Young Lady, young lady, young lady! I am a 72 year old millennial (lol). I have never paid much attention to my vehicle insurance policies. Today I was getting ready to write a check for my auto insurance and realized that with all this inflation I'm short of funds. So, I told my wife that tomorrow I'm going to my insurance company and tell them I can't afford what I'm paying presently for the policy. I decide to get on youtube and look at insurance company reviews. Hallelujah! I ran into your video and you taught me how I could save some money and you gave me a strategy for tomorrow's meeting. Thank you for the video. I still have some questions after watching it. Hope you know the answers :) 1) Your insurance shows Uninsured Motorist Property Damage as "no coverage". Does this mean if someone if someone hits your car, and that person is uninsured or underinsured, your insurance company will only cover your car repair up to $3,500? Or will the Collision coverage kicks in and cover ALL your car repairs costs? What if the car repairs cost is like $40,000? 2) Collision deductible of $1,000 - It doesn't show how much collision coverage will go up to, so how do you know how much the insurance will cover in an accident, regardless whose fault it is? 3) Medical payments of $10,000 each person - In an accident, if you're at fault, bodily injury liability covers the other driver, and medical payment will cover your medical bills up to $10,000? - In an accident, if the other driver is at fault, their insurance will cover your medical bills and your passengers' medical bills. If that drivers doesn't have insurance or doesn't have enough insurance, then your insurance's Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury will kick in and pay your and your passengers' medical bills.

I think this was a great video that was perfect for BOTH people that want to understand the details AND for the people who just want you to tell us what to do. Some remaining questions I had were....I know I'm going to get liability. But do people NEED to get comprehensive if I don't care about natural disasters/robberies? And if liability already kind of covers collision...do we NEED collision, especially if I don't really care about my old car. At what point is the extra cost for comprehensive + collision not worth it for what it covers? Also some feedback, for young adults that are clueless like me. Everything made complete sense until terms like deductibles and premium came in. But after a few rewinds, I realized that the deductible is just what you always have to pay to initiate the insurance...and premium is just the cost of the insurance. I know it's kinda stupid, but it took me a bit. Thanks for this awesome video!

When you drive an older vehicle (and have a larger emergency fund) you can even self-insure for some perils. For example, I have a 30 year old Jeep and an 11 year old truck, so neither is particularly valuable. In Colorado comprehensive pays out mostly on glass damage (windshields). Older vehicles are barely worth stealing and floods are rare. By dropping comprehensive coverage I save enough every year or two to pay for a windshield. I replace one about every five years, so there is a net savings. I no longer carry collision either, but I do have Uninsured Motorist Property Damage coverage. If I cause the accident I have to repair my car, but if some turnip (uninsured motorist -- you can't get blood from a turnip) hits me then the insurance company pays. I have never had to use this coverage (or collision either, for that matter) in nearly 50 years of driving. Obviously this advice only applies to those who drive older, cheaper vehicles and are willing to assume more (but not a lot more) financial risk. If you have a 1,000 dollar deductible you are going to be paying for your own windshields every time anyway, since they are only a few hundred at worst. It won't work for everyone, but it works for me. My premium to insure both vehicles is under one thousand per year total.

Hey Justine, I came across here doing some research on a vid I'm working on for insurance. Great Job overall. On your policy you should lower you Comprehensive deductible. It won't cost you more than a dollar or two a month, IF THAT, and could save you hundreds if you have a comp claim. I'm glad you pointed on maxing you liability limits, that is important for not only giving you better coverage but it helps on your renewals each year(especially if you re-shop with another company). Just a note you might want to add a disclosure when you're recommending these changes. Some Notes: No-fault states don't cover some of the things mentioned. Also, some states do not require BI limits, and you can go higher than 250/500 with a lot of companies(not Progressive). Agreed! Brand loyalty is almost dead with the majority of companies. Def check out the savings with progressive in most states if you have a college degree, it helps. TIP: They highly rate the # of driver's in the home so if you have more driver's it makes a big difference.

The Subaru Forester’s insurance is not expensive, I was comparing it to the Crosstrek and it was costing me about 150 bucks less per 6 months and the two cars were the same year with the Crosstrek being a little cheaper.

I am a new driver to this country. I used to drive back there however I just recently got my license. What do you think how will that affect my insurance pricing and how should I handle it ? Also, As of now I haven’t bought the car yet and I didn’t had any insurance before, so what is the best way to tackle insurance companies during such situations ? I really like your video. Huge fan as a new person to this country. Thank you so much !

Liability also covers damages done to structures. Best advice for insurance, ask friends for an agent who will always be available and shoots you straight. These online companies can't match the level of service that an in person agent can. If you want to live like the rich, you have to have the best working for you.

I'm Paying high right now because I have my first ever drivers license and got it last month and already got a car. I'm paying $230 for insurance. I did the comparisons for my Geico insurance. I have the lowest. I guess I would need to drive carefully until it keeps reducing
Great video, i took notes and will incorporate your ideas. Thank you for making it!

I’m with progressive too and I am paying $165 a month for 2015 corolla. Car is not fully paid yet but still I found it expensive. No claims for 10 yrs, no accidents, no tickets, except for having a fair credit score 😆 and i think thats the reason why i am paying too much. One more thing my monthly changed to $180 per month after updating my status to married even my spouse is not license by choice.😑😑🤯

Oh geez, that's frustrating! And super high... what's your coverage?
@DebtFreeMillennials5 жыл бұрын
Umm... $3,000 for a six-month premium? You are seriously getting ripped off. What kind of car do you drive? What's your driving history?
@DebtFreeMillennials5 жыл бұрын
@Michael C I see. It sounds like you are just wanting an estimate of how much you'll pay in car insurance coverage when you go to buy your car, correct? Who quoted you $3k for a six month premium?

Your tool that you recommend to get quotes literally gave me quotes that were wayyyy more than I'm paying now. One of the quotes was for $1,025 PER MONTH! With less coverage too. For context I currently pay $170 for a 2021 Corolla.

I paid $414 for per month with Progressive!! I had 1 accident was my fault and 1 speeding ticket in school zoon. So what insurance company do I need to find the best lower rate insurance??
@DebtFreeMillennials5 жыл бұрын
Holy cow that's a super high premium! I would ask Progressive how long you have to be in "good driver" status before they can lower your premium. I don't have a specific insurance company, but I used Gabi to help me identify a good deal.
@brycesauer60005 жыл бұрын
Tickets are huge especially speeding through a school zone. When did you have the accident and speeding ticket? Usually they will drop off at 3 years.
@V.E.R.O.5 жыл бұрын
You're most likely paying that much because of your accident and the ticket, you're considered a high risk. After 3 years it shouldn't count against you.

I keep hearing State Farm isn't great, so from time to time I get quotes and every time no one comes close to what I pay. Gabi had lowest quote from Traveler's for my two cars and home at $266/mo with same coverage. However, with State Farm it's $238.91/mo for the two cars, house AND a 20 year term life insurance w/rider! For those curious what the apples to apples is with State Farm it's $172.64/mo for the two cars and house (that's a difference of $93.36).

I did the changes you mentioned and my rate went up by $152 per month! Did it happen to anyone else? Is it because I have been driving only for 2 years?
@DebtFreeMillennials5 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Your driving history can play into your premium. Do you have any accidents or tickets on your driving record? That also can increase it. What state did you apply for insurance within? There are plenty of factors that could go into an increase. Without knowing who your insurance company is, car you drive, driving record, etc it's hard to determine.
@Hard-Hatted5 жыл бұрын
I didn't have uninsured motorist insurance. That increased my rate over $200 per 6 month period. 😟
