Alimony should only be paid for a short time to a spouse of a long term marriage when both spouses agreed for that one spouse to remain unemployed for whatever the reason while they were married. You're divorced now, go get a job. Work like everyone else. And why should one spouse have to give up their standard of living so the other one can continue having the standard of living they're used to? Get a job. So you take money from one, causing them to have to downsize or maybe even not be able to support themselves and give that money to someone else so they can live the life that's being taken from the other spouse....I just don't get it
