I can't blame Todd Gurley for the TD. The defense still had a chance to preserve their new lead and they failed. Also, notice how the Lions #25 wraps up, then releases Gurley. I bet Gurley wasn't expecting that in the heat of the moment, where one second he's meeting resistance, then suddenly it's gone. Edit- With all these responses, a better way for me to say this should of been "I can't blame Todd Gurley for the loss." He knew what the situation called for and was clearly trying to stop short of the goal line. But he couldn't control his forward momentum from suddenly being released from the Lions #25 grasp.

That was brilliant on #25's part. Had he simply stepped aside it would have reinforced for Gurley that the Lions wanted him to score and he would have went down earlier. But by wrapping him up for that split-second I think it triggered Gurley's natural reaction to push for yards and that's what got him too close to to the end zone to stop in time.

Like somebody pointed out on the NFL highlights video for this game: This is much more about Stafford's ability to lead a game-winning 80 yard drive in 5 complete passes with 60 seconds and no timeouts than it is about Gurley accidentally scoring a touchdown. The Lions were winning 16-14, and with possession of the ball and just a minute and a half left, the Falcons planned on running out the clock and winning due to a last second field goal. The player fell just before the endzone because he did not want to score, so as to run the time. When he fell, part of his body landed in the endzone, resulting in a touchdown. The Falcons scored the extra point, setting the score to 21-16. The Lions then used the remaining time to make their way up the field and score, winning the game.

Youd think from this video that Todd Gurley was the main reason for losing at the end, when in fact hes about 30% the reason at most: The defense giving up a TOUCHDOWN, with NO timeouts for the Lions , and only a drop over a minute to go the length of the field to get that TD, now THAT is the main reason they lost! (And note that in SB46, Tom.Brady didnt have enuff time and a realistic shot either to get down the field for a TD)

its strategy, a touchdown is 6 points and 8 including the 2 point conversion after. the score was 14 atlanta and 16 lions. after the touchdown, it was 22 atlanta and 16 lions. they left the lions just over a minute to score another touchdown to win the game which i think they did. what atlanta shouldve done was waste the clock down to about 3-5 seconds then kicked the field goal which amounts to 3 points. having the score 17 atlanta and 16 lions
