Funny story. I grew up going to the beaches in Texas. (Crystal Beach, Emerald Beach, Galveston). One of the ubiquitous problems there was getting black tar on your feet when you spent too much time on the sand. Apparently its from oil spills from the offshore rigs. Anyway, we never went to the beach without having a small container of gasoline that we used to scrub the tar off when we were finished. It was just normal for me. Fast forward many years. I'm grown, joined the Navy and stationed in Florida. Soon after arriving, some shipmates and I decide to go to the beach. I helpfully volunteer to get a container of gasoline for our beach day. My friends looked at me like I had lost my mind. I was a grown-assed man before I realized that Tar doesn't naturally grow under the sand at every beach!

Katrina wiped out a lot of that. Just bought a home in GP but in the northwest corner of the county (20 min from the beach). Moving from these "beaches" up here in MI to those down there. "Michigan?! Ya'll ain't got your own beaches to go to?" Lol! As a native Floridian, can confirm this sentiment. However, it was always entertaining to see northerners vacation in winter...usually overweight and white as a ghost struggling to find their footing in the shifting sands of the ocean shore even at low tide. 😜

Love how you we're headed NORTH on Hwy 59 in front of Souvenir City (The Shark)! And that fabulous hole in wall seafood place is Doc's!😂😂😂

@@MoogieB Yeaaaaaah... I have to agree with @Killer's Opinion on this one. I might be from the South, and Red Lobster might not be a Southern company and all that... but their food is still good, and them Cheddar Biscuits are... oooooooo, Mm mm MM! I can't knock their food. It's tasty. I know it's a bit uncouth in The South to say it, but their food is tasty. At least the ones around me are anyway. They might not be the old Mom and Pop Shop All You Can Eat Oysters Joint (Red Fish Blue Fish on St. Patrick's Day anybody?) on The Gulf or All You Can Eat Crablegs on the Coast in SC, but I have to admit that Red Lobster is in fact a seafood restaurant. A little too hoity toity, but they are a Seafood restaurant. A little much breaded and fried in theirmenu, but it's still teeechnically seafood. And it's still good tasting.

Before my dad passed away back in 06, we took a trip to Gulf Shores every single year, sometimes 2 or 3 times a year actually. I've only been back maybe 4 or 5 times since 06, I miss it.
