This is the story of perky, our diesel engine - an ancient soul hanging at the thread of her survival. Watch us improvise and persevere as we overcome one hurdle at a time, with the help of creativity, good company and good vibes. We take the engine apart, drag it into the cockpit and finally throw it overboard to have Justin, the local engine expert, revive her as for the future of Cielo!
But our adventure doesn’t stop there. Watch as we navigate the ups and downs of boat life, from the unexpected challenges to the moments of triumph that keep us going. It’s a testament to the power of community, the joy of improvisation, and the enduring spirit of Cielo.
Don't forget to hit that subscribe button, drop us a like if you enjoy our seafaring tales, and share our journey with friends who love a good adventure. Here’s to Perky, to Cielo, and to the endless possibilities that lie ahead!"

Justin, Thank You and your Team for your expert help. Many people will see this and go back to their million dollar catamarans shaking their heads, never realizing how fortunate Cielo's crew is for finding her, and saving her. There could never be a better designed or built boat for passagemaking and research than Cielo. She will return the favor by keeping you safe and comfortable. For example, nice Wide side decks. Her displacement. And a thousand other details that make her so Exceptional. Keep the Faith! Marty

No i go back to my 50,000 dollar tayana 37 that was abused but whole. that took another 200,000 to be as she is today. Fixing broken boats right costs a fortune. I have proof

😂😂😂 That's for sure! The engine was just trying to speed up the process a little bit.

I really like the fiber glass job on the starboard side so nice and smooth!

😂 All the glass work still needs to be done. We want to cut that whole section out and build it up again. This was just to keep the rain out.

Here is something to consider, Going electric. If not with batteries+solar panels, then purhaps diesel-electric by making a diesel+a high amp alternator into a genset (DC generator), and then use that for producing electricity. You can go on the cheap and use a replacement diesel engine for garden tractors. Going electric+genset has 4 major benefirs: 1) *Only one engine to maintain* i.e. not also a propulsion engine *and* a genset. 2) The Hotel Load (i.e. other than propulsion electricity needs) can get its electricity from the genset. That make it possible for you to avoid using propane. 3) It's a good idea to put the new engine in about the same place as the previous one, but you *can* place a genset everywhere in the boat, in fact you can have more than one small genset to avoid getting stuck somewhere because the boat's one and only genset becomes defunct for some reason. 4) A genset's engine used in diesel-electric propulsion doesn't need to be as powerful as if it was only used for propulsion. The reason is that there's no longer a mismatch between propeller's rpm and torque and the rpm and torque delivered by the genset's engine. You can aslo save a lot of fuel, as much as 40%, compared to a propulsion engine running at a low rpm (and thus low power output).

Great minds think alike, we have been strongly considering going electric. We're still exploring our options but this seems like a very promising route for us.

Looks like you guys are in Tanga. I think I remember that boat from when we were there. A single handed sailer went between a tug boat and a barge and the towing cable ripped off the mast and caused those damages …

😅 African style mecanics all the way! I hope you made us laugh like this, episodes after episodes, refiting her the African way, and hope you'll get her sailing one day! You can have sails sewed locally out of potatoes bags I'm pretty sure, and a wooden mast ! And don't forget the engine isn't really important, a long paddle and sails and she goes!

We are absolutely in over our heads😂 But there is a lot of fun challenges that one is only introduced to when one dives straight into the deep end. By the time we're done with cielo, we will have encountered every aspect of boat reparation out there. Which makes us extremely confident in the long run!

@@cielosquest you must have money to burn then.
@cielosquest
@cielosquest 2 ай бұрын
Actually quite the opposite, we're a young crew with not a lot of money to "burn". But we believe in our project and we aren't trying to solve every hurdle by throwing money at it. As can be seen in this video, rather than finding and paying for expensive technology to remove the engine we went for man power and ingenuity. 😁@@user-gg6om8vp4f

Just a bit of advice, when dealing with foreign people in their lands always be somewhat serious and be concerned about what your interactions and dealings with them. I'm not saying these fellas are what I'm about to describe, so don't get confused. If you show a laid back attitude, you know painting grease on your face like war paint and giving off a lax, laid back devil may care attitude, the people you're dealing with will also take on that attitude, especially if it's a poor country and you look like the typical comfortable westerner in their eyes, who has enough money and time to just sail around the world free from the worries and deprivations that these people face everyday. So they end up throwing your engine over the side, banging it into the side of your hull, then on top of that you'll probably get charged more than the dude who takes shit seriously. You also may get a sub par job done
