It certainly explains everything. I liked all three movies(yeah yeah), but it was painfully evident that they were playing this whole thing by ear, completely forgetting they were all deaf. There was plenty of potential in all three movies that was either wasted due to poor planning or thrown out completely to try to appease as many people as possible. It's a real shame.

But they DID have somewhat of a plan, JJ wrote drafts for 8 and 9 and had ideas on where the characters would go in his vision. But Rian came in and threw the scripts in the trash and what we got was that abomination TLJ. So then JJ threw Rian's ideas in the trash and what we got was ROS.

@foofieviolet4 жыл бұрын
brianna marie williamson apparently, according to the rise of skywalker novelization (and this is no joke, I've seen it in writing), Rey's father was a 'failed clone' of Palpatine, therefore his 'son'? But apparently said failed clone did concieve naturally through the normal boinking method. However as we saw in the flashbacks, they didn't even try to hide the fact that Palpy's failed clone didn't look anything like him!!!! This is the most ridiculous explanation of anything I have ever heard. Also I heard this through the grapevine so I have no proof this is actually true, but the publishing date for the novelization got pushed back because the author and one of the actors got into an argument on wether or not their character died. 🤦♀️ my guess is that it was Adam Driver for one of two reasons 1) I worked so damn hard on this role for 6 years and Ben Solo's death made no narrative sense and was horribly unemotional and pathetic 2) please. Please kill me. Permanently! I do not want to ever have even the slightest chance of coming back to this shit fest, I'm a twice nominated academy award actor I have better things to do with my time if you're literally going to backtrack all my character development and then give me the dumbest death in cinema history, besides Rey's. Problem is, the closure one fan wants has nothing to do with the closure another fan wants. Trying to please everyone is, to my opinion, what killed this trilogy. They started with giving JJ full creative liberties and he did a carbon copy of the 4th movie. the louder fans cried that it was a rehash and nothing was new. Then Rian Johnson had creative liberties and he went the complete opposite. Again, loudest fans cried that it was too different and their (as if they own them and only their opinion mattered) characters were too different. So Disney removed the creative liberties of Colin (I think his name is colin) and said we'll take it from here. They went on social media and check everything the fans said they wanted to see. They filmed THOSE scenes and then built a script around it. That's my take. And to me, hey, it's still star wars. I can cry, and yell and curse that all they want is money and they don't care about fans and all that sh*t but let's be real here. When they decide to pick up this thread again (not IF but WHEN) I will be the first in line to buy a ticket. Because it's Star Wars.

Nano Jurassic If we’re adding up each movies budget, which are all around the 200M mark with the exception of TFA which was a budget of 306M, that equals to about a Billion dollars of money spent on the franchise. Obviously advertising was a cost so it ups the price significantly but let’s just do a rough estimate. 1Billion and a half dollars spent on creating and marketing the films, subtracted from the 4 billion that all of the movies made is still around 3 billion dollars. If there’s one thing I do know about merchandise, it’s that you can make a plush toy or a T Shirt for about two or three dollars and sell it for twenty. That’s a huge monetary gain for Disney because merchandise is constantly being sold regardless of what one feels about the franchise. You’re still very likely to buy Darth Vader’s lightsaber for fifteen or twenty dollars, which benefits Disney nonetheless. Therefore the amount of money they’re making is honestly too big a number to fathom. And I would hate to be the person who has to keep up with all of it.
@ivandekad72495 жыл бұрын
I despise the whole marketing of this film by Disney as "The Epic Conclusion to a 40+ Year Story!!!" No. You bought this already billion dollar franchise and household name just 7 years ago. You went in without any basic structure or overall plan. You threw out years and years of expanded universe lore and stories so that you wouldn't be "bogged down" by lore. You hired 3 different directors who each had free reign to do WHATEVER they wanted(with only 2 years to work), until it started screwing with your bottom line. You tried to pump out a film every year until the disaster that was Solo, and only then did you pump the brakes. Honestly for me, the real "Skywalker Saga" is just the original trilogy and the prequels, which at least always feels like George and his team's vision. The sequel trilogy at best feels like a genuine attempt to live up to that magic, and at worst feels like bad fan-fiction. Anyway, rant over.

Finally someone who agrees, im so tired of everytime i see anything about star wars online i see people who like the disney trilogy, and i hate to be that "toxic" star wars fan but i realistically cant understand how anyone can possibly enjoy the disney trilogy and call themselves fans. I think its great that people came out of Rise of Skywalker like "oh this is my favorite star wars movie" or "oh this is the best star wars movie" and then like 1 week later Disney was like yeah we never had any plan going into these films, it just made all those so called "fans" look absolutely stupid

Qepy I agree, that is why I questioned TLJ’s decisions because it felt like the movie was setting up for its own trilogy. It didn’t stay with the flow of TFA. Then when TROS showed up, it pretty much confirmed that they didn’t have a plan for the sequel trilogy.

That's why a lot of long time fans of Star Wars have rejected the sequels thoroughly and consider the EU to be the "real" canon of Star Wars. I'm one of those people; the sequels were some ... interesting fan fiction with a large budget, but as far as I'm concerned they don't replace the EU.
That's fucking gold. As bad as the writing was in the sequel trilogy, the fight scenes were even worse.

@@osmano675 In the throne room scene, one of the guards weapons literally disappears to avoid killing Rey or kylo. Same thing with kylo, Rey literally slashes her (anakins) lightsaber across Kylos face and he gets away with a scar? His face should should be sliced in two. Disney thinks Star Wars is for kids, but from the OT and PT it’s clearly not. Chopping off limbs, slavery, killing younglings. Star Wars has never been for kids. I understand George Lucas wanted to spend time with his wife and kids, but he even says that selling Star Wars to Disney was painful. And now we get an unsatisfying ending to the saga we all knew. Everyone had their own preferences for which direction the sequel trilogy could go, but the common through line was that they wanted a good story. What they got was insipid storytelling, terrible characterization that reset several characters' growth in the OT (Han Solo is a deadbeat dad and a washed up smuggler as opposed to a war hero who destroyed the second Death Star) or completely inverts their character altogether (Luke is now an attempted child murder and a coward as opposed to a hero who prioritizes family and the innocent above even his own life), and the writing of each movie has come down to a bickering match between Ryan and JJ arguing over who has the better story by sprinkling jabs at each other in episodes 8 and 9.

His redemption was way too rushed and honestly needed an entire movie but that scene was still really good. (Also my other favorite scene is in the tunnels when Rey turns on her lightsaber and Poe dramatically turns on his flashlight) The biggest disappointment of this trilogy for me is they didn’t have any sort of full plan, and yet I really cared about these characters and they deserved so much more. My dumb butt thought “rise of skywalker” meant Kylo finally stepping the Babu Frick up and going back to the light and stopping Palps. Kathleen Kennedy had other plans tho I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

People who like these movies always try to use the excuse that well people change and that it had been 30 years so this wasn’t the same Luke we knew back in the OT but Luke would never just give up like he did. Luke was always the most hopeful character in all of stories yet after what happened with kylo and him joining snoke and turning to the dark side they just had him completely give up and basically say sorry Han and sis this isn’t my problem I’m gonna go isolate myself on some faraway planet and just let kylo and snoke terrorize and take over the galaxy killing billions of people along the way. Episode 8 did that a bit, although it was fairly disjointed. Rise of Skywalker was just a complete fail. It's clear that Abrams had no creative concept other than to simply recreate the story arc of the original trilogy. Never saw Poe and Finn as being gay in the movies. I know Oscar Isacc mentioned he played it like that and they could potentially go in that direction after the basic set up TFA if they wanted to, but nothing in the subsequent movies made me feel like their relationship was ever going there. And I say that as someone whose shipped a fair number of gay couples in movies/series/comics before. I just never felt it. It felt similar to the relationship I have with my best friend (and we are really really really close) than any sort of romantic interest. It was definitely vague enough to be within the bromance level. Again I think there is enough there that the writers "could" have taken that route after if they wanted to, but there was nothing definitive about it. I felt like they were good natural best friends that didnt take it any further because a) they never saw it that way or b) just were not into other guys sexually.

Kathleen Kennedy spent 10+ years looking at how the fandom hated the prequels and wanted the originals again, and this is how the sequel trilogy got made. If there's anyone to blame, it was the fandom and their stubborn, close-minded attitude because they couldn't get into galactic politics in the prequels and only wanted what the original trilogy did, and Lucasfilm fulfilled those wishes, but once again the fandom still complained. It wasn't that there was collaboration, or even that there wasn't a plan (OT didn't have a plan!). It was that JJ is a B+ Director who cannot conclude things to save his life. Parallels: Snoke=Emperor (all powerful overlord); Kylo=Vader (masked servant of all powerful overlord who might be redeemable since he's related to a character we know); Han=Ben (old mentor figure who is killed by the lightsaber of the masked servant of the all powerful overlord while our heroes can only scream before they have to run off); Rey=Luke (preternaturally talented protagonist who may be related to another powerful character); Poe=Han1 ("don't tell me the odds" pilot); Finn=Han2 (morally grey character more focused on attachments to friends than a larger cause) ... and that's not even getting into "It's the Death Star but instead of a moon it's a planet" shit.
