I was raised in a pretty middle of the political spectrum mid western family. We all moved to Texas in the 70's when the economy in the midwest went to hell. My brother and his family have lived in College Station tx for 50 years. His family has become very evangelical and very pro Trump. (As an economics professor, he has remained fiscally conservative, but balks at Trump republicanism. I have a super conservative Dallas sister and a super liberal Fort Worth sister. I"m a left leaning centrist, or try to be. I'm certainly a social liberal if nothing else. We can't even get together as a family anymore. My sisters haven't spoken to each other in 10 years. A visit to my brother's family includes Fox News 24/7 on the tv. We were all raised in the same family by the same parents. My dad worshipped JFK although he leaned pretty racist and classist economically. My mom was a liberal high school English teacher. We used to enjoy each others company. Now, if I talk to one sister the gets angry. I can't even mention the other one's name in their presence. My own experience in Texas is that it didn't used to be this way. When I moved here we had a Democrat governor. In the 90's we had a Democrat female governor. Today we have one of the most conservative Republican governors in the country. I don't understand what's happened. I don't think we are witnessing the end of truth. I think we are witnessing the end of trust, which is even worse.

Then when I found out Goldman Sachs was his #1 campaign contributor ,I was pissed. From there I began having fellow politically involved individuals in progressive politics begin bragging to me about putting the ballots of know conservatives in the "round file" on election day (they threw then in the trash). Then the Clinton machine got to work (yes Obama and Biden are both controlled by the Clinton's) When I was told back in 2012 by a friend who was high up in the power structure that " the Era of conservatives is over. We will cause such a large divide in America that people will simply refuse to associate with those from the opposing side. Once isolated we're going to make it so unpopular to be associated with the other side that we will effectively destroy conservative politics in America it'll be widely known as a school of thought that only racists and tin foil hat extremists subscribe to. It's a New Year and the dawning of the new Era of progressive control..." that was only days into 2012. When the Trayvon Martin thing happened a month or so later I received a text saying "Pay attention to what we do with this, this is what I was talking about...." since then I've seen so much racist rhetoric and divisive hate speech disguised as anti racist division come from the party its disgusting. However I will admit that it has caused even the most conservative to consider racist sentiments completely unpalatable. So I rationalized and made excuses. But now we've gone too far. I've since washed my hands of the party and when Clinton v Trump election occurred I saw it for what it was, an insult to my intelligence. I refused to vote for either of those notorious liars and have stepped away from politics entirely. Both parties are the same and they actually work together more than you understand. To all those just calling this "propaganda", are you not able to verify and check things for yourself? If something is presented here as fact, aren't you able to confirm it's validity for yourself? You have the internet, right? It's called journalism. Vice presents a narrative like any news or media organisation. Of course they do it in such a way that it's meant to invoke a certain emotional response, with editing and stylistic choices making it clear where the author's politics sit, but the actual information presented is what is important. That's what journalism is. You see a piece and you're meant to scrutinise it. You see the information presented and then you are able to either validate or dismiss it based on what you know, where the information comes from and it's veracity. You can decide for yourself. The very basics of critical thinking. Many Americans struggle with that one right now and as a result they're being pushed into the fringe with conspiratorial thinking and blind scepticism towards all things authority and even science. That's why there are so many of them on the ideological Right side of the isle; from the My Pillow guy to the infantile orange manbaby called Trump. So Vice doing this piece could be seen as propaganda. But it's really not. It's actually a few different pieces that have been released over time, complete with an interview with an ex-pundit and journalist from Fox; arguably the most partisan and biased network in the country. You see it as propaganda because information they've presented is at odds with what you believe. Essentially your worldview has been challenged and you're indignant because it can be quite confrontational to try to accept that you've been manipulated by your echo chambers into believing things that might not be true. I find it disappointing that Vice is leaning into using tense music and graphics to up the entertainment value of their reports. They have always reported on fringe stories with an effort to tell the factual story but as of late I find them leaning into a more emotionally divisive style.

I noticed after graduating high school that all of the history we are taught in school isn't about "not repeating the past", it's about inspiring revolution and harping over war... we talk about every war but glance over golden ages and technology, like the only tech we were taught about seemed to be during the Steam Revolution, after that its 2 world wars and a bunch more minor american wars and thats history, after of course the civil and revolutionary wars... war is not history, history is life, people have been writing their stories since the days of jesus and earlier, why not teach about what its like to be a person in society and not what it was like to be royality....

When I was at school in the UK history was taught in the way you described, we didn't study war directly. Topics included British political history 1700-1900, Civil Rights in the USA 1863-1980 and Weimar to Nazi Germany 1918-1933.

I get a lot of their points, but I do struggle with the idea that we shouldn't necessarily claim there are objective truths. Climate change. Racism. Necessity of equal medical care. Poverty in the US. And so on. All of these things are objective truths that are in need of real and thoughtful solutions from our governmental representatives.
