I think I predicted this pretty well in a previous video I made over a year ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3-bYZuwidWaorM . I said that in order for a new mobile OS to emerge, it can't replicate what Android and iOS does, it has to do something completely different. It has to use a different software layer (I predicted the web), and a different form factor (I didn't predict the feature phone form factor). Either way, the older video makes for a good follow-up!

I primarily use a flip phone running kaios and it has all the features a dumb phone should have. But there's a lot of bizarre bugs. Locking my connection to 1g randomly and after finishing a call it sometimes locks the screen brightness to full brightness. Making it so I have to manually go to the settings and change the brightness to lowest. Only way I was able to fix the 1g bug was factory resetting. Which is pretty shit.

Jio's advent into the tech industry completely changed the dynamics. From competitors making their tariffs cheap to compete with Jio or their new Jio feature phone. Everything has been going good for them. Jio literally forced out non 4G phones out of the market Now they'll do the same with their GigaFiber the 1GBps broadband project which will cost just 3.5 euros/ month And they're also planning to set up a university now! Crazy I think you should make a video on them for the story behind series

I suspect that a lot of what Google is attempting to do revolves around the idea of KaiOS being an entry-level phone. Google wants to make these entry-level users locked into the Google platform, so when they eventually do "grow out" and evolve from KaiOS and into smartphones, they will be stuck into the Android platform immediately instead of going into a competitor. It will also assist them in reducing KaiOS from expanding itself outwards into higher-end devices with their entry level userbase.

Every day that passes I hate Google more and more, almost as much as I hate Apple. Why did Windows Phone have to fail? I'm not saying I prefer Microsoft products over Google products, but more competitors in the market leads to more innovation which ultimately benefits us, the consumers.

Windows Phone/Mobile failing is completely Microsoft's own fault... they made promises they didn't keep like crossplatform app support, they did next to nothing to persuade developers to make apps for the platform and they didn't release enough interesting models to persuade consumers. I was also very fond of Windows Mobile/Phone... I've owned a Lumia 820, Lumia 830, Lumia 640 and Lumia 950 but when a couple of important companies stopped making apps (like banking apps) I had to leave the platform.
@clock1436 жыл бұрын
totally agree. MS completely dropped the ball on win mobile. its almost like they had zero interest in it from the beginning. no marketing. no interest in bringing up their app store, nothing. the worst part of it is that their os and their phones were actually really good. they had apps and features that neither android/apple have or they're just coming out with now and marketing it like its something new. i had a couple windows mobile phones and loved them. great cameras, great battery life (probably because they didn't have any apps to use on it), hands down the best voice recognition of either android/apple. Apple being the worst. Right now I have both android and apple phones. If a competitor can come out with a stable os that is the same across their phone line, comparable apps and solid phone build, like nokia did for win mobile, I'd definitely check it out.
@micglou6 жыл бұрын
The thing is that Microsoft just isn't used to push their products anymore, not since decades ago anyway.. they were criminally good back in the early Windows days and that's what made them the dominant desktop OS supplier. But because they're used to being dominant it seems they didn't have a clue how to properly promote Windows Phone/Mobile... in other words: the wrong people in charge. Only the Xbox division knows how to promote and push a product, but that's a completely different division... they should've had those people do the promotion. I still think it's the best smartphone OS I've used; it is very stable and easy to use.

I tried to use a Nokia 8110 4G as my main phone a few years ago. I did really like KaiOS but T9 typing is just awful and Googling a simple question could bring the hardware to its knees and cause the browser to crash. KaiOS has no doubt helped bring the internet to millions who otherwise wouldn't have access to it but the hardware that's being pushed out which runs it just isn't there. Sure, KaiOS can run on just 256MB RAM, but it really struggles while doing so. I believe a full QWERTY keypad and 1GB RAM would massively help KaiOS reach its true potential. Support for NFC payments would be nice too. I feel like a 4G remake of the Nokia E72 that met these criteria could be an amazing showcase for what KaiOS is truly capable of. The state of KaiOS phones really needs to change because right now, companies are just using KaiOS as an excuse to pump out crap hardware that can barely keep up with even the basics.

30 USD for 1 GB is a robbery but if you take average Australian salary into consideration and compare it to Indian one then the difference will not be as huge it seems to be. Now on the other hand think about the prices of electronics which are similar across the world. According to google search average Indian salary is 600 USD and average australian one is 5000 USD, so for example to buy a 15" Macbook pro you have to work 3.6 month in india and only 0.4 month in australia. These are rough numbers but you can get the general idea. Personally I would pick the austrialian prices (and salary) over the indian ones :)

If you really pay attention to Windows Mobile bashers you will realise that they typically fail to really test the OS to the point where it's advantages come our, preferring instead to resort to the app-centric models of competitors that they are used to. Real users however, recognise the innovation that went into it which, alas, competitor's marketing can to easily drown out

Google is dominating this monopoly game. First, the issue with EU and Google's anti-trust case. Second, API on certain websites loads faster on Chrome compared to other browsers like Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc. Third, investing and playing with KaiOS. I'm sure there's plenty more. I hope it won't kill KaiOS. It's like the updated Symbian OS but better.

As of June 2024, the KaiOS web site has major work to do to be minimally useful. In trying to find which apps are available, their website was almost useless. Apps not listed in any order, numerous duplicates in listing. Then, trying to figure out its usability, left me unsure as to just how it works.

I looked at KaiOS after seeing your video, but notice that they appear to be in dire straits. Back in Sep 2021, Google appears to pull out of Kaios, so now they no longer have any google apps. KaiOS release version 3, which is faster than 2 but is not backwards compatible with version 2, requiring all of the developers to rewrite their program if they want it to run on version 3. It's more difficult to find KaiOS phone now, many low end phone are now being shipped proprietary OS like Series 30+ or AOSP. It's likely that KaiOS may have reach its end.

Being in college, Brilliant is the first ad that actually captured my attention. Absolutely correct on the process of trying to retain notes into memory long enough to pass a test, only to not have enough time in my schedule to convert those studies into a solidified understanding (time to practice, emphasis on developing an understanding). Condensed learning, stress and shit sleep, poorly laid slides, and filler courses that seem half baked summarize some of my initial gripes. I've had some good professors obviously, others not as much, but the system as a whole just seems to be geared towards grading you more so than making sure that you fully understand what you are doing. Obviously they teach, but I personally find that information does not become memorized for me until I have a full understanding of said information, which requires time/effort/repetition to develop, which does not exist when juggling work/school and multiple courses. Never thought I'd be complimenting an ad, but I suppose being bombarded with them builds up a sort of resentment towards them. Also my resentment towards school associated stress is real. I don't dislike education, I don't dislike learning, I dislike the execution of it all. There are better means of achieving the same or better result in terms of learning than what we currently have, it just requires proper revamp of our system. Yup I'm talking out my ass, had a good sleep and now I can think again (not necessarily a good think for the sake of anyone who reads this, if anyone). Or maybe I'm just shit, equally possible as others deal with the same system and make better use of it. All I know is that driving hours to sit through lectures for hours is hardly engaging to me (varies between professors), and stress combined with lack of sleep I feel does not have to be synonymous with school or learning. Being able to progress/learn at a pace relative to the learner I feel is important as this instills a feeling of confidence and readiness for tests/evaluations, where you are being evaluated relative to how you learn, rather than if you can adapt to a hectic time frame or not. Another improvement in my opinion would be testing someones understanding/knowledge rather than testing their ability to memorize pieces of information from textbook slides for a few days, or their ability to withstand pressure. Pressure is an obvious part of life; however, the process of learning does not require this. As long as it can be proven that the person is learning on their own, stress isn't a factor that builds better students. If anything a course based around an intro to psychology would be more beneficial (in all levels of school), although ironic given the structure of the school system (30% weight exam on dealing with stress associated with large exams). I could run a course on how to ramble worthlessly on KZbin comment sections, preaching about the need for a revised school system and issues with time limitations while utilizing my time writing shit comments. I learn better at my own pace, and I wish school had a greater or more balanced emphasis on understanding the knowledge that your are forced to retain, and I feel that a better system of learning does exist. We live in an information age and yet the best utilization/implementation of this I've seen is online textbooks with mandatory Labs (e.g., MyMathLab) to bypass the used books market, and Brightspace where descent when done properly, but annoying when the computer interpretation of the answer provided becomes an issue (accidental space, improper use of key words by maker of quiz, lack of human oversight). For real now I'm done. Correct me where I'm wrong, I'm open to discussions. Disclaimer once again, yes of course I know that there are others who deal with the exact same system and do just fine, at least on the surface. It's worth noting though that there is always someone better (with the obvious limitation of population, unless we're talking alt dimensions), and that everyone is different. Applying the same system to a wide range of people regardless of ability will not yield the same results. I for instance prefer to be moving rather than siting behind a computer, lectures do not engage me (my mind races and wanders withing a few minutes), and I am alright a high stress individual without school (the only pressure I have comes from myself). I lied, now I'm done. Take the length of this comment as a demonstration of my sporadic pissed off stressed out mind, not as a demonstration of quality > quantity or proving a point. I wasted my time, now maybe I wasted someone else's, how productive of me.

TechAltar, it would be great if you do an indepth analysis of Jio's business model. It may feel like a utopia but if they force out cellular networks out of business and establish a monopoly, then its bad for consumers in the end. Also speeds may are quite varying because of the sheer number of users. All in all, jio single handedly destroyed 3G smartphones and digitalised india for people that couldn't afford internet earlier. We'll see how long this lasts though.

Having "apps" within a browser should have been the future. But instead we get loads of apps all taking up a lot of storage and resources. IMHO, KaiOS will be the Dark Horse of Mobile OS. It looks like it will become a hit especially that the main philosophy of KaiOS is to be the Mobile OS for the masses or a Mobile OS for the people who don't have enough money to buy expensive smartphones like IPhones or Samsung. This is the main target for KaiOS especially to the countries or places who still doesn't have an internet & mobile access or people who do really want to have a cellphone & internet but they'll buy on a cheaper one like in some African & Latin American countries, India, Southeast Asia, etc. & that'll be a huge market for KaiOS.

The only problem would probably be the keyboard, but I will get the hang of it. Onestly, Google is smart indeed for this move and KaiOS will probably rule the Feature Phones world.
