Moving into your first apartment can be a really overwhelming process. There were SO many questions I had when moving into my first apartment. From how much I can afford on my first apartment, what utilities I would have, how to set up internet, how much do I need to save for apartment essentials, and so on.
I want you to be prepared with everything you need to make your first apartment a home. Everything from the first apartment essentials you can't forget, to moving tips and hacks, I'm here to give you alll the information no one else is talking about! Since I didn't have someone to ask when I was moving into my first apartment, I thought it would be really helpful to guide you through some first apartment questions and just give you real life advice on exactly what I'm doing.
Hope you enjoy this first video of my First Apartment Series!!

It’s honestly worth it to pay more to be in a place you love. I learned it the hard way by forcing myself to stay in a house because it was cheap. I’m so glad I got out of that house and neighborhood, even if my rent doubled lol to me it’s worth it since I now live across the street from the ocean!

Giving info on my house because here it's hard for people with a big dog to get an apartment. I am in Kansas City Missouri and I pay $1400 for a three bedroom house with a finished basement, attached garage and a privacy fenced backyard. My utilities (electric, water, trash, gas and internet) are about $300. I do my own yard work and utils are a bit higher than apartment because the house is bigger. Love all this info! Side note, util prices are determined a lot by city taxes. Water here is super pricey

In my previous apartment in Salem, MA we paid $1500 for a 2 bedroom that we made into a 4 bedroom. 700 sq ft total. My share was $400/mo. Utilities were pretty cheap, gas heat/HW+electric together were ~$100/mo. Comcast cable and internet was expensive- $120/mo. This was also a super dirty, dingy college apartment and the cheapest around which is why we picked it. All the other college apartments in the salem area seemed to be around $1800-2200. It was nasty. Would not recommend choosing the cheapest apartment lol

This is why I skipped that apartment BS and went straight to home ownership after I graduated from college! Rent is OUTRAGEOUS in most major cities, even in many suburbs! @@loveshell6945 A lot of people don't like the idea of owning a home either. I know plenty of people who rent and they feel home ownership is a hassle so they don't see the value in it. Also, I didn't have any "advantages." Yes, I got rich but at what cost? Losing my dad was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I'd do anything to have him back. No amount of money can make me as happy as I was when he was alive. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Some companies like State Farm will give you a bundle deal if you take out renters insurance and you have car insurance with them too. Also when planning be aware of what places look at. For anyone getting an apartment NJ, stay as far away as possible from NYC!! I recently moved out from Passaic County to Morris County and granted they’re both in the northern part of Jersey but when I was searching for a place, the rent was always $1,500+ in Passaic & Bergen County. So I tried to stretch out a little further and came to Morris County! $1350/month for rent (1bd/1bath) which includes water, gas, parking, trash removal, & there’s laundry units on-site. I only pay for WiFi (fuck cable it’s not worth it you can literally find everything live online just do ur research) which is $58/month. My electric bill is $48, mind you I use the AC every single night & Renters insurance $10.50. I split these bills with my boyfriend but we planned and agreed to not go over $1500/month on rent & all our utilities. Definitely plan & make an estimate on how much you’re willing to spend for everything before you move out & find an apartment that includes as much utilities as possible!!

Omg $ 1550???!!! That really isn't cheap! Our mortgages in Belgium mostly don't even amount up to that! Can you do a clothing haul please? I really like your style! Oh, and maybe and updated a day in the life of your workday?

I live in a little cute 2 bedroom house by myself with my dog and cat in Arkansas! Its $450 a month for rent, I pay $40 a month to keep my pets here, gas is $30, electric is $40 (no central heat or air) I use window air conditioners, water is $8, trash pickup is $15, sewage is $10, WiFi is $75, plus I use Netflix, Hulu, and Disney plus. I live kinda in the middle of nowhere but I love the scenery and it’s quiet and I get good cell service but there’s nothing to do here but the rent is cheap and haven’t experienced any crime here yet

Light and water? Or did you mean electricity and water? Having an in apt washer-dryer eats up a lot of electric and water.

But totally worth it. Doing laundry at a laundromat is awful and more expensive than having them in your apartment!

My greedy landlord overcharges for the rent, sewer, trash, pest control,, and a $5 per month fee to send a bill. SUPER GREED,a d I am on SS and 79. I have donated my body, let health insurance go and life insurance. I cut off cable, and only shop ever 6 months for groceries. I pay my own heat and hot water for this drafty apartment. I do cover windows and under the doors, but still high heating bills, unless someone else is on my meter. It is not easy living a long time with SS staying the same and rents etc. being overcharged.
