This is honestly a pretty horrifying story. This woman had to endure so much abuse throughout her entire life.

She was a cheater who lied to multiple of her husbands. She was also a bad person.

It's crazy how abuse was so legal and accepted back then. Joan deserved so much better than how Hollywood ever treated her.

Stanwyck would of coursehave done a good job, but it would have been a very different interpretation and in the end, a different movie. Joan is simply iconic in that part.

As much as the crowd is laughing I found it disturbing this woman was a legend and very powerful yet a man could still body shame her and rip a dress off of her not caring if she was nude under its so disgusting and disrespectful

Oh please Body Shame. People back then were not PC. They tell you the truth. If you’re fat, you’re fat. If you have broad shoulders , they told you. Men and women didn’t run away and contemplate suicide about it. They dealt with it.

@@kiasky1 if you don't see a problem with a man ripping a dress off a woman's body because he didn't like her shoulders in a professional work place than you're what's wrong with society.

@@osky529hey are talking about the people of the 1940's. When it was accepted for men and women to hit eachother and their kids. You would get hit too for insulting them

@@muddybuddy8390 Just because it was “accepted” back then, that doesn’t make it any less reprehensible…

I heard about that. He literally had to apologize to her. Imagine having to fight for almost every part you had because of what other people said about you...she endured this treatment through out most of her career.

That’s funny, when I watched the movie I thought to myself that Stanwyck would have done a great job with the role too. But Joan crushed it and did a phenomenal job.

You gotta love her for her gutsy style. She was someone who made GREAT movies and a few camp films. But I love some from both categories and I think The Mommy Dearest story written by daughter Christina was questionable at best. Many of Joan’s lifelong friends came forward and said that the book was not the Joan they knew.

I think Joan had it tougher in real life and Bette had it tougher in reel life ..... on screen in the roles she played. Thats the difference. Yet both understand toughness.
