How I Feel About TV Shows Ending

It seems like many beloved shows are going to be ending within the next few years, so what better time to talk about my stance on hearing that a show is ending.

Great video. I remember that 2007-2009 period where the majority of my favorite childhood shows ended, and it was really sad for me at the time. Nowadays, I just kinda accept that shows end and I have major respect for creators who voluntarily decide to end their shows for creative reasons.

Plus they waited till Season 2 was just about to air before telling the team, so they couldnt even alter Season 2 to act as a Series Finale and now it just feels like a set up for a Season 3 that will never come and they refuse to elaborate on the plot points they set up for later.

I 100% agree with you. I always see people getting upset over shows ending, but I always just think "Yeah, it had 3-6 seasons, I don't really expect it to last any longer." I always found it weird that we would constantly beg for SpongeBob or Fairly OddParents to be cancelled, but we get so upset when other shows end. P.S. I do LIKE things, and I LIKE this video.

I think shows ending make people sad and scared because there's always a huge chance for people to make more teen titan go's and other such reboots/terrible ideas coming out.

Unfortunately, Wander Over Yonder was one of those shows that got cut off unfairly. The crew had a whole third season played to finish up the show and wrap up everyone's story, but Disney told them the show had been canceled just as season 2 was wrapping up, so they couldn't even change things. Not to mention the crew was really excited about this third season and knew it'd be even better than the last two, so not getting it was like a show like ATLA not getting its third season - hence why the WoY fandom is doing things like signing petitions and sending letters, not just because we want more episodes, but because we want to see how the show was intended to end.

it always sucks when a show you like ends. I mean if it was a planned ending or if not just ends on a high note like Gravity Falls and Avatar, then I'm cool with it. But with shows that got unjustly cancelled like Teen Titans, Young Justice, and Wander Over Yonder then it's more upsetting. It's really rare that shows get brought back as a revival, which is why we need to support the Samurai Jack reboot on Adult Swim as much as possible

I'm disappointed when a good show ends so suddenly, but I usually say "Well, it was a good adventure!" and move on, like Gravity Falls. However, if a shows ends because of reasons like "merchandise isn't selling" or "not popular enough", it leaves me a little more miffed. I don't know what Wander Over Yonder's reasoning was, but nobody was ready for it to end, and of course it ended on a cliffhanger. Some things were left unanswered, and it's indicated that there were other stories they wanted to tell that they can't do now. Another series, Randy Cunningham, falls into the "not popular enough" category, which still astounds me. It's an action series with a two male main characters AND had Jhonen Vasquez designs, that's supposed to be insanely easy to market! Plus, it was a suprisingly fun series that really picked up during season two, but ended on a cliffhanger as well. And with far more loose ends to boot and really it didn't satisfy the fans it has.

Randy Cunningham's ending was fucking awful and clearly they had to rush it because it got canned. That series was amazing and I wish they would have done more with it.

I enjoyed most of it; the fight with Evil Julian was something I'd been looking forward to, and it didn't dissapoint me, at least. But there are a few things that tells you it was definitely rushed; for one, we didn't get many overarching plot episodes until the last four, so tbey probably had more ideas involving the powerballs, but they didn't get the chance to do any of it and had to cram everything involving to those last four episodes. The pattern was filler, filler, filler, hey a plot point!, filler, etc. Then, they get the memo about cancellation, so they had to adjust and go "PLOT POINTS, PLOT POINTS NOW!" And the Sorcerer's contribution to the last episode; THAT was a clear sign of "Aw crap, we're not gonna get to this like we wanted....might as well squeeze it in here to have some satisfaction on his part..." I appreciate that they wanted to give us some closure on certain things like Julian/Evil Julian and the Sorcerer. It's a shame they weren't able to do more, but at least we got what we did. ...but still, screw you jerk executives that canned this show! It was awesome!

Like the "Oh yeah, I'm moving next store" was a predictable copout which was horribly written. And the plot points point is right. I don't mind it being episodic but they introduced a plotpoint in like episode 10 and I expected them to finish it promptly instead of waiting half a season because they were rushing their ideas out the door.

Poor guys, they clearly loved the show, and their fans (heck, they did a whole episode around the tune a fan made for the show!), so I'm sure they were just as disappointed as us that they couldn't do everything they wanted. And yes, moving next door was pretty copout. I knew something had to happen that he would stay, but that seemed pretty silly. Actually, the original description of the episode was that Randy fights Evil Julian in order to make the town safer to live in so they WOULDN'T move, but that's not what was going on in show. I LIKE that it's not a selfish reason he's fighting, but the whole moving plot seems pointless then. Episodic shows are perfectly fine, I loved Wander and old Spongebob, but the issue with putting a seasonal arc in shows like that is that it leaves me on the edge of my seat for the next plot point. Shows like Steven Universe and Wander manage to pull it off by at least mentioning the plot in fillers, whereas Randy Cunningham never mentioned the powerballs OR Evil Julian outside of episodes that didn't involve them (I THINK, most of the fillers are blurry to me). Not to say I didn't enjoy the season, I did, but these problems stand out to the stickler for detail folks like me.

Agreed wholeheartedly. It upsets me how some people say mean things about Alex Hirsch or C.H. Greenblatt for ruining their shows by ending it. It's *their* show, it's *their* story, they know the best time to end it. It's like these people want every cartoon to be like SpongeBob and The Fairly OddParents.

I agree with everything you say in the video, but sometimes the rushed ending completely mar my views of a show. Nickelodeon's unforgivable mishandling of Legend of Korra during its last stretch made cancellation inevitable, and the show was forced to wrap up multiple plotlines at the end of a season that had nothing to do with most of them. I think that show deserved one more season to give all of the characters a more dignified send-off. I know that most people like the finale, but I found it rushed and uninspired for the most part

Now with the Internet, it doesn't have to be the end! As long as SOPA doesn't happen, fan comics/fan fiction can and will exist of these characters- some of it being really good. There's even roleplay blogs/ask blogs for characters from cartoons and you can see them crossover with other shows you like or interact with other characters from the show! It's not "official", but it'll be enough to keep you busy until they ruin the show with a spinoff or reboot.

At least these shows are ENDING, contrarily to a lot of great actions shows from the early 2010 that got outright canceled before they could have any kind of real ending (looking at you Sym Bionic Titan, Tron Uprising, Avengers: EMH, etc.) I have nothing against shows ending on their own terms, hell, most of the best shows out there did. But getting canceled and being left with a "what could have happened??" feeling feels pretty bad.

I'm not so upset by shows ending, but what does concern me is that there doesn't seem to be anything really great to replace them after they're gone (Case in point- When Wander and Gravity Falls ended, all Disney XD really had left was Star VS, which... has started to go downhill lately. With Regular Show, Gumball, and Uncle Grandpa ending, all we really have left in terms of great shows is Steven Universe and We Bare Bears, with a couple other shows that aren't THAT great, and future programing that looks unappealing and baron... That's mainly what I'm worried about.)

I can really fell you there, I remember when I was very young, I watched Dexter's Laboratory, Ed Edd and Eddy, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and Foster's home for imaginary friends, and when those ended we got some good shows like chowder and flapjack and then after that we mostly got our modern lineup but know I really don't see CN replacing those shows with any better ones. I see that CN is banking on quantity but not quality of their shows for money. -I haven't Watched We Bare Bears yet-

I remember when Futurama finally ended with its tenth season, a lot of people were wishing it to go on longer like the Simpsons. I honestly think it ended at the right time. The episodes aired Comedy Central were still pretty good, but I remember a lot of them being of the edge of almost being bad. So I honestly it ended at the perfect time to end with a pretty good run.

3:06 Actually, funny you should mention that. Bryan & Mike (the creators of Avatar) wanted to make a 90-minute Avatar TV movie called "Avatar: The Search" where Zuko would search for his mother. Nick unfortunately rejected it (at least we got Legend of Korra though). Though yes, it was covered in comics what happened, seeing it, or any other comic stories from Avatar be TV movies would be great! Remember how you talked in a few videos before about Nick reviving some of their old shows like Hey Arnold!, Rocko's Modern Life and Legends of the Hidden Temple as TV movies? Well, maybe we'll see something like that out of Avatar. Maybe we'll finally get to see "Avatar: The Search" or maybe other adaptations of the comic stories into TV movies. Thoughts on that, Pieguy?

I pretty much agree with everything you said, but i just can't stop myself from being really sad when a show i love ends. with gravity falls i loved the fact that it just told its story and brought it to an amazing conclusion, but i still cried my heart out at the finale and for some time after that i felt like there was this huge hole inside of me. >< i just get really attached to some shows, but that doesn't mean i want them to come back! if they had a good run im ok with them ending, even if it takes some time to get over it.

I don't watch gumball or uncle grandpa so I don't really care that they're ending but I will definitely miss Regular Show. I stopped watching after the movie came out so I have an entire season I need to watch to catch up before the final season :/ . The 2010s are basically over. Only show left after is Adventure Time and I don't watch that show but at the same time it will feel weird when that show ends. I feel like Wander Over Yonder is a good example of a show that didn't even really get a chance because the ending felt kinda unfinished because the executives decided "Oh well. 2 seasons is enough." and I know Gravity Falls also only had 2 but at least with Gravity Falls they gave it a proper way to end the show. Wander Over Yonder could have had at least another season or two to give it more time for a better ending and actually give better closure for it. Good example of mistreatment from the network.

I'm late to the party, but I agree with so much of what you said here. It'll always be sad when a show I've grown to love ends - a la Phineas & Ferb - but after watching Family Guy, SpongeBob, Fairly OddParents, Simpsons all go down in the gutters for as long and as hard as they have, I'll always be more grateful when a show ends while still good. That's almost impossible to do in this age, bc a show will either be cancelled too early or be allowed to linger for far too long.

Dude, it's so great to hear someone say this. This is my exact mentality and one that I unfortunately don't see many sharing. I think if it's a show with a set story with arcs planned ahead (like Gravity Falls and Avatar), it is always best for them to properly conclude rather then getting stretched past the creator's original vision and being forced into territories that it wasn't meant to be in. For episodic shows, they should quit while they're ahead so they won't have to be sucked into the abyss of Spongebob and Fairly OddParents.

Regular Show was one of the first cartoons me and my sister really bonded over, and while it's sad to see it end, I honestly don't mind. It's like you said about UG, it had a good run, and I'd rather have it go out with my memory of it in tact then watch it be beat into the ground. Nothing could or should last forever, and that's okay. =)

I'm still sad that the muppets ended. The show was going so well towards the end. I feel like not enough people gave it a chance. Some people probably saw the first few episodes and was like "oh this isn't like the original?!? Well screw that I ain't watching it" and then never went back to it. And it sucks because it did get really good towards the end and I would've loved to see what else they could've done to improve the show. I agree with basically everything you said in this video. For shows like Gumball, I would much prefer it to end good then to go on for years and slowly turn terrible. Like the saying goes "ether you die the hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain" But what happened to the muppets was sad. It really didn't get the chance it needed.

Wander Over Yonder being cancelled sucked so much. That was so unfair, it was getting so good until they canceled it. At least with shows like Gravity Falls the creator wanted the show to end in season 2, at least the people at Disney didn't want to end it, heck I even heard that some people from Disney wanted Alex to continue Gravity Falls but he was the one who wanted to end it. Which, hey I can respect that as not only a fan but a wannabe writer as well. XD.

Sorry for the late reply but this seemed like an interesting thought in my opinion. I'll have to admit that I have the same feelings as you when I was little that when a show was cancelled, I was a bit upset about it but as the time passed. I've grown to realize that I'm kind of okay with it if it got cancelled. But yeah, I think this will be different in Anime perspective tbh. What are your thoughts on the Animes that only get One season but there are still some contents in the Light Novel/Manga that hasn't been animated yet Mr. Pieguyrulz? I know you didn't watch anime that much but I like to see some perspective from you Mr. Pieguyrulz

I'm fine with Regular Show and Gumball ending. Although they're still nowhere near bad, I do think they're beginning to show their age a little. Same goes for Adventure Time. I'd much rather see these shows end than turn into CN's cash cows akin to SpongeBob and The Fairly OddParents. I just hope they get proper finales instead of just being cancelled.

There are three Characters. Thomas the Goat Intern-They made him a Russian Spy for no reason. Yes that would have been cool. But they didn't set it up at all. The writers admitted they didn't have anything set up for him. So they kludged it together sloppily to avoid having a Static character, had they set it up ahead of time it would have worked. But they didn't so I can't accept that. The guys night episode also didn't help matters CJ-they turned her from a awesome foil to Mordecai to a Jealous girlfriend whose current boyfriend's ex trying to get back with Mordecai. Margaret-WHAT WAS THE POINT OF BRINGING HER BACK!?!? Life is about moving forward. She should have been like just a friend to Mordecai who went for her dream job and Mordecai helps her get there. There are others and I could go on but KZbin can be weird sometimes and chop off comments so I will leave it here

I know they could have written her off and been done with it. Not tried to become Degrassi with the love triangles and shit. There were so many wasted opportunities with both Thomas and CJ it kind of killed Regular Show for me. And Sad Sax is a horrible character but I think they made him that way. Don't get me started on the movie. That REALLY CEMENTED MY HATRED FOR THE SHOW. Rigby ruined Mordecai's life by keeping him from his dream school because he never finished school at all. But the movie treated that thing like saying sorry was the thing that could fix everything. I honestly feel no sadness that these shows (including Adventure Time) are coming to a end simply because I've never really had a connection with the characters and the wacky situations they were involved in. These days, I'm more for shows that don't overdo on the comedy and focus more on telling a story that will effect the viewers emotionally. Besides that, I really for a batch of new shows to come in and take their places and here's hoping that Summer Camp Island will exceed my expectations. So far, it looks really good from what I've saw.

My stance is that a show should only end when it wants. It really is up to that show when it ends. The only exceptions are Fairly Oddparents because it's suffering from creative stagnation and relying on desperate measures to stay alive and Family Guy because it screws up real-world topics and spits on people. Others like Spongebob Squarepants, South Park, and The Simpsons however, they can go on as they please.

A show that I feel ended too early is Class Of 3000. I know why it ended when it did, but the show only made two seasons when they planned to have at least four. They also never really had a proper show end, and once production stopped they pulled the show from the air all together. Needless to say the community behind the show, what little there is, really wants the show to come back, since it was only around for a year or two and not many remember it. This is my favorite example of a show that wasn't given a fair chance. Could I ask for your thoughts, Pieguy?

Your right,I was sad when I heard Kim Possible was ending after season 4,and I'd still love another season of it now but when I think about it I'm also glad it ended before it could go into seasonal rot. Graduation part 1 and 2 was a good way to finish things as well so. Teen titans however could deffinetly use another season,especially to tie up the lose ends with Terra.

When a show I like has a brilliant finale that ties up all of the loose ends and has a strong sense of closure it always bugs the hell out of me when I go online and the first thing I see is hundreds of people saying, "Season 2 when?". It's over and it ended well, do you really want the creators to undo that fantastic ending and force in an unnecessary extra season, just let it die with dignity!

In 2016 we lost or found out about Gravity Falls, Wander Over Yander, Regular Show, Gumball, Adventure Time ending along with the Steven Universe rumors. I'll post my thoughts on the topic in general in a bit, but this is how I felt when these shows that recently ended/cancelled or is ending/cancelling: Phineas and Ferb: Since it lasted for 8 years I was glad that it did ended. Not against with it or anything but Dan, Swampy, and the people needed to move on (and they did, since their new show is coming next month). Gravity Falls: Sad since 40 episodes wasn't enough but I was ok with it. Wander Over Yonder: Sad since there's needed to be more episodes but I accepted it and moved on whatever Disney XD is replacing with. Harvey Beaks: Shocked and rather disappointed. Just wonder what show CH Greenblatt will work at now. Sanjay and Craig: Neutral, because of the show's reputation. Season 1 was full of grossness, but seasons 2-3 were better. I think season 4 would have bring the show back from square one. So I was okay with its ending. Regular Show: Don't get after me, but I'm glad. Because of the repetitive nature and the romantic aspects, it's stopped being my current favorite show (Gravity Falls took the honor and then Steven Universe currently hold it) by season 5. So I believed what Mark Hamill posted (even though he deleted them) and took the rumor as true and accepted and moved on (when it ends). Gumball: Also glad, because while I like the show and all, I AM TIRED of fucking Cartoon Network overexposuring the show along with TTG! It's like two Flash animated they currently has are the most aired ones. While the writers had plenty of ideas, I hope they end it on a high note. Uncle Grandpa: As a defender, I'm sad because the show was just getting better. In the newer episodes, the writing and humor is more gag-based than ever, and Rough Draft Korea is able to put more budget to the animation (not that it was bad but it's slowly starts to better) and awesome backgrounds. One more season would been good enough.

I'm willing to accept a show ending. Provided that the following two things are handled properly. 1. There are no loose ends left untied from previous episodes. I'm sure we've seen plenty of things left unresolved, in other shows. 2. But the more important thing is that it ends on a good note. Shows like Sym-Bionic Titan, King Arthur and the Knights of Justice, Young Justice, the original Teen Titans, Littlest Pet Shop have ended with MANY things left unresolved. For example, LPS ended with Mrs.Twombly's Littlest Pet Street expansion opening wonderfully and Blythe told her father about her secret. But what about Jasper, Mrs.T and Sue. Shouldn't they get to learn about it as well? Whatever happened to Blythe's mother and what was Fisher Biskit's response to Littlest Pet Street's successful grand opening. If a show is concluded in a bad way with no intentions for a sequel/spinoff series or another season. Then, that is the time where more seasons are acceptable. That is, it's acceptable for show's with a story arc

For me, it really depends on the show. I think if SpongeBob ended back at season 4, I don't think I'd have questioned it or been upset.... Mostly because I liked Fairly Odd Parents more, but also because it would have left a ton of great episodes. But when it comes to other shows, I think a good example of a show I'm sad is gone but still accept that it is is the show Monk. It's a great show with some amazingly fun and funny characters that knew what it was doing and ran about 8 seasons. It was such a clever murder mystery comedy style show that I honestly loved sitting down and watching every Friday with family off of our DVR. When it ended it got a great finale, but I wish I could have gotten more from it, like movies or miniseries because it probably would have been great, but then I look back and say "Was it really 8 seasons? Damn." One other example I'd like to throw out there is the series Arrested Development. Although I can't speak for the fourth season, I'm researching the first three, it's a shame what happened to it. The network kept changing its spot despite it winning awards for comedy and the like, and people liking it. They intentionally made it lose rating to stop airing it. That's a shame, because it's an amazing show. Anybody who has Netflix and loves comedy should at least check out the first three seasons, they are comedy gold that even as a kid my aunt would play clips of it to me and I'd be on the floor in stitches just trying to catch my breath! That being said, three seasons is... Okay, I guess, but in shows aimed toward older audiences, the seasons are shorter so... It's not as good.

My main series I feel needed to not end is Danny Phantom, because of the change in showrunners utterly making the arcs go off the rails into a forced conclusion. It needs a redo on that conclusion, the way Gargoyles had the comics to replace season 3.

I always want spongebob to go on. I agree with you on everything else, since it's already ruined. itsure has been an interesting ride, it started out amazing, it gradually got worse, but now, in season 9-10, the plots are better, but comedy is low, like season 4. But with the newer episodes, things have got WEIRD. I like it better than 5 and 6, but these newer episodes have really weird plots. I'm interested to see the show go on. I agree with what you said, but it would be so nice to get chowder back, that show is amazing and underrated.

as an anime fan, endings are something i've had to cope with. be it unsatisfying or just the perfect note. and even on cartoons i watched and may still go back to, i find alot of them to be bittersweet. after the last episode, i tend to think back on my fave parts and episodes.

I remember when Boondocks was announced to end 2 years ago, my friends and I were all pretty upset cause it was one of our favorite shows. Then we found out the creator wasn't working on the final season and just hoped for the best. Good thing the show ended when it did though. That last season was a lot shorter than the previous ones and wasn't nearly as good considering a lot of plot lines felt like repeats of previous episodes.

One show I remembered as a child that I was never able to be pulled away from was Bear and The Big Blue House. I thought that show would go on forever when I was 6 or 7. Even with my mind switching over to Pokemon or CareBears, I always went back to Bear In The Big Blue House. Now that I'm older, I understand why it had ended and am glad to have been able to watch it while it was good, and if the day comes that a reboot of it is announced, I hope they'd remember what made the show great... as well as why they canceled it as well, or else many people will be pushed away from it, as well as pulling their kids away from it for disrespecting the past of the show, much like how TTG disrespectfully rebooted Teen Titans.
