This is absolutely wrong information. If a company pays X units of shares to a person as a partial or full income, the shares allotted to the individual are taxed. So the person will be awarded (X - tax as per applicable slab) units of shares as an income.Shares, partial or full, are an income/salary. You are not "buying" shares. You are "earning" shares. In the video, then you say that they take a loan from the bank- that will attract interest and you have to pay back the loan. But your income is only in shares so you have to sell shares every month or quarter or whatever, based on your payback arrangement with the bank, and pay capital gain tax on the shares sold. So in total, you are paying income tax on shares earned, interest to bank on loan taken, and capital gain tax on capital gains, if any. The real reason why rich people prefer shares is because: 1. Long term investment. They take smaller salary on paper today in forms of share and pay smaller taxes today. Later, they pay lesser taxes on gains because of flat rates. 2. On-paper net-worth. Net-worth is calculated on share/asset value pre-tax. If a person is concerned about their net-worth, they would save this money for the future. 3. Retirement fund. If you sell pre-taxed share after retirement with no source of hefty income, you pay less taxes. All in all, it is about paying LESS TAXES and not NO TAXES. While the intent of this video was not so, it was misleading.

A common misconception here The persons referred here are from countries other than India In India even ESOPs are taxable Difference between the price collected by company and fair Market value on date of allotment is considered as salary in nature of perquisite and taxed as if the difference was salary. Income includes consideration received in kind also in India. And Indian banks are very hesitant to give loan unless u have a high income shown in your ITR and a consistent repayment history. So please don't show half truth.

@shivamgoyal130 Жыл бұрын
Sir but as per section 17(2)(vi) of Income tax act, if you take shares of a company at inadequate consideration or without any consideration than such benefit in monetary terms is taxable as salary only and tax has to be paid on such amount of fair value of shares net of any payment made in the year in which such share certificate is received or credited to demat account of employee. Further if shares are received for inadequate/no consideration other than in a capacity of employee, than too it would taxable under section 56(2)(x) of income tax act. So escaping tax liability through shares is not possible. 😊😊
