It's what you've competed under your whole career, and it would be a capstone of your gymnastics career if you had a skill that celebrated your name. And please consider keeping your name and passing it along to your kids, especially daughters. You're a strong, powerful, empowered woman who has broken boundaries for women in sports. Think how empowering it would be for your daughters to have your name, and to know that they don't have to give it up and be defined by a man's name when they marry.

I like the Skinner. I think it's important to remember that your gymnastics career has been mostly as Skinner and it's a fun memory to have of that time in your life. You almost had the Double-Twisting Double Straight after you on Floor in 2013, and back then you were still Skinner When you trained the Half-On, 2.5 Off, you were still Skinner I'd say the "Skinner", just bc when you were training all of these other skills, you werent married and you started gymnastics when you were still "MyKayla Skinner"

the more important discussion than whether it's fair is whether it's safe - gymnasts who were training to peak four years from now should be at a very different place in their careers than ones who were training to peak a month ago, and a year is not enough time to safely make that difference up. However it does seem to mean some really big rising stars for China and Russia will suddenly be eligible, so if they can stay healthy, we might actually have a horse race here instead of the US being 12 points ahead even when they fall three times. As a fan, that would be nice.

Similarly, country-bluegrass singer Sharon White, wife of Ricky Skaggs since 1981, remains White at least professionally, though she probably does use the Skaggs surname in legal documents & among their inner circle of family & friends. I really like her first half bar routine construction on her instagram post. If she does a ray into a pak or full twisting pak then a van leewen and a then it’ll be easier to do the triple double at the end without having to connect it from a full pirouette.

You don’t change your name on your marriage license...it has your maiden name. You choose whether or not to change your name after you have filed your marriage certificate and go to the social security office to change it.

TheBeingReal LDS athletes can forego the sacred undergarments during working out and competing because they are impractical. Mormons are encouraged to wear their temple garments at all times, although they can swap them out if they are playing sports or swimming. According to Mormon doctrine, the garments are reminders of each persons covenant with God.

Siona I know why fig doesn’t like it, I’m saying I hate that people give Mykayla crap for it when it’s actually impressive. Also this is just my opinion but fig really shouldn’t penalize things for fear of getting hurt, like I get where there coming from ( and some skills really are dangerous) but if athletes prove over and over they can do something consistent they shouldn’t be held back. As an individual you need to be able to tell yourself when a skill is too much so that they don’t harm themselves in the first place. Obviously safety should be first tho, I don’t want it to sound like I’m advocating for being unsafe in the gym. Sorry this is so long lol

Re. Skinner vs. Harmer, the FIG records the skill with the full registered name of the athlete who performs it. The colloquial name is technically decided by fans, and there have been occasions where it doesn't quite follow tradition (Hand-Li, Pak salto, Counter-Kim). You could hyphenate, and have it be the Skinner-Harmer, lol
