are possible. The FOI says that there are inherent problems in acquiring manoeuvring objects such as cruise missiles and fighter aircraft that are flying low or are hugging the terrain and this limits the effective range of the S-400. Citing the research of Christofer Berglund et al, it concludes that against such targets, its effective range may be as little as 20-35 km, or even less depending on the terrain.""

Subtly super-biased toward Ukrainian defense of all regions. Strategically, Ukraine has suffered serious losses. Lags in the delivery of weapons, training for those weapons. It's running out of skilled fighters and munitions. The overall picture is that of Ukraine on the back heel for weeks now. It doesn't hav control of ports, can't beat the blockade for some obvious reason, and has no answer for the random aerial assaults on Kyiv, with more to come. If you think attrition favors Ukraine, then it's like digging up your own driveway and then letting your kid try to play on it. So we always asked in Afghanistan, "what does winning look like"? We've seen this war before, so the we also know how it ends. Whether abroad or near homeland, Russia engaged in tactics that assured Assad remained, Maduro remained, Russian presence in splintered areas remained. Currently, Russia is damning the West, and the West knows it, while sacrificing for one... Joe Biden. You can play the fool, but sooner or later the court jester also gets beheaded. NATO is currently being beheaded. So obvious. This is a loss, no matter the outcome. But the outcome isn't some covert Ukrainian counterstrike as you try to sell here. It's total attrition, destruction and perhaps inevitable bending of the knee begging not the US, but Russia. And if Zelenskyy was to go, this would narrative would suddenly make a lot more sense, than wishing a Ukrainian win. It's attrition. Geez. You can't be so naive.

He is working for the government. Put in that perspective, he is in fact unbiased. Our government is totally supporting Ukraine. Which is bad for several reasons, since all nations - to a certain degree are egoistic entities. See, in the future, our country (Denmark) will need to coorporate with Russia, up in the high north. When those sea lanes become more useful, we will need some sort of security coorperation with Russia. Reason is technology. Future pirates will be equipped with drones and robots.

Russia'a political/war aim (since 2008) = neutralisation of Ukraine, preventing its incorporation into EU/NATO, and buffer states in the Donbas. Ukraine's war aim = liberation of its territory. NATO/US war aim = complete independence of Ukraine, freedom to enter NATO, even prosecution of Russian leaders. What does this equation add up to? Impossibility of a settlement --> Long war --> escalation --> escalation --> catastrophe. Please someone explain to me how this can work out differently?

Now the blood is flowing and in my opinion, there is not going to be a single state again ... two or three states will continue in the place of one . Today, after so much blood (and it is not over ... the USA-England and the Poland-Baltic satellites) want the war to continue and the pointless bloodshed! they openly threaten France - Macron (indirectly Germany etc) not to propose talks - negotiations now .....
