Sly's awesome, I can't wait to review the second one cause that's on a whole new level. The 3rd one's really enjoyable as well. The 4th game is... an interesting play but I think it's worth atleast one go. Overall definitely check it out, they're loads of fun.

Hello again, it's been a while. I commented on your Sly Thieves In Time video a while back and said I'd come by your other Sly videos to give my opinions on them as well, and... here I am. I'll say this to start off - the video is simplistic to me. This isn't a knock on more conventional reviews, or even those like this that sum large concepts up in little detail for the sake of streamlining the games' material with humor. I feel like this's taken a small toll on how the story is presented, which for most things might be just fine if it's not worth the investment - but this is Sly Cooper, a franchise ignited and carried along by the competence its' creators, three of which are comic book artists, one who was a Batman artist under DC, plus a Batman fan who had specialty in environmental lighting and artistry, brought to the table - needless to say, gameplay will be tertiary to this games' sense of comic book drama and art. I hope this doesn't come across as impolite, I just felt like some things may have been prioritized over others in describing this game - there's legitimate competence to the story here! I only bring this stuff up because I feel like it was glossed over and avoided what was ultimately the appeal of the game - which, in order to adequately describe the peaks and valleys of its' design, needs to be accounted for. So uh, I actually made a video essay a while back about Sly 1 if you care for it, the other 3 games are yet to be covered, but in case you don't want to see that nearly 60 minute long video of me describing how a raccoon jumps on stuff to you, I'll give a brief description of things I felt should have been mentioned in this video, or were mentioned, but not expanded on. I'm saying this with full recognition that you may very well not revisit the games in reviews - which is fine! I only hope this will maybe chaange how you think about Sly Cooper. I love it a lot! I just wanna encourage you to think about it more too. The artwork is nice, well-drawn, the characters, poses and lighting are dynamic - just not by enough. There are a lot of restrictions the artists clearly struggled with here, and, while one could blame the fact that vectoring the artwork requires a serious amount of control for things to look this good, or that the animations here look unfinished at times and try too hard to animate the characters with too many frame-by-frame "moments" - my biggest issue is with the lack of borders around its' characters. The later games fixed this issue, but to appreciate that choice, it makes sense to look at why it was changed to begin with. Several moments throughout the cutscenes do I feel like the linelessness of the characters maybe blended them too much with their backgrounds, making things less immediately readable. Vivid colors and bright lighting are nice to help contrast them here regardless, but there's a reason they eventually adopted the boldness of comic book outlines, and that's because wrapping the characters with these outlines helps discern them from their environments, even if they are meant to be background elements. There was mention of the linear platforming format in this game and its' similarities to Spyro. I'm happy with how this was communicated in the video! I only bring this up because I'm not long on how Spyro plays or works, so to have it described this thoroughly in so few words was effective - probably didn't need to write a whole paragraph about how lines surrounding characters makes an image easier to digest, did I? There was some throwaway comment in the video about Bentley having only one mission, with a few more sentences thrown at the presence of busywork - missions like collecting chickens for stew, or shooting crabs. There's maybe a way to describe their lack of relevance to the plot or later gameplay segments in a good way - but ultimately, you're right, it's still just busywork for its' own sake. That said, there's something to the gang each sharing some part in the busywork that makes narrative, or in this context, ludonarrative sense. Bentley is the mission breifer from the very beginning of the game - so while his presence is very much felt, he isn't someone who appears to want to be put in the drivers' seat. Otherwise, Sly and Murray shared the bulk of the dirty work, collecting keys and driving things around, and whatall. It's worth mentioning that the "full-time burden" comment isn't a throwaway line either - that's part of Murrays' character! You're in the shoes of someone who wants to be as cool and capable as Sly without any of the actual competence or physical facility to do so. In his own way, he's proven he has his own capabilities, that his drive can, and DID help with Slys' ambitions. Bentley is someone who's shown to be too afraid or weirded out by the things outside of his comfort zone to be bothered dealing with himself - after all, he has two options at his constant disposal to provide him the information he needs, or to provide them the information they need, to satisfy these ambitions. Basically, Bentley is happy with sitting things out. It's so impactful that the one time he finally comes out of his shell (I promised myself I wouldn't say that, it just appeared in the paragraph by magic) is at the height of the stakes in the story. Bentley shows he can be courageous and an equal member of the team by the end. I just gave a huge argument for why Bentleys' lack of involvement is a good thing. I can't say the same for the busywork - while I feel it does make sense, I don't think I'd be saying the extra missions should be dumbed down had they been maybe a touch more involving. Overall it's pretty good, though! That's about the jist of it, props to you if you sat down and read all that. Mad respect for having talked about Sly Cooper in the year 2020, 18 years after its' debut, and I'm overall pretty happy with the way it was represented here, even if I feel like it could have delved more into the specifics of Slys' appeal. I watched a 5 hour long video essay about a show I never watched yesterday though, so to say I'd be happier with more content is something not uncharacteristic of me. Nice video, I'll be happy to watch more!

First of all I just wanna say I appreciate the time you took to comment this and wanna assure you I don't take offense to anything you said - I don't find any of it impolite at all. I get where you're coming from on this. I was new to the whole game reviewing thing during this era of my videos, and while I was probably more knowledgeable than the style of my videos let on at the time, it was that beginning stage so I was still learning anyway, while also still trying to feel out how exactly I was gonna present my content. Even now I'm still not entirely sure. I don't think I have one specific style I totally stick to even 2 and a half years later. You've seen my Sly 4 review and you know that was much longer and more in depth, and gradually since my Crash 4 video I feel my videos have gravitated for the most part towards a more in depth style. Not to say that I'm super insightful or anything like that cause eh, I'm not really, but the content I think is more insightful than it used to be. As I said I was, and to an extent still am, trying out different forms of how I approach my content. And if my content isn't for everyone that's cool, I know there's plenty of other reviewers out there, especially on the Sly Cooper series who are much more knowledgeable like B-Mask, TGX, J's Reviews, etc. Like I said it's just how my content was at the time. If I were to cover the games I covered towards the beginning of my channel again, I'm sure many of those videos would be 2x, maybe even 3x longer because I tend to lean towards a more indulgent style nowadays. Again I don't take it as a knock, everybody's got their style and they all appeal more or less to different audiences. It means a lot that even if this video wasn't necessarily up your alley, it's nice to know that you still enjoyed, and I really do appreciate you taking the time to voice your criticisms in such an articulate way!

That damn grab level!!!! I was stuck on that forever as a kid! Well that and the car missions. I've never been the best at driving in games. Also Ik you said it was ridicules but I personality love clockwork as the villain for the coopers! Was a little disappointed he wasn't mentioned once in Sly 4! Sure ya get to see him! (Which makes no sense in one level!) But no one says anything about him. Shame what happened to him in Sly 2.

It seems like every time you premiere I'm busy doing something that day lol, but anyways that's a good review. Like I've said before R&C was all I had back then so I didn't get sly until October of 2018 but I really enjoyed it for its metal gear approach to the crash bandicoot type gameplay. Everything was great and peachy but my dumbass literally got stuck in that long hook section in China that I stopped playing for almost a year until i realized how much of a big goof I was and figured it out
