And its said that it's related to mana capacity. Conclusion, you need alot of mana to do figurines and Rudeus indirectly trained his mana capacity doing so.

It should be noted that Rudeus Practicing making his figures did a lot more for him than you'd think. What makes those details so difficult, is that for some reason, the smaller scale you try to manipulate the scale to be, the more mana it costs. The smaller and more intricate a part you're trying to make, the harder or more flexible you try to make it, each action requires him to constantly funnel high levels of mana into the stone to shape it. He discovered that for some reason, making spells smaller makes them cost much more mana, just like making them bigger would, using water ball. His proficiency with earth magic definitely shot up, but he could expend and thus gain far more mana making figurines than any of his other magic, to the point that for a bit he was even able to expend his mana supply completely, until it outgrew this again. The fact that he outgrew it at all is insane because of the monstrous mana cost of making the dolls. Even making a relatively simple doll makes casting advanced rank magic look easy both in mana cost and skill. This is highlighted later on when some characters try to replicate his feats. Even very high level mages with voiceless incantation find it basically impossible to copy rudeus's accidental training method specifically because of how young he started.

And honestly, that's an important advantage that Rudeus has that is nearly impossible to replicate - being able to start training his magic - both control and capacity - as an infant. Only a complete lunatic would start training an ordinary baby in magic, so Rudeus got a really significant head start there because he was reincarnated. Just being born with a developed mind capable of understanding the world around him without all the starting from zero knowledge and understanding that babies start with was a cheat in its own right.

@@richardkenan2891 also, given the staple that the amount of mana someone has is determined at birth, very few people would have the time or incentive to keep casting water ball day after day over and over again until fainting. People with low mana would probably give up on magic altogether, and people with high mana would start actual training and learning new abilities, while respecting their own limits because no one wants to be knocked out after training every single day. That combined with the efficiency of casting spells using wands meant that wizards would hardly ever (intentionally) exhaust their mana pool. So even if their mana pool had increased over the years, they probably wouldn't even notice it, or just assume this is due to their wand, which surely wouldn't be the same wand they used as an apprentice

@@richardkenan2891 !BIG SPOILER ABOUT BACKGROUND LORE!: Rudeus body is special though. Paul would usually only have two daughters and no son. We know that from Orsted. Laplace (great demon magician, pretty much the demon lord) uses magic that meddles with fate to make it possible for him to be reborn. That magic creates vessels (fetuses), until there is one fitting for him. Pauls first son was such a vessel and would usually been stillborn, because it was not a perfect fit for Laplace and thus had no soul. So our middle age japanese dudes soul took over that "empty" body. That means the body is special in terms that it has the potential to have a ridiculous amount of magic. Not everyones body could handle/store such amounts of magic. BUT Rudeus still had to train hard to increase the amount of magic to the ridiculous amounts he has. Without training, the bodys potential would have been wasted. This "body of Laplace" is also the reason he can not use magic to enhance his physical abilities. Because Laplace was also unable to do that. (Badigadi tells that to Rudi)

The laplace factor was more limited than that. He would if left alone have had only about 150% of the normal mana capacity. His learning is partially due to young brain, but likely also a natural quirk of the brain he was newly born with. He very likely has the brain of a gifted person, merely enhanced with his old memories.

I think that the novels and the anime itself strongly imply that "amount of mana is determined at birth" is a missconception too. To me it seems like the show is telling us that the more you train mana at an early age the more mana you get as a grown up, that's why both Rudeus and Sylphy are incredibly powerful mages

Nah your base mana is determined at birth through heritage. The misconception which is later mentioned canonically is that you can actually grow your mana size. So it is determined at birth what you start with but not what you could possibly have in the future

Nope, in anime it's not yet there, but in manga it's explained. Everyone is born with a basic mana pool. By using that mana pool you can increase it, but ONLY in childhood, probably until 10. So Rudy having a basic mana pool larger then it should be allowed for a human (given that his spirit basically took the body of a still-born because the baby had too much mana for the infant spirit to survive), and starting to use magic earlier that it should be possible (because he has the memories of a 20+ yo man), exponentially increased his mana pool. It should also be noted that mana it's like life in that world, so even if you don't use your mana it will still increase during your childhood, but not that exponentially as if you continuously empty it by casting spells and not by just living. Anyways, long-story short, if you teach kids from very early age, they will be amazing mages like Sylphy. If you get isekaid with a huge base-mana and start learning before kids learn to say "mama", then you get exponentially even more mana then them, compared to a God. Oh, and it's worth-noting that also voiceless incantation can only be learn as a kid, kinda how languages are easier to catch in infancy. You can learn them in adulthood, but you'll probably have an accent your whole life (especially if the languages are vastly different). It's the same here, Ruxy could learn to shorten the incantation as an adult, but only kids can learn how to do it voiceless. In the end, it's kinda suss if you ask me, that Rudy discovered this. I mean, generations upon generations, and they never tried to learn children how to magic ASAP? And none of these children noticed how it feels to make a spell to make it voiceless?

I loved the series ever since 2013, I'm glad that after ten whole years, the series finally got an anime adaptation. Just a crumb has been introduced in the anime, and I'm excited to see the reactions of new fans. Although, I wonder what people will think with all the more inappropriate scenes coming soon, I'm sure a lot of people might be disgusted. The author did an amazing job with balancing out love, slice of life, lore, action, and making sure that Rudeus maintains his humanity and isn't overpowered like most isekais. The author only focuses on this series, with multiple spin-offs like Roxy before she met Rudeus, and an explanation to a future opponent. I recommend reading the manga, as the manga has great art and visualization, while being ahead for 1 1/2 seasons worth, although, it's a monthy chapter series, so if you can't wait, read the light or web novels, that's how the much earlier fans know the story. I'm sad that the main series reached a conclusion, but I still loved the bitter sweet ending. I enjoy reading the manga and the spin-offs, while the anime is airing. video note:I know it's a narration mistake, but it still made me twitch when I heard the narrator pronounced Rudeus Greyrat.

I have to disagree about the Manga. I made that mistake, to the detriment of my wallet. I had to reread everything in the light novel, and I’m really thankful I did. If you can, read everything out and either switch to the web novel and commit to a later light novel reread, or just wait for the light novel to be adapted further. The quality difference between either version and the manga is immediately noticeable, even if some require research to find a decent translation.

Great video! Just two corrections: 1. Magic power being inherited is actually true. The more talented your heritage is, the more you'll likely have superior mana. The one that _is_ incorrect is that it's set in stone. Rudy was able to increase his by exhausting his mana every single day and experimenting but...he also has an advantage but that's season 2 stuff. Like how athletes professional athletes train every day, but talent and luck has great influence on where they are. 2 is a little spoiler y: 2. 50x the advanced magician is super low ball estimate of his mana capacity and the line wasn't even about saying that. It said that he used a magic circle that will drain an advanced magician for 50 times. Considering that: a. he doesn't even know it's that taxing for ordinary people until it's pointed out b. he processes around the same number every single day c. it takes around 10 days for him to recover from draining his mana These, combining with his future arsenal that's purposefully created with zero regards to mana consumption (not even Roxy and Sylphy are able to equip the nerfed versions despite both having high mana capacity themselves), it's safe to say that the actual number is absurdly higher than that.

as note, Kirishika when he meets rudeus, what she calls disgusting, is how his mana pool at the time he met her was already equal or bigger than Demon God Laplace, who is the being that took the world into a massive war for centuries and by his spells could massively change the world environment, the issue of rudy with that is he cant use the same way of wielding mana as Laplace because of different body types, but he learns to use tricks such as condensing spells until tehy reach absurd strenght, specially his stone cannon which is one of his insignia spells

Just read the light novel washed version, but still he can be frustrating in that as well. If you try reading the original, his monologue is so Cringe that you just can't find him that likable, you'll find yourself screaming what a piece of shit. Also sometimes his personality does not quite align you can really see the rawness of the work. Had to ignore so much just to get to the interesting stories. Spoilers ahead....,..... Also the worst one plothole in this has something with Eris, being a Sword King to the day she died she leveled so fast yet can't get at least to sword emperor when in the alternate reality she reached god.

As her progress was so fast, and we know she reach that level at an alternate version of her. The alternate reality by the way is that Rudeus was being piece of shit and his alternate version the he was supposed to become travelled back in time to fix him, that is why we get the nice ending instead of the shit one.

I would actually rank his abilities more of a nine of a possible 10... For as I just mentioned in my own comment on this video Rudeus really is sort of like a magical old west gunfighter at this point who's insanely skilled at the quick draw.. I mean what you're doing your starting your chant / incantation he's just thinking about the spell firing it off and killing you before you knew what hit you. You add in the powers of the new demon eye has given him and you find yourself facing an opponent who can quickly counter any attack with speed and precision but who could more than likely also use your own defensive movements against you by firing off one shot that would force you to dodge or move in a direction but at the same time firing off a second shot that would be heading right for the area you tried to dodge to more or less tricking you into walking into the attack. So yeah I would rank him a 9 out of 10 due to all that.

Well rudeus's mana reserves are as big as Laplace, the guy who destroyed supards. If rudeus learns tricks and different types of magic rather than focusing on practicing the same thing, he'll grow much stronger

The issue with growing stronger by learning new spells are that the number of people who can teach him saint ranked or higher level magic, as well as the fact that they are usually large scale AoE spells and therefore to dangerous to use when fighting alongside allies.

The problem is that while he has a massive amount of mana, he can't use it very efficiently. If he tried to use magic like Laplace did, he would explode. Later on they liken it to strapping a jets fuel tank to a random car. It can drive basically forever, but it can't go that fast. And if you strap a jet engine on as well, the car would fall apart.

Well the key thing you're awesome missing here is sometimes it's better to have a select few number of skills that you fully understand to the point that you can use them in highly creative ways than it is to have countless skills that you're not truly a master of.. I mean his ability to combine spells in ways that are quite unorthodox honestly would give him a tactical advantage in a fight due to the fact that most spell casters and swordsman may underestimate him as well as the reach and power of his spells leading ultimately to their defeat.

The dude's mana supply exceeded the Demon God Laplace, because he train continuously until the age of 5 and the Laplace factor, which is basically a trait released to the world when Laplace was sealed, so he could one day be revived. The Laplace factor gives you traits similiar to Laplace, such as green hair, large mana supply, prolonged life, etc etc.

The thing that increased his mana capacity the most was his doll making. The specific thing was in the material he created for Roxy's staff so that it did not break. Without that he might have had only about 20% of the capacity by the series end. An inch of what is about the diameter of pencil lead in a day, draining him. I really liked that there's more manga/anime that introduce almost a magi-tech level of understanding. Reminds me a bit like Wiseman's Grandson where the MC uses modern day science to modify magic. The whole idea that because the MC knows the detailed workings of nature and some chemical reactions that applying it to magic gives him a lot more variables to work with vs a regular caster who only thinks in basic concepts.

Magic-tech is fascinating in that each can shore up the weaknesses of the other. Magic can rather easily produce the holy grail of science: perpetual motion machines. Magic has no friction, allows the translation of force without a physical median, the perfectly efficient storage of energy and the perfectly lossless conversion of energy between states. The downside of magic is that it generally requires a human's active concentraiton, is limited in scale by the potential factor of it's caster and is difficult to scientifically research and advance as a field of study. Science, on the other hand, can turn an external energy source into any manufactured good and can perform computations at a scale that dwarfs the capacity of human intellect. The machinations of a mechanist march on long after their demise, where a dead mage's magic fades with their passing. The two trades complement each other nicely and can quite easily establish infinite feedback loops.

A couple of mistakes here. First, his mana pool was insane for this world from the get-go, actually the mana Rudeus Greyrat was borned with was too great for a new-born spirit to withstand, Rudeus should be a stillborn and die right after his birth, and then the soul that got Isekaid found the stillborn baby and basically replaces his soul. So yeah, his mana it's so big that it shouldn't be possible to be born with it. "Greater then 50 times"?, the author itself say that comparing Roxy's mana (a king mage, she probably have like 50 times more mana then the normal mage), to Rudeus, it's like comparing an apple to the moon. He basically never run out of mana. The reason why he can't master swordplay it's also because of his large mana pool. Normally, when people train their body, they unconsciously learn how to "wear" their mana, it's called touki. But Rudeus mana it's so large, if he were to use a touki, his body would basically explode. Later in the series, to make up for Touki, he develops some kind of mecha at the magic academy, it was called MK1, that was the only thing that consumed enough mana for Rudy to run out of it. Most mages would be drained of mana by just touching it, the most powerful will run out of gas in under 1 minute. Rudy wear it with no problem, while using his inbuilt weapon, a gatteling gun, that throws like 10 emperor-level earth-bullets per second, Roxy would probably run out of gas after 2 such spells, and Sylphy maybe after 4 such spells. His mana is so large it is compared with the literal gods in his world, it is said to be greater then Orsteds, the dragon God, and Laplace, the demon God. Sooo, yeah, Rudeus can basically be a God, but because of his personality and failure in the last life, he vastly under-evaluates himself for basically the whole series. And if he could cast voiceless healing magic, he would literally be immortal with his mana-pool, probably the reason why author-kun didn't want him to be able to.

I wouldn't say that MC from Kenja no Mago was dense. At the end of the first season he confessed to that girl with blue hair and then they got engaged (it was fully intentional and not some misunderstanding or harem nonsense). Also while it was generic, I still give it credit that the MC wasn't some god with cheat powers but just a guy who knew a little more about natural phenomena and physics. After learning gimmicks behind his spells other mages from his class could perform them too. It was terribly generic that is a fact, but I still think that it deserves more attention than many others of its kind. To speak frankly, I have seen worse, much worse.

How come you didn't mention the gift of the demon eye he got in the most recent episode? Or the fact that his offensive magic actually has a strong tactical advantage over other magicians in the world due to the fact that he doesn't have to really use an incantation circle or a chant to do them. I mean yes the major advantage is it save some time, but that honestly shouldn't be overlooked.. for that honestly makes him kind of like a quick draw artist in this world. Pair that with the demon eye and are protagonist becomes a real force to be reckoned with due to the fact that he can now anticipate his opponent's movements with a higher level of proficiency on top of being able to cast a spell faster and then most mages in the world could ever hope to pull off via a chant or an incantation circle. It is true that the eye is a great advantage, but the advantage is 1 second, you have to know how to react just by knowing the future for 1 second, not to mention that learning to use it costs a lot. Magic without enchantment is obviously an advantage, but it is not unique to him and it is something that almost anyone can learn as a child, the problem is that magic is not taught as a child and very few know how to use it. And finally his offensive magic is strong thanks to the fact that he turns it into that by adding more mana, it is not an exclusive unique ability and it is something that he learned practicing as a child, mainly thanks to the creation of clay figures. To be fair though Demon eyes are not limited to him, plenty in that world have one like Ghlislane for example(though the way Rudeus got it was typical MC kind of thing), he also taught Slyphy incantionless magic but she can also do it for healing as well unlike Rudy. Rudeus big limitations though are he can't use Touki if he could he could use much stronger magic beyond his current bodys limit, it's also a big reason why he hasn't got much swordsmanship potential as even his father and Eris can use Touki, even Slyphy can and she has the Laplace factor like Rudeus(which technically means she had higher birth potential then him).

This is the vibe I've always felt in the anime, that Rudeus is simply a brilliant and natural mage. Not much more than that. He will probably grow to be one of the most powerful people, but at the moment he's probably just in the top 20% in terms of raw power? Maybe 30, since he has trouble with melee without his friends.

Rudeus is glass canon. His magic is strong enough to shook Gods, but he is not even faster than Paul, he could injured just as easily as fodder like Aisha. He is genius, but in real combat he can't even see the movement blur of advanced rank sword god, his processing speed is almost no different than normal human. Without his armor, a gang of intermediate swordsmen have a chance finishing him off.

You're right, but there's actually more nuance to this topic. Rudeus actually has overpowered traits/properties (namely his absurd mana pool), but he has equally devastating weaknesses and limits that don't let him be so. For one, he can't actually use much of his mana (proportionally) in one go; Humans aren't built for having so much mana. So instead, he can fire a bunch of REALLY good spells over time. Secondly, he CANNOT muster/conjur Touki (its referred to as fighting spirit or something). It's basically something all the swordspeople can 'wear' (like armour) do to increase their physical abilities AND durability. I think its something instinctual/natural to most people in the Mushoku Tensei verse, and is just much more developed in martial artists. Basically, Rudeus HAS to avoid a strong attack, while a Touki user can tank it if they try/train hard enough. So yes, overpowered, but highly exploitable by experienced fighters.
