I tend to be a " hot" person so I wash them after each wear regardless of season. I learned from my mother who tends to be laundry obsessed; there was no dirty laundry in the house ever! We were a farm family of 6 ( 4 kids) and no dirty laundry!! My mother is a true wonder!😊

Clean My Space I clean my bras almost exactly like you, about every 3 to 4 wearings unless for some reason I sweated a lot that day. Letting them air out and skip a day between wearings are excellent ideas! I generally wash my sports bras after every use or maybe two uses. Love your channel!!

What I want to know is: How often should I clean the OUTSIDE of my house? I mean the exterior like the exterior walls, gutters, pipes, window sills, around the door frame, windows, chimney, the roof!! And can I clean all of those myself, or should I hire in professionals? 🤷🏼♀️ (Not that the outside of my house looks like the creepy house in the horror films, I'm just curious lol!)

I was a maid for a while and it's cool because I feel like I'm way better and faster at cleaning so it's easier..but now whenever I walk into someone's house I notice how dirty it is right away. Clean your baseboards, floors, rugs and light fixtures people!! 😂😂😂 And ALL around your toilet. Not just the inside!
@RomyMacias6 жыл бұрын
Melissa, I agreed with all the items and wash frequencies, EXCEPT for the bath mat. No please, once a week, especially if it sits on the floor next to the toilet. Actually, mine is placed over the shower curtain and I ONLY place it on the floor before taking a shower. When I'm done showering, I shake it lightly and hang it up again!

Melissa, I am a new subscriber and I absolutely love your videos. You are one of the best hosts on KZbin because you're extremely natural, very knowledgeable and obviously well researched, you don't say uuhhh or other "filler" words and both you and your husband are as cute as can be! I would like to just make a few comments about your video on how often to clean things. Because we are on our bedsheets for about eight hours a day, they are full of skin flakes and all kinds of yucky stuff. So when I remove my sheets I pull the four corners off and fold them all in to each other to somewhat contain the dirt especially the skin flakes and put them in a bag or a laundry basket to carry to my laundry room instead of just an arm full of sheets dropping skin flakes all over the house. Maybe I just have a thing about skin flakes. Also both of my adult kids now sleep "European style". That is without a top sheet. So unless it's really cold and they're using additional blankets, their comforter is against their body all night. I taught them to always look at the care label before purchasing anything so as to avoid a lot of things that need dry cleaning only. And in my opinion a comforter is one of those items. Every week I take off my comforters and at least fluff them in the dryer with two fabric sheets. (BTW my dryer does not have a "fluff cycle". It is just a low heat or no heat cycle.) It gets pet hair, dust and of course those nasty skin flakes off between laundering. And last thing, I noticed when your husband put the sheets and towels in the washer, there was something red with those. Uness it's an item that I have washed over and over and over, I always wash my reds separate. (I try to avoid buying a lot of red items, especially towels and T-shirts. Pick another color that does not have to be handled separately). Thanks for the great videos. I look forward to new ones all the time.

Thanks so much for your lovely comment, Deborah (my middle name!!). I really appreciate it, we all try so hard to be fun and professional here, so I am glad it is resonating with you. You have some great tips in here! That red hand towel is a very old one so we didn't worry about colours bleeding, but normally yes, red has to be washed on its own at first! Re: the dead skin cells, what you are doing sounds good and smart, I haven't heard of this before!

Clean My Space yeah I've also been taught to fold the corners in and leave all the comforter & sheets in it & it gets hauled downstairs in 1 shot. The only difference is that the comforter also gets washed as well. & we try to keep the animals out of our room (the dogs know the rules, however the cats are the challenge). P.s. I unclogging our air jets in our hot tub with your vinegar bathroom cleaning solution & leaving it overnight. It did a far better job than the air compressor, which only managed to open 2 air inlets after an hour of messing around & detaching hoses in small area in the wall. Realized it was going to be a huge undertaking to try and open other air inlets. Then "light bulb" went off & I remembered how your cleaning solution stuff worked for getting hard water calcification off the shower head. So today we were happy when we pressed the button and ALL the air bubble inlets worked. Yay! Anyways, thankyou so much! I love your videos & your presentation skills. Thanks ☺

Deborah Parks I don't mean any disrespect but you do realize that your skin is naturally shedding "flakes" 24/7. That's part of what dust that we find around our homes is made of. You leave a constant trail of skin flakes every time you walk /move.

I recommend once the little one begins potty training having a few waterproof bed protectors on hand to protect your mattress. It has been a life saver for me. Having more than one means your mattress won't be exposed while the"soiled" one is in the wash. (Also very handy right after delivery.)

Chris Keith. I know what you mean, I balked at the prices when I first started searching but I managed to find one at Wal-Mart. The mainstays line had a king size for under $40 (and not a dreaded plastic sheet, it is very nice and it doesn't crinkle)which was $30 cheaper than any other I've found. It has been five months and I've had to wash/dry it at least once a week and it has so far held up great. It line dries quickly to.

When I moved stateside to be with my husband, I was so annoyed by the bed linen situation that seems to be the norm “over there”. One large comforter, and a bunch of other thin linens that just bunches up and was generally uncomfortable. And always tugging and fighting over the comforter. I hated it! My husband didn’t see the problem. Then we moved to Norway. And the norm here is you have your own single-person “naked” duvet that you put bedcovers on. Then change the bed cover every week or so. So much easier than having to wash and dry a thick heavy comforter. Deep clean your single duvet every 6-12 months. And my husband was amazed about how wonderful it was to be in charge of your own duvet! You can tuck it and shape it around your body as you like, and you get your own temperature zone under there. Amazing stuff!

I think it is important to do a couple times per year, since stuff does fall back there and you want to avoid any critters from finding that hot spot, plus dust can clog up the vent/intake functions over time. But nothing more frequently than that.

After I shower I take the corners of the liner with the magnets in them and stick them to the opposite side of the tub so the hemline hangs free not stuck against the side of the tub. That way it dries completely and mold doesn't develop along the bottom of it.

I have 2cats and one is prone to hairballs, and apparently hates the color white( I have a reversible comforter gray on one side, gray and white stripes on the other) and it never fails the day I put the white side showing is the day the cat will get on my bed and throw up. I have to wash my comforter atleast once a week. It’s annoying because I went from a queen to a king and only have the one comforter, but I have now put the king comforter down and now I keep a queen comforter on top Incase that happens. It’s quicker and easier to wash a queen size comforter than it is a king. :)

I recommend cleaning everything way more. I wash blankets once a week like sheets. Before I had my own washer I would wash them once a month at laundry mat now new home washers wash them easy. And amazon and Walmart sells what they call quilts (not old school) but they are nice thick no puffy filling though that hates being washed. You can get them in any color or design and like the last one I got at Walmart for $20 holds up through 50 washes now on sanitize and highest drying and still looks good as new. I never reuse a towel - have tons of them and wash clothes and then just wash them all once a week. I would never use a bath mat - instead I use hand towels on the floor for when I get out of shower and before I put in hamper I wipe it all around floor with feet making sure to get up any water. And I would never re-wear a bra unless I literally never sweat or hadn't taken shower yet and need to run to store real quick.

to keep the shower and shower curtain from getting mildewed or having soap scum... first, don't use solid soap (ever), go to the beauty supply store and get a gallon of shampoo that you like the smell (must be pH balanced [acid round pH3]) and get refillable pumper bottles for hand and body soap (i worked in an aveda salon and the body soap in the same scent as the shampoo was more expensive but was virtually the same... i love using tea tree shampoo or peppermint shampoo as body soap and hand soap [it tingles]) the shampoo is designed to not leave any residue so there's no residue on your shower or shower curtain. to add to that, another way is to have a spray bottle filled with distilled vinegar to spray down the curtain liner, tub and tiles (acid environment discourages and kills mold and fungus, spray your feet after your shower to avoid athlete's feet) before you leave the shower. stretch the shower curtain closed, then push the bottom curtain into the tub and pull bottom corners of the liner to wrap around the curtain toward the outside of the tub and secure together with an alligator clip and leave that way until dry, when dry, remove and straighten the curtain/liner. you will never have soap scum or mildew to clean ever again and it will always be disinfected.

My pillows get washed 2 or 3 times a year and the mattress turned 3 times a year and rotated twice a year. How do you clean upholstered furniture?
@jaylenebiesemans58557 жыл бұрын
Jan W. I would like to know too
@amyeades93277 жыл бұрын
If you’re talking about cloth upholstery, the best way is to use your vacuum. Most vacuums have an attachment for cloth upholstery or draperies. If you’re concerned about odors (who isn’t?) you can sprinkle the surface with baking soda - with or without a few drops of essential oils - or some kind of scented carpet/upholstery powder, leave it for an hour or so & vacuum the powder & dirt up together. If you’re talking about leather or vinyl upholstery, use ONLY a damp cloth & use a dry cloth to remove the moisture. I’m not sure about lawn furniture, but it will be far tougher than your indoor furniture, so you could probably use most multipurpose cleaners on it. Hope this helps! 😊

Melissa in your video you chucked your microfiber towel in with your regular towels. Won't that damage them?

@cleanmyspace I have a question for you. Have you heard of norwex or ecloths? My sister-in-law introduced me to norwex and I'm a bit skeptical. I just wanted to know your thoughts and if you have tried these products. I started using barkeepers friend to clean my pans after the video you did comparing it against borax and baking soda. Thanks for all your helpful videos, I don't know how much money I have saved, but I definitely have and feel the products I have are safer for my family and environment.

I use Norwex and use to sell them. I love the blue diamond for my shower. I can give each of my kids an eviro cloth and it cleans the whole bathroom. Love them.. I have very sensitive skin so most cleaners burn me. Even Ms. Myers does.

Hi Melissa, just wondering what type/brand of bed sheets you use in this video? It looks really soft and nice. I’ve been looking for a nice set for a while and all the ones i’ve got so far are just too stiff. Thanks so much for so much tips and tricks you have been sharing about cleaning, it helps me a bunch. 👍🏻😘❤️😘😘😉😉

Ok random question: Why do sheets say to wash in warm when all I've read and watched on line says to wash them on hot or sanitize (depending on the reason)?

The inside of the dishwasher is a place that sounds silly to think about cleaning. But I have well water and the inside of my dishwasher has what looks like coffee stains on the bottom. I rinse my dishes before they go in. I've tried adding baking soda to the wash. Other times I've added white vinegar, in hopes the stains would go away. They seem to be "baked on" by the heat element. I'm thinking of maybe scrubbing with a Magic Eraser sponge next. Not sure if Comet or Soft Scrub is bad for the inside of the white dishwasher? The stains kind of gross me out!! Hahaha!! ♡ Thanks from Oregon

Are pillow protectors the same as a pillowcase?
@jessicagrimberg7 жыл бұрын
No they are not the same. 😉
@Nina-gl7lo7 жыл бұрын
No. Use pillow protector on the pillow then add pillowcase over the pillow protector.

You should have a mattress protector too, new pillow is maybe 50$ max, new mattress is 400$ easy. It's just an extra layer of absorbing fabric protecting from sweat etc. If you don't use them your pillows will get yellow stains. However, a pillow should be renewed fairly regularly. As soon as the stuffing does not give enough support anymore you need a new one. Say every 2, 3 years.

When I was young I always cleaned my mom's house. Now that I'm getting older sometimes feel lazy but still keep the motivation. I can't stand a dirty house.
