"I called him after the match" lol it's awesome to see those guys, as superhuman they can be, are still down to earth and are probably very friendly. Cool video explaining an important point! I wonder if the second shot in the tenth would have left a flat ten if it were closer to the pocket ... But better to be lucky haha

So many different things we can do to get that 10 out. Easy solution is switching equipment. Difficult part is moving, adjusting speed, and changing hand position. But that's what makes these guys so darn good!

I throw a 12 lbs plastic 20 mph and have a near perfect record on 10 pins I also use the same ball for 3-10 split . I wont use it for the 2-8 split. I change over to my weak resin 14lbs. I got a respectable average around 190 in my league

I loved watching that match, it seemed like he made a decision to take light hits that had a better chance to get mixer pin action instead of trying to split the 8-9 which would be a much harder move to find

This is true information of the utmost it took me a minute to figure this out watching where my ball comes out at the end of the lane between the 8:00 and 9:00 the 8th and the nine pin thanks again Ron, another great video. Another great explanation. Peace. I'm out of here. What are you😊

About 30 years ago, I met an old man who told me that "good bowlers walk down the lane and roll the ball. The rest run down the lane and throw the ball." That was some pretty good advice. Now that I'm an old man, I can pass it on to the youngsters. lol

One of the best bowling videos I've ever watched ... and as a 75 year old who's been a passionate bowler since I was 10 (including partnering a SASBA doubles tournament with Simo ...( he averaged 250 ... at age 16 ... I didn't 🥺)) Ive watched 1,000's! 🎳

Ron. Thanks for explaining even a little bit of what goes through these guys minds as they perform. EJ explained it best when he said "Simo doing Simo things" Anthony "Swiss Army Knife" nickname is definitely fitting to how versatile he is on the lanes.

Can you go into more detail of "puts his hand in a better position" after he moved into the oil? Is this adjustment specific to the ball he's using since its a stronger asymmetric piece? I've found tournament style adjustments for this are so dang tricky.
@VVenDiesel3008 ай бұрын
I saw more axis rotation…Which makes sense coz it makes the ball retains more energy and creates more angle of entry to the pocket.

I was told that if you're leaving 10 pins, its always a light hit! So my adjustment was to move my feet forward at least 6", of course only if I'm leaving them too much, more than once in a row! There's always fluke hits, bad pin spots, etcetera! But in a 1 on 1 match, you can only go twice before adjusting, in a league you're talking 3 games, lots more time to make an adjustment!

the main adjustment that he made was that he played to come in half pocket or light. when I'm sticking 10 pins that's what I try to do. the half pocket mixer has the best carry
@mwatkins05908 ай бұрын
I like the idea of this video, but i dont actually see an explanation of the adjustment that helped him finally get it. earlier you say he goes through the oil more, to preserve more energy for the pins, but he still doesn't get it. And your explanation of him finally getting it is that "he gets his hand on the ball better and makes a better shot". What does that actually mean? I have a hard time taking away useful information from that. Every time I throw the ball, I try to put my hand on it in the best possible way, and i try to throw the best shot possible. Do you mean he threw it so that it goes outside more and covers more boards? inside more and is tighter? etc.
@treeman26608 ай бұрын
Iv bowled for years left and right handed. I got about 20 bowling balls. Im right handed. I take out the 10 pin right handed almost 100% of the time. Its because I throw a 12 lbs plastic ball about 20 mph. I never change spots because the ball just dont turn at that speed. Left lane has less traffic so when I bowl left I have a slightly better luck on the strike but when Im hitting 7s I suck. Maybe 2 out of 10.

So your saying get it more in the oil so that on the back end it will snap harder is that correct
@Ctdbowling8 ай бұрын
Get in the oil so the ball doesn't burn up. You also have to create more axis rotation and slower speed to ensure the ball continues. It's tricky right? That's why it's so impressive!
@dennisbrinkley86138 ай бұрын
For the ball to hook it needs friction to slow down. Ball energy is important. If the ball slows down too much there will be insufficient energy for the ball to flare and to dynamically impact the pin deck.
@joehoenig75968 ай бұрын
Ron? With all due respect, all you pointed out is that Simo needed to make an adjustment. What would have been helpful, is to share exactly what adjustment he actually made, that allowed him to strike with the GEM, as well as with whatever the shinier ball was, on the fill ball. Did Simo share that information with you? Making a "really good shot" doesn't explain what we would like to know. Thank you.
@brandonhuggins17368 ай бұрын
What exactly was the change? As a lefty I leave flat 7s all the damn time and I’m like, what should I change? I think our house shot is kegel titanium. I’m in the pocket and lined up because moving one way or the other totally Fs up the shot. I hate when I’m lined up to shoot corner spares all night.
@Ctdbowling8 ай бұрын
In this case more axis rotation and get into more oil with slower speed.

Looked like Simo just got lucky in the 10th by hitting lighter and getting the mix. If he got more of the pocket, it would've been another flat 10. Seemed like he knew that changing balls was the correct move but he didn't want to risk another 2-10 combo. So he stuck with the worse ball and crossed his fingers, knowing he could at least hit the pocket consistently.

Play with string pins is the answer. When the 6 pin rings around the 10 the string takes it out!

So he stayed in the oil, and changed his hand position. I’m a real amateur because that told me nothing. lol. To what did he change his hand position to, why did he choose that specific hand position?
@VVenDiesel3008 ай бұрын
Simo put more axis rotation meaning he got his hand more around the ball. Side rotation makes the ball skid easier and retain more energy therefore creating more angle of entry to the pocket. Hope this helps.

@waynetinnin20968 ай бұрын
A one and one move right may not be the best strategy there bro. Why move towards the friction when your ball is already losing energy? There are many factors in play like ball motion , surface and even your tilt, you may consider a zonal move left, like two and one to keep the ball in the oil longer creating more energy while still seeing friction later down lane. A move right only sees friction sooner causing the ball to slow down quicker and changing direction sooner. May turn a weak ten into a big 4 on a typical house shot that is.
@jamesbills59988 ай бұрын
@waynetinnin2096 Maybe the ball wasn't losing energy due to friction. Maybe he tossed It a bit faster. All kinds of things can be happening at once.
