This was my highest attack monster i ran. back then i won alot of local tourneys. Ran it pretty effectively. Most of my deck was geared toward negation, and countering everything through traps, magic, and effects. Attack and your moster dies, summon or special summon your monster dies, facedown effect monsters negate their effects and it dies, was fantastic. With a 40 card deck, including pot of greed, graceful charity, etc Sinister serpent as a discard to pay my discard costs for counter traps. Back than everyone ran ring of destruction/magic cylinder. i always loved flipping barrel behind the door

I mean...its OCG name is Revolver Dragon. The character who played Rokkets is named Revolver. Rokkets are bullets loaded into a "gun dragon" (Gun Dragon being the officially unofficial term for Barrel Dragon-adjacent monsters). It's pretty obvious. Fun fact. When I was about 7 I went to a new school for a few days to see how I'd like it and if it was worth attending full time. Long story short, I was playing hide and seek with some kids on my last test day there and my finger got caught in a door hinge. Said finger got fractured, it was a big ole mess, everyone felt awful about it. But as I was leaving to go to the hospital, to help me feel better this one teenager I'd been following around gave me his Barrel Dragon because he knew I really liked the card. Never got much use out of it, and I wouldn't get my finger crushed in a door again for one, but I still really like it.

Granted, that's not saying much since two tribute monsters were always pretty terrible outside of the card that dethroned him (DMoC). By the time Blowback Dragon was printed there were already quite a few single tribute monsters that outclassed him.

Tossing 3 coins and getting "at least 2 heads" has a 50% chance of happening, so you would expect to destroy 0.5 monsters per turn. Tossing 2 coins and getting 2 heads has a 25% chance of happening, and this effect only works on summon, so you would expect Twin Barrel Dragon to destroy 0.25 monsters total As for Desperado and Gattling, which have very similar coin flip effects, you would expect to destroy 1/8(0)+3/8(1)+3/8(2)+1/8(3)=1.5 monsters per turn. This is an ENORMOUS improvement from the original barrel dragon, and even more so from twin, which is literally a vanilla 75% of the time.

I'm a little disappointed that there wasn't a segment on Blowback Dragon since it is a strictly better Barrel Dragon by requiring only 1 tribute and targeting anything. The search effect of Desperado is a really cool effect, as it searches based on the presence of a phrase rather than an archetype. Makes me wonder if you could search alternate win conditions with the same logic by saying add a card to your hand with a duel winning effect

Just to add to the discussion: Gatling Dragon was also great on Duel Links in Cyber Stein decks, especially pre-nerf Life Cost 0. Twin-Headed also saw play on early DL and with Desperado decks. As for Speed Duels, Barrel Dragon only saw rogue play. However, Blowback Dragon saw good amount of play in the early Battle City Box format because of Inner Conflict and being a Dark target for Allure. However, it then lost favor to Kaiser Glider because of its low defense making it weak to Book of Moon and the unreliableness of the effect.

Nicholas is right. Out of the 8 possible combinations of coin flips 4 of them are 2 heads. Barrel Dragon doesn't need exactly 2, just at least 2. A few other comments on this video explain the math behind a lot of the cards in today's video :)

Kinda surprised you didn't go over Blowback Dragon at the time it was a complete upgrade over Barrel Dragon it was one fewer tribute which matter since the only two tribute cards even getting consideration were DMoC and Nepthys, but it could also target any Card your opponent controlled not just monsters. the Downside was the 2300 atk making it just under the acceptable 2400 for a single tribute at the time.

Yeah, it's pretty surprising, but that's probability for you...Generally, you have to get 2/3 heads, but there are 8 different outcomes of which only 4 actually allow you to activate the effect.

Every Duel Links player is talking (complaining ? deserved tho) about Desperado, but I remember Toon Barrel Dragon being one good target to the skill "Three Star Demotion". What it did is basically reduce the level of a monster by 3 in your hand once per duel (I can't remember if the condition "having Suijin, Kazejin or Sanga of the Thunder in your hand" was already there or not). You could just use the skill, then normal summon your fresh new level 4 Toon Barrel Dragon and maybe pop a card. The skill was nerfed tho - because of the ninja deck being too OP with 3SD - requiring players to lower their LP to 1000 to use the skill on any monster (no restriction at all for the gate guardian materials, as mentionned)

Konami didn't have mathematicians working with them back in the day. Most of these coin flips and requirements are redundant. Flipping 3 coins and needing at least 2 heads is exactly the same as flipping 1 coin and landing on heads. Here are the probability 1 coin flip head: 50% Barel Dragon 3 coin flip, 2 heads: 50% Blowback Dragon 3 coin flip, 2 heads: 50% Gatling Dragon 3 coin flips, 0 heads 12.5% 1 head: 87.50% 2 heads, 50% 3 heads, 12.50% Twin Barrel Dragon Flip 2 coins, 2 heads: 25%

Back in the day during Critter Format, Barrel Dragon was actually a good side deck option. Defensive Burn was a decent strategy back then since there were so many 2000 def 4 star monsters as well as Wall of Illusion so Barrel Dragon and Soul Exchange were a good way to deal with them.

Technically speaking, Barrel Dragon was the best Two Tribute monster in the game for about 2 years until DMoC was released. That's not really saying much but hey, I guess it's something.
