I am on my fourth Range Rover in a 20 year span . I keep them 100k miles or more and I currently have a sport with 185 k miles no problems , runs like new and still looks great . Used it for work from day one towing a very heavy trailer, it even has the original air struts. Maybe I am LUCKY . Buying a new one soon !

Great post. I have bought three Land Rovers/Range Rover at stupid low prices because of the depreciation. I do as much of my own maintenance as I can. My son is a very good auto-mechanic and he helps too. I actually enjoy working on them because they are so well engineered, and I'm an NASA engineer - I know. The is how you get to truly own a vehicle, to maintain it, work on it and fix it when it needs fixing.

@@MrGriff305-d3u Every "well engineered" vehicle has issues sometimes. I'm 61 and in my life I've owned multiple Rover's, BMWs, Benz's, Audi's, Cadillac's. Absolutely NONE of them were without their issues. In my personal experience my three Range Rover Sports have been the absolute least trouble free while ALL three of my 7 Series BMWs (740i, and 750iL) had almost constant problems. My absolute most favorite vehicle was my Hummer H2, despite the 8mpg.

I had a LOT of similar issues with my BMW 750iL. The service advisor told me that I was having so many issues because I was putting less than 6 thousand miles a year on the car. He told me that if I wanted the issues to stop that I needed to start driving the car. I had three vehicles, so I sold it to my Sister. She drives it every day and the problems stopped.

Take it for what it's worth but, Remember this: The point is the video is to demonstrate that while the initial cost may seem attractive, those with the financial means to properly maintain the car, whether through DIY methods or dealership services, will encounter fewer issues. Those individuals who choose to skip it or simply don't have the money are more likely to loudly declare openly about the unreliability of a car..

I completely agree w/you Eddie. ALL cars/makes & model have their issues. What baffles me is how much complaints/rants there are on the web about Euro cars and very little w/others because even the reliable "brands" have their issues. The difference is cost due to the premium and origin of parts manufactured. It's a matter of paying the price of what you chose. This is the vid I had been waiting for as justification if I was to convert from VW group (17 Q7) to JLR (20' F-Pace SVR) - I still ended w/another Audi (20' SQ5). Every vehicle does/will have a general to same or even unique issues. It's the owner(s) responsibility yo whether have it taken care of immediately or hold it off and result to possible furthermore damage and spending. Either way, glad to hear your story on this Eddie and hope for the best on your ownership experience w your Range Rover - stay positive ;)

Honestly my wife 2013 ford escape had more problems than my 2015 rr sport. Granted the repair cost isn’t near comparable but for what it’s worth it was a pretty reliable vehicle. Yes we got rid of both now but I would probably buy a well maintained one again. On another my daily was an 2012 Honda accord Crosstour and the rear main seal started leaking at 80k miles and the timing chain needed replacing around 110k miles.

@Mac-pluto Yeah it does. Rich people generally have a business, or are involved in several businesses. The revenue they generate from these business ventures pays for the vehicle. I had a Range Rover Autobiography loaned to me for a week from a family member. It had the same supercharged V8. I never understood why people bought RR until the end of the week. That thing was beautiful to drive. Big, fast and luxury. They dont keep em long enough for anything major to appear. However, i did own as a personal car a Lexus IS350 F-Sport. Lexus was not afraid to charge for maintenence and it wasn`t imprevious to repairs. A 10k service, oil/ filter change was $275 here in Las Vegas. Major 120k service, plugs, serpentine belt, brake fluid, all filter and oil change was $1600. It also had a rattling from the roof. That turned out to be cables for the sunroof that detached from the roof. Quote was $5500. No thanks. Still loved that car tho, and miss it. Good luck on the RR, hope she treats you right.

The real griping about Land Rovers, BMW's, Mercedes and the like is the repair cost, not the overall reliability. These complaints come primarily from people who buy them used as the 3rd or 4th owners who buy them fully depreciated and are amazed that they can buy something for $25K that cost north of $100K new. Even though you are buying a used car that cost you $25K, you are still maintaining a complicated $100K+ vehicle. With age and mileage comes some pretty heavy maintenance and repairs. My S Class Mercedes and my Range Rover LWB are both over $120K new. I bought both at 3 years old certified pre-owned. Both have been reliable. Neither has left me stranded. I have had to put brakes and tires on both, but beyond that, other than fluid changes, both have been reliable. I had a recall on the S-Class and a bad ignition coil and throttle body on the Range Rover. Both vehicles have around 50K miles on them. I'm not complaining. I also bought them knowing that they would be more expensive to own than my Chevy Suburban. That's a given, but at least I got them both at 3 years old and bypassed the bulk of the initial depreciation. Funny that my Suburban left me stranded on the side of the road when the fuel pump module died and it had to be towed to the dealer. The tow truck driver had a helluva time getting it onto the flatbed because when the car won't start, you can't get it out of park. This is the case with most new GM vehicles and they all have the same fuel pump module in them. If they have an electronic shifter on them, you can't get them out of park if the car won't run. Both the Mercedes and Range Rover can be gotten out of park from the interior of the car if they won't start. So, yes, every car and car maker has its issues. The more complicated and technologically advanced they are, the more they will cost to fix. This is the same across all makes. Also remember if you can't afford to buy a luxury brand vehicle new, you most likely can't afford to maintain a used one that you can buy for the same price as a used Camry. This is why you can buy them so cheaply when they are old and out of warranty. You may like the flex of driving a luxury vehicle without the high cost of entry, but the maintenance and repair bills will shock you of you're not prepared for them or can't afford them.

Land Rover dealers are crooks. Every single car German or British will have oil leaks. It’s not new. I’ve had 16 and who cares. It’s not enough to loose a quart between oil changes. The other issue with this brand is the oil changes intervals. Toooooo long. Needs to be 5K and that’s it. 10K on a high performing engine is too long. They are thieves. This brand is not that bad. Worst problem with this brand is the coolant cross pipe under the super charger. That will take the engine out/kill it. All cars have problems. Love your video. That price is reasonable but check underneath for any leakages, ripped cv boots, squeaks, clicking. Turn the wheel from lock to lock when it’s on and listen for any clicks and rattles. On a test drive, feel for any wobbles or issues when turning especially full lock turns at low speed. Rotors and brakes are not that expensive if you do them yourself. The reason the price is dropping is the same theme as your video. These cars are known to fall apart on you, and at a great expense to repair. People know this, hence the drop in price.

Question: Is the 5 liter in the JLR cars a collaboration with FoMoCo?
@eddiemcars
@eddiemcars 8 ай бұрын
Kind of. Jag started working on this engine before Ford became part of them and Ford used variations of the engine in certain early Lincoln vehicles. Also some Aston Martin cars have that engine as well. The engine was built at a Ford plant in the Uk.

@@eddiemcars Yeah, the 3.9 liter used in the Lincoln LS. But I never remember that engine winning any awards. It's a shame they didn't take the 4.6 liter dohc engine from Ford. That engine was near bullet proof.

ya you ideally want to take it places other than the land rover dealer. They make a lot of money on the repairs, and will charge a lot more than an independant shop. You can buy a lot of the parts OEM online for so much cheaper than land rover sells them for. The dealers are always backed up, and their service is just awful from my experience

Your airbags won't deflate on your new one if you let is sit for a while. That starts happening well after 10 years being in the weather. Of course a oil change will cost $300+ at the dealership its a luxury car, just like your BMW
@eddiemcars

I don’t think airbags are an issue like the older ones, but I noticed the ones sitting at the back of the lot and the other dealer appeared to be lower than the typical access height. They were L494/L405 models. I totally agree with you. Any luxury car is going to be expensive if you utilize the dealership for all the maintenance and repair work. Future plans, I will go down the DIY route.

FYI if you have your vehicle in storage for a while and disconnect the battery, reconnect the battery, and if the air bags aren’t raising, use a floor Jack on the Jack points and then it will raise by telling something to the sensor. The passenger point did it for me. I’m a young blonde on my second Range Rover and they’re great just maintain it like a princess and get on repairs asap. Way better than jeeps off roading too.

Your first mistake was buying a car from non Range Rover dealer. Not that its going make a difference when it come to Rover reliability. My point is you buy a BMW from BMW dealer, you buy Mercedes from Mercedes dealer so that these dealers qualified tech who knows the particular car in question, generally speaking. My question to you is did you buy the car knowing Rover is unrilable? If so, then I can safely say you bought the vehical for one of two reasons; eestetically appealing or for the status of owing a Range Rover. Both of those reason is valid. However, you shouldn't complain about how much it cost to maintain a R.Rover. it's a known fact any luxury vehicles you take it to the dealer will cost you. Your defense for purchasing R.Rover is exception because the vehical is running smooth, and that's OK too, however, not all Rover is equal. I'm talking about over all percentage of Rover owner regarding reliability is staggering compared to other makes. Furthermore, buying a Rover, or any used vehicle for that matter without certified pre-owened vehicle is taking a chance, especially R. Rover. Even with warrantee I can't imagine dealing with all the headache of going back and fourth to the dealer. Good luck.

I knew exactly what I was getting myself into for reliablity… everyone is scared to own them based on rumors. I wanted to see if they are as bad as people make them out to be. I'm honestly happy with how reliable it’s been. Btw I don’t buy cars to impress others so the “status” aspect of a Range Rover means very little to me.
