Batman was smart enough to go after orphans for his minor sidekicks and adopted them to better hide all the child endangerment. He should be giving Tony tips in that regard(find a new Spider-Man, or wait for aunt Mae to die some can adopt Peter and form the Avengers child labor division). Or have Professor X come in an tell Tony to start a school, since they make such great covers for using/training weaponized children.

I wasn't, he made the right choice. The members of the Avengers, they don't have families and love ones that need them to protect, or a normal life wich doesn't include punching and kicking. (Thor's father is fucking Odin, and Tony only needs to protect Pepper). He love the way his life goes when he's not wearing the suit, if he joined that life would be gone, forever.

To be fair, he couldn't have stopped the elevator at the bottom because it would still stop very rapidly and kill the people inside. Imagine them falling from the height of the monument and then slowing down in a few feet. The G force would probably be more than trained people fastened in seats could bear, so catching it from the top was the right choice

I have to say that I partially didn't like this HISHE. For example Peter still wearing his seat belt in the car meaning he wouldn't be able to rapidly move forward or basically ignoring his character growth and making him go "Heck yes I'd love to be an Avenger". This very clearly was made by the fans as there are some very bad logical inconsistencies.
