This guy has it out for the magpies. Well he can pound sand! Newcastle lads are playing on the pitch, they are winning games on pure talent, hard work, and high intensity football. They are not dropping bombs on the opposition, they are not bribing their way to the opposition net, all of the lads including Eddie Howe are ordinary guys doing a professional job. The management is not spending insane amount of money and considering how Mike Cashley severely mismanaged the club for 14 years, we are fortunate that the current core of players are even putting up a fight at all. Look at the state of the youth academy. This guy is just another snake oils salesman out to peddle his book on the back of current events. Football is just another capitalistic endeavour which has left the chat when the PL decided it will become the number one money spinner and took over global talent from Serie A and the Spanish league. Money has dominated. Others are waking up to the fact and are using the same tactics. You can cry all you want but those are the facts. As far as I am concerned, our lads and Eddie Howe will bring the trophies by their sweat. That is all I care about. And whether Isak, Bruno, Botman and all the new guys cost how much money is irrelevant to me. PSR is just another way to protect a monopoly and the toon will smash that monopoly.

And I'm sure you were saying the same thing when the other clubs were bought by billionaires?

Personally, I think we should address major issues instead of throwing our hands up and doubling down on destructive practices. That's, just me though.

Absolutely.. pReMieR leAguE have des. troyed football with sportwashing.. They've given up their league for oil money and American money..Even city is something now, how embarrassing.. FIFA should make sure investors can buy clubs in every league and invest in their broadcasting deals to compete..Even small clubs like Arsenal, City and Spurs are able to buy players when elite historic clubs like Ajax and Milan are struggling.. It's embarrassing

Meh, the whole concept of sportswashing in itself is contradictory. All it does is bring further attention to said countries, who are making huge progress. If you're such an evil backward place with no intent on changing....why would they bring such attention to them? If anything we ought to be happy the world is making progress, whilst we in the west are frankly teetering on the edge of going backwards/towards oligarchy ourselves. Throwing stones at glass houses & what not. We should welcome progress. Especially when things like World Cups/Olympics are being shunned due to high taxpayer costs/white elephants. Outrage seems so forced.

Your comment is textbook proof of the success of sportswashing. Big pretty buildings and tourist attractions for rich westerners ≠ progress

I won't buy the book even though I have a great interest in this subject. I may wait until it is in the bargain bins. Sports washing is nothing new, and Delaney comes across as though he has uncovered something new. Roman emporers knew the value of financing huge sporting events. Hitler in 1936 is another example of using sport, as was the 1978 Argentina World Cup. Kashogi was murdered in 2018. There was plenty of headlines around the time of his murder but they soon died down. The takeover of NUFC, three years later, was used by Amnesty International and Kashogi's fiancée to highlight human rights issues in Saudi, so if sports washing was their goal they definitely put one in their own net. The furore soon died down again as it did at the time of his murder. Sports washing did not result in the story no longer being headline news. People move on. Football in this country was sold to the highest bidder in 1993. UK owners didn’t sell their shares in clubs because they couldn't compete. They sold their shares to make money. Martin Edwards sold Man Utd long before Abramovich rocked up at Chelsea. Football is in this position because of one thing. Greed. Capatalism and free markets are the enemy here.

I dont think Qatar and Saudi Arabia really care about their human rights abuses being covered because most western governments dont care and rich westerners looking for a holiday definitely dont care. Youre right though it is ultimately a capitalism problem
