I think I was using the giant wrench at this point. The block value is pretty high and so is the dmg. The smaller dudes was getting leveled pretty quick so I had to actually wait a little while before the next one came in. Also the shield arm attachment is crazy good in the first play thru
@srhyse9 ай бұрын
@@hozankoI didn’t appreciate the shield arm until the Nameless Puppet fight. For the brothers fights, the second one’s actually pretty easy if you know how to manage it. You don’t attack the ones that are trying to attack you, you attack the others. Then kill one, and wait to kill the last 2 at the same time, and then with the surprise fight after, he can’t figure his way around the sand bags. I also got lucky when playing and decided to amp up Advance. Pretty much every boss or enemy is weak to something. I also got lucky and got the dodging and mobility quarks as soon as I could. There’re pretty much 1 or 2 play styles that are well suited to most fights, and if you didn’t happen upon them, your life is pain.

The crunch of the parry and the way it leads into fatal attacks is the closest thing to Sekiro-levels of satisfaction I've ever seen. It's fantastically well done and makes trying a boss like 20 times very engaging. I've never been so eager to get back into a boss room as much as with Lies of P. I thought the praise was a bit much, even though I'd played the demo and was super impressed, but by Laxasia I was convinced the developers knew exactly what balancing a hard boss meant. @@shap7296 not really, even if you master the deflect system to the point that you can't get hit, that doesn't change how fast paced, fluid, and rhythmic the combat is, plus Sekiro requires you to carefully observe and watch enemy animations way more than any other FromSoft game, especially with perilous attacks, so the game always keeps you on your toes, couple that with the really good sound design and visual effects, tight controls, and probably the best hitboxes in a FromSoft game, and you have an immensely satisfying combat system Also, your argument can literally be applied to every game ever, every game can be mastered, and every game becomes significantly easier once you do master them, but that doesn't automatically make a game bad or means the combat sucks, that's just how video games in general work, you can say the exact same thing about Elden Ring, Dark Souls 3, and Bloodborne I mean I for one find Lady Maria from the Old Hunters DLC to be pathetically easy of a boss fight, but I still find her to be one of the coolest and best bosses in the whole game, just because I'm good at Bloodborne's parry system and can completely annihilate her healthbar doesn't mean she's a bad boss, and I can still appreciate the fight and the combat system

WHY YOU CALLING OUT HOKAGE LIKE THAT
@King_Ryuga9 ай бұрын
Because the parry isnt reinforced earlier. Like with Seikro. There's basically no boss in that game that you can beat with pure dodging. You have to learn to parry or you don't progress, period. Lies of P allows you to get away with not utilizing one of its core mechanics then beats you over the head with it wayyyyyyyy later. Pure and Simple. There should be a boss that you can only beat by parrying and one that you can only beat by dodging very early in the game to reinforce those ideas. And I truly mean only beatable by using that one tactic. No half measures. Then you can be intoduced to the bosses that mix and match those options. Lies of P is still a good game but the criticism is still valid

Just so everyone is aware, Lies of P has a very interesting way in which the parry works, where you have to hold guard for half a second longer to get full parry frames and there's a slight delay when parrying from neutral. When you do this, your weapon stays in a guard position, and the slight delay isn't there anymore, which would've been fine, if it weren't for how much smaller parry windows are than Sekiro for example, and even in Sekiro, attacks with small parry windows has a very obvious rhythm, almost like the previous parry is part of the audio cue for the next parry. I don't mind the lack of an obvious rhythm, but the windows need to be loosened a bit, to say nothing of how the nuances of the parry are never communicated in game. I only suspected something similar at the last boss, and found a YTuber named HardResetO discussing this in his LoP video. Also, the camera FoV is atrocious for non-humanoid fights, as many have already said. Still, Lies of P enemy and especially, boss design is fantastic IMO with only a couple of misses. And it's also an incredible soulslike in general, very similar to Fromsoftware quality as many people have already stated. These technical issues are a major flaw in the game (and that's coming from the guy who's personal GotY was LoP), however here's hoping the DLC addresses some of these issues and give us more awesomeness in the form of new areas, lore and bosses, and maybe even a boss gauntlet with secret bosses? Guess we'll have to wait a little longer to know what's in store. Edit: Just so we're clear, I'm not advocating for an easy mode (and frankly, I don't think it's too tight save for 1 boss attack), but an item to give more forgiving parry timings as a playstyle option for new players, or have it be the default for newcomers, and have something like bell demon for the added difficulty or more ideally, something kuro's charm which gives you an easier window if you choose to collect it, but if you don't or destroy it later, it brings things back to speed would be a good way to expand on the variety. Like Keef said: "The challenge, is based off the individual and their play style. So it could be harder for you, it could be easier" And more playstyle options is never a bad thing.
@GoodBoyGoneDad9 ай бұрын
100% the parry timing in this game is off and the window is too damn short. In most games you parry just before the hit lands, but in this one you need to parry before they even attack you. It makes no damn sense to me. I practiced on the sparring puppet for a while trying to figure it out. It wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that you get damaged while blocking so you're forced to parry. After getting my ass handed to me by the first boss I decided to go for an agility build so I can just hit and run to avoid the boss instead of needing to parry constantly.
@Manganization9 ай бұрын
The parrying in this game is fine. Sekiro's parrying got repetitive and uninteresting when you figured out how it's done halfway through the game. I would hate for Neowiz to make what I think is an unnecessary adjustment just because some people just want Sekiro all over again. Besides, every attack in this game can be either dodged, ran from, or strafed, except for one move the made it mandatory to parry, and that's from an endgame boss. And even then, there are weapon skills which makes the timing easier or allows you to endure a hit at the cost of a tiny bit of health.
@zomorion91839 ай бұрын
@@Manganization While I disagree that Sekiro's parrying is repetitive and uninteresting, it definitely is easier than in LoP, where parrying isn't supposed to be your primary defensive option. That said, like I said in my original comment, I think the parry window is fine, even though I see where people are coming from, since the mechanic isn't really explained that well. But the truth is people who have a problem with the parry are far more vocal than those who aren't and Neowiz aren't faultless either as they don't really explain the nuances of the parry, and even punishes players trying to learn said nuances by spamming delay attacks in weird patterns as early as the second boss up until the first major difficulty spike. Not a huge number of bosses, but when it comes to learning core mechanics, that's a big issue IMO. Still a great game with bosses comparable to Fromsoft, though it never reaches their highest highs while avoiding their lowest lows.

@@zomorion9183 what more is there to explain? It's a perfect guard. It doesn't really work the way a parry would and there are numerous ways to avoid parrying if you just can't do it. There is a weird and wrong impression that parrying is necessary in this game and that dodging is bad, when it's really good. The optimal way to play without having to spend too much time on a boss is to parry what you're confident parrying and roll, run, and strafe everything else, and keep your weight class under "heavy", while swapping out your defensive parts to suit the boss. If you're stubborn (like me) and wanna parry everything anyway but want some leeway, equip a hilt that gives you Endure (which is reusable within a generous window for only one bar), or Advance Guard/Counter. I played the entire game without dodging. You can also be layman and stock up on throwables and never have to worry about movesets ever. The game is sufficiently generous when it comes to the multitude of ways you can trivialise having to learn a boss' pattern like every other decent game ever, and no attack is unavoidable/unreactable.

@@Manganization I parried for most of my first playthrough, and still couldn't figure out the inconsistency in the parry, until the literal final boss. So something should've been done to communicate that better, or I'm just stupid, but the plethora of people getting stumped by how the parry works makes me think otherwise. So, the fact that you need hold down the parry button and not tap it should be a bit clearer, and should've been trained. Sekiro has so many bosses and especially mini-bosses that hone in on your understanding of the fundamentals right from the get go. Bosses testing the limits of your dodge (Chained Ogre and Blazing Bull). Bosses testing the limits of your ability to parry (like Corrupted Monk or Headless, where spamming block isn't useful, or bosses like the Ashina Elite and Flayer Centipede that teach how to deal with flurry attacks). Bosses testing the limits of your ability of Mikiri counter (Shinobi Hunter and Seven Ashina Spears) etc. Based on your preferences, I have a feeling putting them all early on or in such a way that players have access to them early on would make it feel repetitive, at least to you. My point isn't that they should all be placed right at the start, but rather, bosses strictly testing the limits of a single core mechanic should exist in LoP. As that helps more people appreciate the nuances of that mechanic and allows you to use that more creatively. LoP has the room for that creativity much more so than Sekiro. But it doesn't really demand that you pursue that creativity which prevents a lot of people from seeing the intricacies of the combat, and instead just passing it off as "another soulslike", which couldn't be further from what LoP really is. That's why I suggest the new playstyle option as it's kinda difficult to add bosses in the game without replacing existing ones or adding in new areas. And barring a couple, no mini-boss forced me to strictly focus on one mechanic. And even those mini-bosses don't really gate progression, i.e. you can stagger spam them or simply run past them, which isn't teaching the player a skill that's useful in a boss fight. At least not for all cases. Unlike Chained Ogre, Blazing Bull, Corrupted Monk, Shinobi Hunter, or Lone Shadow Swordsman. I'd argue Sekiro didn't do this well enough and should've made something like Seven Spears gate progression. And LoP... while it's good that there's freedom, being able to skip almost every mini boss is a bit much. Edit: Having a more elaborate training tool like Hanbei also helps Sekiro, since you still have much better training tools independent of bosses, and LoP doesn't even have that. And this training of skills shouldn't be restricted to parries, either. Knowing how the game expects you to dodge attacks can alleviate a great deal of frustration, though LoP has Victor for that ig.

0:12 I’m not really into souls games, but from what I’ve heard, these three are considered the more easy ones, right?

Pretty much. Like, Demon’s Souls main difficulty is the checkpoints. I laughed at the mention of Rennala cause she was like the easiest of the shardbearers. And Dark Souls 3 felt better to move and attack in general compared to the first 2 Dark Souls.

Honestly surprised a lot of people have trouble with that first mini boss (granted I was close to death when I beat him, but I didnt take dozens of tries). God this game did give me an ass beating all the way to the credits though.

Yes, that first elite in the station was fairly easy, in my opinion. I had no issues or deaths until the first boss, and then he beat me like a red-headed stepchild. I actually restarted the game to switch to an agility build instead since I don't need to parry as much if I just dash in, stab the boss, then run away. You can't dodge the frenzy attacks, but you can run far enough away that they don't hit you, so that works I guess.
