That DBZA reference got me. Cthulhu is probably the scariest thing, outside of human tenacity, that xenos could encounter. And Cthulhu being confused with humans just summoning him to destroy everyone else out of spite was just perfect. "Dude, dude... are you okay?" Best line ever!

Imagine xenos looking at our texts and finding out about how many world ending monsters we have on record. That and SCP, just tell them "it might be real, best not to think about it". There is a comic somewhere where cthulu is portrayed as a wholesome adoptive father. Lots of good stuff in that one (author keeps pulling the rug out on reader expectations).

According to the original stories Cthulhu is from, Cthulhu barely even registers our existance, and the only reason he bothers to contact humans at all is because he needs somebody, ANYBODY, to release him from his eternal sleeping stasis when his city rises and can be accessed. Essentially now that his Star Spawn (his ACTUAL accompanying race of mini-him warriors and the race he actually cares about) are either in eternal dreaming like he is or extinct, he is willing to try and control any creature he can influence to loose him out of desperation... even vermin like us he normally wouldn't even make note of. The reason him being released is enough to wipe us all out is not because he is malevolent towards us, but because he is INDIFFERENT to us completely and won't give a shit if we are caught in the crossfire between him and his ACTUAL enemies, others of his kind, as he and his armies claim the world he has deemed his for himself and drives them out. That reality-bending war would assuredly wipe out most life on the planet, not just us, just by happening. Cultists of him are actually promised nothing by him and he ignores their pleas just like you and I would ignore the begging of ants. They just delude themselves in their ignorance of his nature into THINKING there is some boon or reward for serving him other than the reward a rat would get for being mind controlled into opening a lock for an imprisoned psychic; that is... a free psychic and not another goddamn thing.

When Joker was made the studio refused to release it as it was. They made them change the movie. First, Arthur was Wayne's son. He meets his father, and finds he is monster. He say something about wishing Arthur had died. Knew he had a son, and only wished he was dead. Harsh. Arthur does have a relationship with the girl, but when he kills those men on the subway, she tells Arthur, "I can't have you around my daughter." Arthor does speech to him self saying, "I can't have a normal life. That's not who I am." He realizes that he is fundamentally flawed. Arthur abandons his attempt at being normal when kills his mom. He acepts that he just not that person.

I wonder if OP knows that looking at Cthulu doesn't actually cause madness? It's quite the common misconception. Non of the Lovecraftian Creatures (Outer Gods or not) cause madness just by looking at them. I mean some people do go mad but there are other completely normal mortals in Lovecrafts Stories that have perceived even beings as powerful as Azatoh and were fine. So it's different from person to person.

I'm not so keen at how Cthulhu was portrayed in this story, Cthulhu is supposed to be a creature so big and so powerful that it literally views humanity as less than insects, nothing more than a minor annoyance. Why would Cthulhu even acknowledge a human trying to summon him let alone talk to him? and don't get me started on the way they had Cthulhu speak, sounding like a teenager or something
