One scene that stood out to me: The predator standing, invisible. A lowly ant climbs on his boot, takes no notice. A fat rat sits near him, takes no notice. Snake snatches the rat, still takes no notice. Snake, being a predator, senses a presence, drops rat and says I know you there, I can smell you. Predator takes notice because this animal noticed him and was ready to rumble. Of course snake loses, but I thought it perfectly showed how the Predator, first one this planet, worked his way up the food chain, and there were obviously other scenes where this was illustrated until he finally met the apex predator of Earth. I thought that was cool

If anyone doesn’t know the predator lore, that particular predator is a feral, prides itself on not wearing much armour, likes using hand to hand style combat, you can also tell by its face, and weapons, and fights with a wreckless yet extremely aggressive mind set, gathering scars an such are its trophies aswell, hence a feral predator. The “Super” predator in predators is actually called a beserker, it will kill other predators. The first predator movies used bloodborn assassins, which are the ones that survived the xenomoph trials on the pyramids. The ones that died at the pyramid, were Un blooded predators. There not aloud to use plasma caster or there shoulder cannon until they kill there first alien, with hand to hand tactics.

This is why I feel the final kill cheapens thfe whole movie. I don't even know lore beyond the movies. If it's so feral, prides hand to hand combat, and not wearing armor. Why did it use its homing arrow when it wasn't wearing its mask, on multiple occasions, knowing that it automatically goes to what ever the laser is pointing at, and had a slow ass reaction when it saw the mask aiming at it? Also because I don't know comic stuff, why did it even have the arrows? Plasma cannons were available during the time of the Aztecs (AVP) and were not homing/heat seeking.

I felt that every skill Naru obtained to eventually kill the Predator was brilliantly explained without ruining the pace of the movie to explain it to you. For explain, when Naru isn’t hunting the rabbits effectively, she created a rope to treats her axe like a tomahawk and save time getting it back when she throws. We didn’t need to see Naru hunting again after she created her weapon because that would ruin the pace of the movie, we just need to see how she problem solves in a way that let the viewer know she thinks outside the box. Her critical thinking skills and ability to think ahead also make it believable that she can kill the Predator. Throughout the movie Naru studies the Predator’s patterns and exploits his routine in order to defeat it. When Naru realizes the Predator jumps trees to get around, she puts spikes on them. When Naru sees the Predator’s is strong enough to decapitate someone, she puts her head in between rocks to literally save her head. Naru even realizes the the medicine she uses on other to cool their bodies makes her invisible to the Predator. It’s not that different from the original Predator movie when you think about it.

Plot armor made me realize she can beat the predator. I knew her and the dog wouldn't die. The Comanche native people were already great hunters and skilled people with weapons and horses. But they had to make them look weak so she could look strong. This is why characters were not developed in this movie.I agree that they took the ending from the first Predator and paid homage to it. Which was cool in my book but they should have focus more on the native people being more stronger than what they were portrayed. This movie should have been similar to a movie called the ghost and the darkness. Where the predator is treated as something that is terrorizing the village and environment. That way you could of use the native people more and shown their skills more. Having the French people their was really a waste. They served no purpose besides for slaughter points. But having her turn into a skilled fighter within a few days was a bit too far fetch. She didn't even have a scratch at the end of the movie.

@@theempireofjudah9315 I think that if you made the Predator like the Lions in “The Ghost and the Darkness” it would have gone against what we know about Predator culture. Keeping with what we about Predators in previous movies makes Prey genius because the Predator and Naru’s stories are parallel to each other. Both are trying to prove something, not just to themselves, but also to their respective tribes. For any of us that follow Predator Lore we know that they are accepted into what is equivalent to a tribe only if they hunt a worthy warrior. The bear fight shows how the Predator, even though he has strength and tech on his side, is out of his element. The bear actually overpowers the Predator and there is even a moment where the bear stands on top of the Predator with the green glowing blood running through its mouth. The only reason the Predator is able to kill the bear is because the bear turns its back and gets cocky. Naru exploits the Predator being out of its element by studying it. She learns it patterns, how it uses its weapon, and how to use her skills as a hunter and gatherer thanks to her Comanche Heritage to outsmart the Predator. It’s actually not such a far fetched idea that Naru could kill the Predator this way because that’s how Dutch did it in the original movie. When the Predator takes off all his weapons and fights Dutch, Dutch gets brutalized by the Predator. Only by outsmarting it does Dutch kill the Predator. Naru does the same thing, but in her own way. But the fact that they are both after same thing shows the theme of commonality even with rivals.

So, I’m gonna put this out there since I’m not seeing any comments relating to the end credit and how the predators got the pistol from Naru. Traditionally when being given a gift in most Native American culture, it’s customary to give something back in return if you can. So it’s my opinion when the Predator clan came down to retrieve their fallen hunters body they also came to honor Naru and give her something for her victory to honor her, she would feel compelled to give something to them (the pistol).
@MrJeffcoley1
@MrJeffcoley1 Жыл бұрын
FINALLY! Someone else who watched the end credits to figure out how Naru's pistol ended up on the Predator ship to be given to Danny Glover in Predator 2. I actually took it a little differently - the final drawing of Naru's adventure shows the ship and the music ends on a menacing note. Suggesting the Predator's companions came back and killed Naru and the rest of her tribe. Remember, one of her last lines is to tell her people they need to move to a more defensible position.

I agree with your interpretation of the ending credit tapestry. I did not care much for that ominous tone. I refuse to believe that the Yautja returned to kill off the Comanche tribe and Naru. The filmmakers should of added a post-credits scene showing the Yaujia honoring/rewarding Naru and retrieving the fallen Feral Predator. Then Naru would gift them with the flintlock pistol, having no use for it herself.

Exactly, if we remember how Pred 2 ends (despite it being a real goofy movie) they give him the pistol and bounce, with him more gobsmacked by what happened. Native culture is different, we aren’t supposed to just take a gift and do nothing in return, you trade as often as you can. She definitely didn’t have more powder so the pistol for her became more of a trophy, and giving it to them if they did to her what the clan did for Danny Glover would make sense culturally.
@DarthShande
@DarthShande Жыл бұрын
Also sorry but final nerd thought, what with Predator culture being as honor based as they can be except for really extenuating circumstances they would only attack the entire tribe if they viewed even the kids, elders, and pregnant women as a threat. And with Naru being depicted as more observant and clever she already picked up on how the Predator changed its mind about her when she got injured, and when she was unarmed vs how it behaves to potential trophies that could theoretically hurt it she would probably assume the others act the same. Side note, she also thought it was a spirit so when more come they’d probably act on the orders of the medicine man over her.

At least Someone has 🧠 more than What was shown and Hyped by Feminism 😁 It's All good, I have nothing against Woman, Hell I love respect women and always be supportive MAN of myself Still Fight against a YUTJA is IMPOSSIBLE for any man without proper suit or Armor To win a 1 vs 1 hand to hand combat or technical Humans needs at least Master Chief, Crysis games series suit, Superhero suits IRON MAN If you know and understand YUTJA you know this 1.They're Born and bread Hunters, all of their sub species and leashed animals they have are LITERALLY BLOOD HOUNDS They used to survive on very harsh environment Heck they're keeping visiting the 🌎 maybe they will invade or colonize after we're gone from this planet 2. From ancient times they bread worriers meaning every single Yutja on their Solar system is hunter although they're dedicated to other duties like building, technology, Maybe their own buildings and all that.. etc even the females are vicious Predators second to none 3. Code of honor is sign of respect and Worthy price of being a Blooded one those who broke it became Bad bloods like Super Predators 4. As seen in PREDATORS (2010) they also set excellent traps (HEY WE'RE TALKING ABOUT INTERGALACTIC TRAVELING SPICIES HERE) 5. They've shown Honor and respect towards Humans and co-assited some those who in need and gave proper respect for being on their side not as threat but as an equal or sidekick Raphael Adolini pistol Story Machiko Noguchi story AVP(2004) 6. Clearly a superior species in terms of every possible biology Anatomically Strong, Tougher Skin similar to reptiles (don't Brag Reptilian agenda we'll talk about it later if you want) Intelligent and already evolved more than Homo Superior where we see more superhuman strength, speed and things happed around The Real World And can see not just in Infrared, but in UV too 7. Only Useful well adopted Technologies, not so fancy ones like IRON MAN using all star glitter sparkling awesome things continues to evolve advance even in Genetic modifications And medical kit to patch up faster, better than human medication (except Hero gets no critical damage 😆 Plot Armor again) 8. Like to be the APEX SUPER PREDATOR where they continuesly Searching for Worthy Prey to be hunted down and continue keeping tabs on each of their discovered spicies to understand better They're the HUNTERS who KILLs XENOMORPHS (Canons or not they're rivalry is destined to happen and perfect match Most violent creature in the universe vs APEX PREDATORS ) 9. ONLY Weakness is BLEEDING most of the times because of their own weapons being used by the opponent which is ridiculous plot armor and never to see using it again and keeping it to themselves (If it bleeds we can kill it Yes indeed) 10. Portrayal as a Bad Guy always regardless of not to become another Slasher icon like Jason Voorhees, Michael or Freddy Yutja comes to complete a Quest at all costs not to be the bad guy And it doesn't know what even FEAR is which is shown by every single living creature ever made to Hollywood and movie imagination or known in this world And your best choice is to fight and stand up for this guy ? without proper equipment Body armor ? @@lalo80adams71 I'm seriously disappointed in humanity after seeing lots of commenters on the movie trailer hating on it so much (mainly incels & fragile male egomaniacs) & not able to digest a fact that a female protagonist is the one that kills the predator. Their mindset cant get them to understand that the main character understood the patterns of the predator like it only fights with anything that threatens it & not any bait or helpless ones. Second she understood that the predator can only see a living thing meaning producing body heat so she used the medicine to help her in the end & finaly the mask that predator uses as a weapon guider is used as by her in the quickmud to defeat it. How is Naru a Mary Sue, exactly? She was shown to be incompetent at hunting (the skills he wanted to be recognised for), or at least the concept her tribe has of "hunting", at the beginning of the movie. Thinking outside the box she used her other skills, like tracking and observing her target, to improve and learn about her enemy after each encounter, which gave her the knowledge needed to kill it. You can say she got a little lucky, but I don't see how this makes her a Mary Sue.

You missed one of my favorite Easter Eggs. In PREY, during the fight with the trappers the Predator at one point kills a trapper with his own ax and has another one pinned against a tree. The trapper pulls a knife, the Predator looks at it and pulls out his combo Shield/Spin cutter and cuts off the guy's head and the tree too. He looks at the decapitated body and tree and does this comic little head tilt and then grunts. The predator in Aliens Vs Predator AVP does this very same head tilt and grunt when the girl (Lex) has to shoot her friend (the archeologist) just seconds before a baby Alien pops out his body. The Predator gives her a look, he stays behind and catches the baby Alien as it leaps from the guy's body and snaps its neck. He then gives it that same comic little head tilt and grunt and then drops the dead baby Alien.

Predator in Prey was a Youngblood, an unproven Hunter and its theorized that it "jumped" off the ship during a observation sweep... Here, I'll explain. When a Youngblood has proven themselves worthy of becoming a Hunter, the Hunt is arranged by the Elders. The Youngblood is given proper weapons, armor and equipment to complete their first big hunt and claim a worth while Trophy that will earn them the title of a Hunter. They are also given an objective. Meaning they already know what on the Planet is the deadliest creature and they are sent out to find it. The Youngblood in Prey had NONE of these preparations. All weapons, gear and even the camo at the time of use was already considered outdated by Yautja standards (spears instead of plasma, NO armor, homemade helmet and the camouflage used honeycomb patterns to "bend" light, which the Yautja considered ineffective because its too easy to see). Also, this Youngblood had NO target. It knew the planet had deadly creatures on it, but didn't know which was the deadliest (snake, coyote, bear, ect), so it just hunted everything hoping to eventually prove itself. See, in the Yautja tribes, one must earn the title of Hunter by a given task by the elders, but if a Youngblood feels they deserve a chance, but are not given one, they can break the rules and go off on a hunt of their own. If they fail, they will by trialed by the Elders and inevitably put to death for insubordination. But if they succeed, it is up to the Elders to decide if the Hunt was worthy of the rule break and make them a Hunter anyways. Its basically Yautja politics, but they all revolve around proving ones self as the greatest Hunter, even if it means going against the tribe leaders, breaking rules, or even cheating (which many believe the use to advanced technology and cloaking camouflage is definitely cheating). This is of coarse all speculation from Predator lore, comics and research, because Yautja tribes all work independently and some with different rules, looks, personality and use of gear. Its also been stated that Earth has been visited by several different tribes of Yautja, because human are very well known throughout all Yautja tribes as being the most formidable Prey. Most of the writing for these movies are meant to keep a lot of questions unanswered and keep the Yautjas a mystery. All you can do it take what they give you and go digging for answers in lore and other online theories.

It is not a wolf, it is a coyote. First, wolves very rarely hunt alone, they are a pack animal and hunt in packs. Coyotes hunt alone and tend to be more solitary. Second, rabbits are on the coyote menu, usually not a wolf as it’s too small to waste its energy on. Thirdly, you completely miss the scene paying homage to Bugs Bunny and Willy E. Coyote.

The movie producers apparently is familiar with ancient Asian martial art weapons such as the rope dart or rope dagger which Naru's rope axe is a variation of the same theme. The combat sequence in the film is very well thought out and filmed. I usually don't holdout much for sequels, but of the Predator franchise, this one ties with the original in how smart the fights are laid out.

I always preferred the comic story of the pistol where Grayback the Elder from Predator 2 was hunting in the Caribbean where he runs into Pirate Captain Rapheal Adolini who the Predator takes great interest in for his next hunt until Rapheal's crew mutinies for not attacking a church Rapheal ordered to be left unharmed, which lead to Rapheal escaping to an island with the rest of the pirates in pursuit whereupon Grayback joins forces with Rapheal so he could duel he later so only he could kill Rapheal, they later battle the pirate crew killing all of them until a lone sniper at the end claims Rapheal's life which upsets Grayback greatly, in the end Grayback exchanges trinkets with Rapheal's corpse and gives him honorable farewell as Grayback returns to space. One of the reasons I like this story for the pistol is makes more sense for Grayback to give the pistol to Danny Glover's character as he sees the same challenge in him as he did Rapheal and thereby honored him with the weapon of that great warrior whereas in Prey we don't get that same connection as we don't know how it comes to Grayback's possession. Like don't get me wrong I love Prey I would just change it just a little so that we can keep the pistol's original origin story everything else can stay the same but if I have to lose Pirate Captain Rapheal Adolini to get Prey though I'm willing to make that trade.

Having watched it again i also noticed that Raphael Adolini fired the pistil at the predator in the burnt woodland scene. The predator threw that blade at him and that's how he lost his leg. Then he gets help from Naru and gives her the pistil, very well done.

got a question, why didn't the predator decloak when its in the water? does it have more advanced cloaking device than in 1987?
@alessandrofedericogobber5634
@alessandrofedericogobber5634 Жыл бұрын
I would say the reason is because the wrist gauntlet (the device that controls the cloaking technology) was submerged in water in the original movie, likely causing it to short circuit; meanwhile, this Predator did not dive into a lake or get heavily wet higher than his lower torso. It's also possible that the cloaking technology received an upgrade over the centuries (eliminating the more noticeable orange glow for a more steathly blue), but to achieve it they used a device more susceptible to water.

The Comanche's props and set were exceedingly new & un-used. It wasn't as obvious for the French props and set, strangely. It felt deeply anachronistic watching them re-create what they saw imaginary settlement's living conditions. Naru was protected by heavy plot armor in all of her violent scenes, which is to be expected in a sci-fi movie. It still was a very enjoyable film!

RE: the mountain lion fight -- as she is falling, you can see that she does, in fact, throw her spear and it strikes the mountain lion in the side. Taabe confirms this later in the film when he tells her that her plan worked and that she had weakened the lion so he could kill it when he got to it. It really is a 'blink and you miss it' moment though. I wish the scene had been even one second longer so you could see more clearly that she did, in fact, hit the lion.

I have an easter egg EVERYONE MISSED (maybe not everyone) please like my comment. Ok so in Prey, Naru & Taabe & the other natives in their group use trees to attack their prey sometimes. Naru also uses the tree in the ending to hurt the predator. So we all know that after a predator is killed its species adapts to get better (somehow the knowledge of how one died is sent to the others). In the 1st Predator Movie when Arnold & his team are wondering whats killing them & how. Arnold takes a short pause & says “the trees”. They know that the predator has been hunting & stalking them in the trees. Which tells me that after the predator died in Prey, its species realized how to use the trees like the natives to kill their prey. I watch movies all day so im good at finding this stuff lmk if you agree!
