Just binge-watched the other movies, I had a working theory that the makeover of the predator in "Prey" was actually the other species from the blood feud in "Predators". The lack of energy-based technology could've been the split from the main predators but from a story/audience perspective served to give Naru a better chance at fighting it.. Seeing how the direct quote from Trachtenberg seems to be more along the lines of it just standing out from the other predators from the series, I have no clue how to feel.

I thought it was great. The feral predator was not only new, he was inexperienced with his OWN weapons... so aside from the 300 yr evolution of the predator, this was a youngblood who just completed his basic training.

What I don't understand is, how is the Feral Predator breathing our atmosphere? In all of the Predator movies, the alien warriors all wear a metal mask that maintains an atmosphere that they breathe. In Prey, this predator has no problem with that. It's wearing a helmet mask, but its mouth/mandibles are free to move. How's it not suffocating after a few days?

Really enjoyed Prey! Im a huge Predator fan, this was very different but very well considered, acted and executed. Some excellent elements that i wont spoil and little dash of comic relief here and there.

I love how even with the Predator's supreme advantage they didn't make him untouchable, even with his cloaking device turned on. He was learning to hunt on the job and was some way off being at the level of 1987 Predator that we're used to.

@@Cobra_Scythe Perhaps the mask needs to be with in a certain range of the gun to wirelessly connect. Beyond that range the gun defaults to unguided mode. Since the predator didn't know what happened to the mask, perhaps it thought the gun was in unguided mode and pulled the trigger.

04:08 In fact, more than a makeover as such, I feel like Dan Tratchenberg really just understands the physicality of the characters. In both the first and second predator movies, they were never this overly muscular characters, despite being obvious that the predators were way stronger than the average human. They were very tall and lean, impliying than more that just brute strength, they have agility and speed at their side. And about the head being too big, I've even seen a couple of videos here on youtube abut how the production teams of more recent predator movies actually messed up with the proportions of the characters, making the head of the costumes way to big, which gave them a very dumb appearance. I still thought the head of the Feral Predator was slightly bigger than it should, but I'm glad that Tratchenberg understood all of this and was able to make such a cool predator for this film.

For example, the fugitive predator from "The Predator" looks goddamn awfull when he doesn't have the biomask on. The head looks way to big, it almost seems like it has no neck, and the servos from the mandibles are so cheap that they could barely close the mouth...

The cg predators look too "glossy" and move in ways that make them seem more rabid animal than cunning hunter, which works well enough in this prequel, but sometimes, it's crazy roars make it less intimidating for me compared to the clicks and growls. But that is just preference

This was definitely an immature Predator who had not yet earned his place in his clan or access to more advanced weaponry. However, Its natural physical prowess still made him very formidable! This young Predator was the perfect opponent for Naru to complete her Kühtaamia!

I thought "meh." But after further thought, maybe I need to watch it again. I came to the conclusion that the reason the Pred didn't use more advanced weaponry against the natives and the beasts was to make the prey more of a challenge. Some weaponry was used later against the trappers since they had firearms and posed more of a threat. And also, the Preds are all individuals, each different in how they follow their kinds' codes and customs. The one in this movie appeared to be of the kind that hunts other Preds, as shown in the movie PREDATORS.

I saw the movie last night. Ive been a fan of the series since i was a kid. This predator ( Yautja ) version was different and refreshing. This version was more primitive or maybe not as disciplined in its behavior compared to the others, which i found more high tech and calculating. This version also was bested by humans in ways i didnt think possible based on the other movies. Its almost as if hundreds of years ago the Yautja didnt have the tech they have now, or this particular species of Yautja is somehow different and a sub-species. I like did a lot, it was a refreshing change that also hinted at the original in many ways. Great job..now i just hope the get the next Alien movie or rumored series right!!

That orange flower/herb she wore around her neck also aided in cloaking her from the predators senses. It’s in the scene where she sets up the French general or whatever. At first she thought it was because she wasn’t considered a threat. If you notice it was like she was invisible to him from the beginning, when he killed the bear. I’ve been a fan of the franchise since the 80’s 😂. I think all but the 2nd one were well done.

After seeing this video, just noticed since the movie was so dark cannot see a thing, the Predator had straight hair not dreads... also, they have ships, cloaking, and all other techs, a skull as a mask, aliens from another galaxy and this in the movie,. weird... movie was good but ...

The key difference between this Predator movie and the previous ones, is that the previous Predators were defeated by trained and experienced combatants and this new feral Predator was beaten by an inexperienced girl and her dog. Well at least this movie made an attempt to show some character growth in the female lead by having her train some so she doesn't fall into the Mary Sue status.

U forgot the predator sustained several injuries through the whole movie it fought a bear it fought narus brother it fought the fur trappers and it took a shot to the head before it’s final confrontation

@@renatoreyes6583 yeah the 100 pund girl fought a already tired and bloodied Predator....it's amazing that she won.... Yeah I stick to the actually good Predator movies. Predator 1: Unstoppable, wounded once in a hell fire of bullets from multiple assault rifles, smgs, grenade launcher, and a !MINI-GUN!, ends up with one leg wound and patches itself up. Kills everyone in his hunt, until going one on one with Dutch, who barely, and I'm barely wins. Predator 2: Kills drug dealers, cops, special forces, and criminals left and right, without a scratch. Over the coarse of days mind you. Finally has a fight with Danny Glover, and a long drawn out fight, looses and arm, before finally being killed with its own weapon. AVP1: Kills Aliens and humans alike, fights a Queen as a unblooded, only titled that because it's clan hasn't seen the mark that shows its killed an Xenomorph, dies in the end as a badass. AVP2: Predator called Wolf, Kills Aliens, humans, cops, and fights a Pred-Alien hybrid to a draw. Predators: 3 Super Predators vs multiple highly trained and experienced killers from Special Ops to serial killers. With Berserker being one of the strongest and toughest Predators at that time, only rivaled by Wolf from AVP2, and is only killed after fighting another Predator and then 2v1 against human Special forces, after its cloak and heat vision are made useless and Beserker STILL, barely lost. The Predator: Not even going to defend that garbage movie either, but the Upgrade did have to fight against highly trained and experienced soldiers. If anything, I'll admit that Prey is better then The Predator and thats not saying alot.
