Agreed, plus every time i take a look at some "super high realistic" game i get massive uncanny valley vibes because everybody looks like clay, and not in a charming clay-mation sense. The last thing i want when playing a game is to hate looking at it, it's one of the reasons I stopped playing witcher 3. If presented with two games that play exactly the same, but one is stylized and one is realistic, i will take the stylized one every time.

I would argue this is a good thing. Everyone wants amazing quirky things, but there's no way to know what's a good idea until it's been tried and polished. So they'll push out some stinkers and some amazing games. And unlike Microsoft, when they release an amazing game, they make a better one based on the same premise later. (Whereas Microsoft shitcans the people who made Hi-Fi Rush.) Even Astro here is hardly out of nowhere. Astro was a VR-exclusive title, then a launch demo, THEN this game. People loved the VR game, so they gave them a chance for a non-VR title and people loved that too, so they gave them a full-ass game. It sounds obvious and sensible because it is, but it also goes against the "every game must make a billion dollars a year forever or it's garbage" thinking that every other major publisher has these days.

Also, I frankly disagree that gaming, at least the Triple A sphere, learned anything from Astrobot. I don’t think publishers are unaware that people dislike live service games. The problem is that most of these began development SO long ago in an era when they were all the rage, but so much time has passed and budgets are so high that they have no choice but to shove the games out in the faint hope of making some amount of money back. The live service craze we’re seeing is just the remnants of a bygone era, and I fully believe within a year or two this will be over.

I always had both Nintendo & PlayStation consoles. Metroid: Other M is my biggest disappointment in video games, because I'm a huge Metroid fan and I wanted a third person Metroid. Returnal (PS5, Steam) is the most Metroid game you could get in third person. Shadow of the Colossus is also one of my favorite games, and for me, this is The Legend of Zelda without the rights for the IP.

Its basically a standard 2D Platformer where levels take place in a stage and as you move from one area to another different sets pop in and out to show that transition between areas. On top of that kutaro posses these scissors which can cut through anything and its a blast to use. Combined with the incredibly dark story and multiple spoiler heads kutaro collects . Its an absolut blast from start to finish. I highly recommend people to give it a shot if you have a ps3 emulator

The reason ps5 has no games, most large studios were working on live service games and then the others realized they didn’t need the extra power to make the game they wanted to make. No one used the ps5 controller features because that’s extra overhead that adds very little to the game it might take months to make the peripherals features for Leviticus ps5 work properly then they need to make a separate version that works with other controllers

I might suggest psychonauts 2 since it sounds like there are a number of mechanics you mentioned from this game that sound suspiciously like some of the creative mechanics in both the first and second game of psychonauts. They are probably a little more rough around the edge (apparently double fine is still considered indie? So. small budgets?) Glad you found a very enjoyable experience out of a game, though!

I absolutely loved Astro Bot! It’s one of the few recent games that genuinely put a smile on my face while I was playing it. Everything about it is so well put together, it’s challenging enough but not too difficult that my kids can’t play it. I have one request for them. I need them to make a real version of the graffiti controller, it’s such an awesome design!

@@vdpt9911 Yeah, that's the thing, This is their 4th game, and for my understanding, is pretty much a direct sequel in gameplay style to the last one, I also find weird he use the time stop ability as the most incredible one, when I'm pretty sure slowing time is like the most commong power up in a platformer.

@@UltraPaperGamer I think if you come at it from a novelty standpoint, it makes a little more sense. No knowledge of their previous work, long time since playing previous 3D platformers, used to Nintendo's work so their iteration is more subtle, smaller or just too experienced, but that's a lot of qualifiers. I also found it weird that he said many console platformers ape Mario's style, but includes Crash, Banjo, and a bunch of other reasonably distinct IPs (worlds, characters, stories, mechanics, difficulty, atmosphere, focus, etc.), yet somehow Astro is distinct...and then it's not really well explained how the novelty is different from something like Galaxy or Sunshine? Real headscratcher.

I do think having Astro bot will be a great thing to spark competition and keep other companies from stagnating, assuming Sony doesn’t fumble this like they have with every other good studio they’ve had recently.
