Our first several visits to Croatia we were stunned to see kids playing by themselves, no adults in sight. VERY different from Canada. The mentality is worlds apart. As a woman I always feel safe walking at night or any time in the countryside or in towns in Croatia. I've visited many countries in Europe and unequivocally feel safest here (though there are other safe countries). I once forgot my purse on a konoba table and had staff return it to me. My biggest complaint is smoking. Ugh.

I imagine that many years ago Canada was like this but things changed for the worst in these English countries. My fondest memories were when i went to go see my family in the balkans. all family together playing outside. Non of that in the UK no more

@Dusan.Grujic Yes, you're right. My mom says the 1950s were safe and free in Canada. Sure, she was a kid then, but we all reflect on previous times. Family times in the Balkans must have been the best! Retrospectively eye opening, too. People here know how to care for, respect and celebrate family!

The smoking is pretty bad, no escape from it, otherwise it's so beautiful there.

@@zannawu5749 I know smoking is bad for ones health., but i have to say- westerners will gloss over so many scarry and terrible things and put smoking as the gratest sin that one can commit. I heard this many times, and it just makes me want to smoke harder :)

totally agree with your talk by the Sea today. Look forward to spending our summers visiting the whole of Croatia. Spent 5 weeks this past summer in Pula, Vir, Zadar and Zagreb. My wife and I were there to visit my daughters boyfriends family( getting serious enough to meet them). I was amazed how safe we felt walking most everywhere no matter the hour. Didn't matter if we were on the Island of Vir or downtown Zagreb. Look forward to visiting the Slavonia region of Croatia this coming summer. Love your prospective on the differences between UK/USA and Croatia. Understanding that the differences are just that, differences and neither are better.
