I lose 65 lbs at age 73, drinking water and intermittent daily fasting 17/7 and just slept if I got hungry. Kept it simple. Worked beautifully for me. I did have arthritis and fibromyalgia. It improves. High blood pressure went down too. You must stay hydrated. So drink water only. Be hard core about water only if you can.

Coming in a late... I'm 54 and post-menopausal. Been trying to loose weight for over 18 months and it's just not happening. Was doing very well with my exercises and sucked at what i was eating... I'm evidence of the "can't outrun a bad diet" saying. Now I decided to work on my nutrition first by doing keto with IF... been at it for less than a month but haven't seen ANY results at all. Nothing! Glad I found you before I decided to quite... needless to say: you're God-sent. Ordered your new book "Fast Like a Girl" this morning and should be at my door tomorrow thanks to the Amazon gods. LOL! This is my year! Glad I found you. Thank you.

This is really important for anyone who is struggling with sleep while fasting. I have been trying to decide between longer fasts and getting decent sleep.
@robinbeers66893 жыл бұрын
If you include more protein in your fast/feast cycle, you will sleep blissfully. Your sleep is being disturbed by a cortisol spike which is a sugar burning body's way of telling you to get up and eat. This doesn't happen when you are a fat burner. Your fat-burning body needs energy so it turns to your stored fat without waking you up in desperation.

@@robinbeers6689 Not necessarily true. I could not sleep while doing strict carnivore and fasting. Some say the gut needs some fibrous carbs to make help make progesterone in a woman's second phase of her cycle. Progesterone helps with sleep. There is no one size fits all. Just as the calories in/calories out paradigm has demonstrated.
@robinbeers66893 жыл бұрын
@@kam0406 You don't make progesterone from fibrous carbs and anybody telling you you do doesn't know their basic biology. Hormones are made from cholesterol. Look it up. The reason why the "fasting/keto is bad for women" myth got started was some women doing extreme keto were losing a bunch of weight and also lost their cycles. The thing is, it wasn't because they didn't eat enough carbs, it was because they didn't eat enough food. You shouldn't try to survive on coconut oil. This doesn't mean you need carbs. All that said, there are lots of things that can cause insomnia including magnesium deficiency, thyroid conditions, GERD, alcohol, caffeine, cigs, certain meds for other conditions, stress which causes cortisol spikes which causes blood glucose and insulin to rise. And lots more. Lack of carbs does not cause insomnia unless the body in question is a sugar burner. Not eating enough food during your pre-cycle week and/or doing a lot of intensive workouts then can definitely mess with your progesterone production and hence your sleep and hormonal balance. This is true for carnivores and vegans and everyone in between.

Last night I went through my planner marking how I need to fast over the month but this morning after watching this wonder which I should do? I like the monthly fasting circle better because I’m relatively new to fasting (3-4 months in) and I don’t know if I’m ready for too much autophagy fasting yet. I have done 16-18 hours daily up til now but that’s kind of difficult for me sometimes. Would it hurt to follow the monthly fasting circle? I do want to help out my hormone production too though.

@@robinbeers6689 I agree. 20g of protein is way too low for most cases. I wonder if it's just for 1 week per month or to be repeated every week. Cause I don't think this would be healthy at all if repeated frequently, at any age.

@@EvaMariposa I think she is only specifying that super low level for 4 out of 7 days but that is still too much protein restriction. The other thing is that protein restriction serves no purpose. She may be laboring under the long since discredited notion that "too much" protein kicks you out of ketosis. Or she may be thinking that keeping the protein ultra low fools the body into thinking it is continuing to fast completely and therefore keeps the autophagy going since she calls this madness "autophagy fasting". You're right. It makes no sense. The way I do "autophagy fasting" is carnivore OMAD. 24 hours is plenty of autophagy and a carnivore feast dinner is plenty of protein and other nutrients. At 59, my hair and nails, not to mention DEXA scans, have never looked better.

I strength train as well. This 4 day autophagy fasting may be a little overkill. I’m 41 and have been experimenting with all these suggested fasts since September. My hair thinned a lot. I was losing fistfuls of hair even though I was eating 7-10 cups of greens a day. I have fasted all my adult life during Ramadan and I never experienced this. I would always break my dry fast with a balanced meal of protein veggies complex carbs and Even dessert. During that month I would lose weight feel great and never ever lost more hair than the average person would in a day. Some will blame the hair loss on metal toxicity and that may be true but honestly I have since added back my healthy proteins and my hair is not running away from me anymore 😂. I can’t underscore enough how important protein is. A balanced amount of Protein is our friend!!!
@robinbeers66893 жыл бұрын
@@Shadz863 The way I do "autophagy fasting" is that I feast once per day on carnivore foods. 24 hours is plenty to get the autophagy going and the carnivore feast gives plenty of protein and other nutrients to keep hair, bones and muscles strong. You are such a inspiration to me, and I need to put your advice into practice in my life. I went very early into menopause but I have put a lot of focus into juicing and healthy eating habit. I have started with fasting but Find it challenging in a busy life.

@@DrMindyPelz I wonder what your thoughts are on b-vitamins and especially b1. I know my body and my glands have been very knocked out If I can say it so and I have added yeast to my breakfast as well as b-vitamin supplements and also used rosemary oil on my kidney area. I did experience a shift the first time I did a 20 hour fast and that a few month ago and at that time I did stumbled into your channel.

The progesterone/ estrogen foods helped give me back some regularity and way less symptoms but I'm stuck in weight loss so I can combine this weekly variation with other tools to help get that going again. Thanks

It’s amazing how I get more out of rewatching these videos each time the longer I experiment with this IF lifestyle. For instance, at 6;56, she said this variation is for when women don’t know where in their cycle they are. I presume that’s why it’s got autophagy and hormone building in the same week. Aha!

I’m 52 and I too have a 28 day cycle. Menopause is no where in sight lol. I’m here because my dr. Keeps telling me to lose weight and all my problems will disappear. My blood pressure is a little high and so is my cholesterol. So using and doing 23 hrs of fasting to lose weight. It is working. I’m not breaking my fast with fats. I’m eating whole food plant based. I’m I doing this right? Love your channel and could use your help. Thank you!

I am 61 and stopped menstruating only 2 years ago. Yep - crazy late! I had hot flashes for about 3 years but they are pretty much gone now. I am 40 pounds overweight so I'm working on dropping that. I would like to order your book "Menopause Reset" and would really like information about the Dutch Test. Thank you!

Dutch test. I am on HRT’s and have been for 13 years. Unfortunately for me the HRT’s have been a nightmare with trying to balance my estrogen levels contributing to a great deal of nightmare daily life as my levels go from 30’s to high 200’s with a one time level of over 600 and this is without changing my prescription dose hormonal cream for a period of 2 years. Last month my doctor did reduce my estrogen cream dose after 3 months of very elevated estrogens levels and my lab results went from 189 to 32. I’ve had a most horrid mood and terrible depression. I’m 62 yo female and post menopause for 9 years. I have very good self mental healthcare and many many tools to manage and care for difficult symptoms of cptsd. I’ve struggled severely with binge eating and emotional eating as a young girl. For the most part now with exception of this week, I’ve been able to have a much healthier relationship with food. Water fasting in my 20’s and 40’s would help me to reset. Somehow and for severe dissociation challenges water fasting ceased. I began water fasting a few months ago and my estrogen levels increased again. Did the fasting cause this ? Probably not. I’ve just been through a few weeks of hell again as a result of a huge drop of estrogens and symptoms of cptsd. I came across this channel last night and am exhausted yet I am open to begin listening to these videos and see if I can get some better use for my body to be in more manageable hormonal operation for sleep and moods. I appreciate any feedback and even a consult with my current doctor or even with me if possible.
