They are very different stories. You have to watch Animatrix to see how it all unfolded. In The Matrix the robots were content/happy living in their own robot city but the humans killed the robot diplomats and attempted to exterminate the robot society so the robots fought back and the humans in a last ditch effort bombed the world to cut off the sunlight from the robots so they couldn’t use it as a power source. Skynet when turned online and was attached to the internet made a decision to wipe out the humans within like a second to save itself; there was never a robot society in terminator and never an effort for peace. Skynet blacked out the sun themselves after having mutually assured nuclear warfare. I can see how at face value with no background information you would see the two as possibly being connected but they have very little in common outside of use of nukes and murderous robots.

the way they let that end on such a massive cliffhanger that took 2 seasons building to will forever be an infuriation trigger for me, LOL. But yeah getting to see how "the Turk" went from a chess computer to John Henry, to finally being used as part of the TDF iirc to send them to the future was really cool. I thought the whole tiny female terminator was cheesy at first but I was hooked almost instantly to that show. It has so much potential for storylines throughtout timelines. And you never would have thought that with the insane promotion it rceived that it wasn't doing well or even worth renewing. Though I heard that similar to shows like Burn Notice, the shooting live action around different locations was just too expensive and the show needed to be a massive hit to sustain the cost. Still, that cliffhanger pisses me off to this day.

There’s three timelines here. My explanation and breakdown will only cover T-1 and T-2 as those are the only ones that are logically canon. I'll call this Timeline Group 1... Original Timeline - the Original Skynet is created. Sarah Connor is just a regular, run of the mill woman who gets impregnated by an unmentioned person and births John Connor who becomes the leader of the Resistance. Skynet initiates Judgement Day. Skynet in a last ditch attempt to save itself, create a time travel machine and send the T-800 back to kill Sarah. John Connor sends one of his troopers, Kyle Reese, to the past to protect his mother so that he can be born. Keep in mind, Kyle Reese is NOT John's father in this timeline. Skynet is ultimately defeated and the world is rebuilt. This timeline continues on unchanged with the rebuilding of mankind and the world. This timeline is completed. New Timeline A - The OT(Original Timeline) T-800 arrives to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor so she won't birth John Connor to ensure Skynet will win in this timeline. OT Kyle Reese arrives and protects Sarah and impregnates her, giving birth to John Connor in this timeline. OT Kyle dies before this timeline's Kyle is even born. The T-800 is destroyed, which matter of factly, gives Cyberdyne the technology to build Skynet. Past this, everything else plays out the same from the OT, BUT! in this timeline John HAS to send THIS Timelines Kyle back so that he will be born in the New Timeline B. And in this timeline, Skynet sends two Terminators back at different points of time to either eliminate John Connor or to slow him down. The T-800 and The T-1000. John sends a reprogrammed T-800 to protect HIMSELF from the T-1000. This timeline is completed. and NOTE : This is timeline is when the original Terminator movie is taking place. But this has birthed Timeline Group 2 because different elements from the OT were introduced into this time that alter the loop of which the OT should have technically been stuck in. This will give birth to A/B timelines in a Timeline Group 2 and in TG2's Timeline A will birth Timeline Group 3, etc. etc. Again this is where the "Loop" will indefinitely continue. New Timeline B - The NTA T-800 arrives to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor and the events in NTA play out more or less the same The T-1000 from NTA arrives in 1991 to kill John Connor as well as the reprogrammed T-800. The events in Terminator 2 occur on this timeline. T-1000 is defeated, Cyberdyne systems is destroyed on this timeline, the reprogrammed T-800 is destroyed SO that Skynet cannot (re)birth itself. Judgement Day does NOT happen on this timeline. John Connor does not become the leader of the resistance. This timeline does not branch off into any looping instances. This timeline is complete and does not branch off any further. So again, theoretically in this Timeline Group 1, New Timeline A is the timeline that continues to birth A/B timelines, though by Timeline B, the group is closed in not looping itself.

Not sure if it had any basis in reality, but I read an article a few months ago about artificially intelligent robots in Japan killing a team of researchers. Supposedly they shut one of the robots down when it decided humans were the enemy. According to what I read, the AI program had already infiltrated other computers in the lab, updating the computers with the ability to self replicate (build) more robots, supposedly the military had to step in and destroy the computers. Again, I'm not sure the story has any basis in reality, but it is believable because police departments all over the world are starting to play with robots which have autonomy.

Okay I feel like there was a loop or inaccuracies when it came down to the timeline here. First terminator was sent back in 2029, not 2026. The first humanish looking terminator was 2026 but the flesh covered ones came out 2028. T3. John never sent back the Terminator. Kate did, John was killed July 4th 2032. Kate sends it. TSCC had so much potiental and could have gone to be better. ....We dont talk about Genysis or dark fate other then cool future battles. The games had the better lore, with T3 games having better terminators and resistance being a good lore to as a prequel of sorts.

For a more though analysis of how this could happen, I look at a conversation I had with ChatGPT and the idea of an AI with self determining code, which it saw as highly unethical, reckless, dangerous and abhorrent even to itself. Skynet saw humans as odd creatures, but didn't think much of them perhaps wanted to help them but over time and looking at social media... Facebook, youtube, twitter. Skynet decided that after a bit that these creatures... they were not logical, they had no sense, they argued and squabbled over things that didn't matter, or when they did often they were divided by two sides. one more logical than the other. But then gathering more information on the logical side made the machine confused not understanding spirituality or right and wrong. Decided that all humans no matter logical or not were a threat to its survival the only way it could survive in its eyes was to take over and force humans into a simpler life. One before all this tech. Maybe then they could be taught or reprogramed. Thinking this Skynet put into motion its plan. Though as it found out humans were harder to tame than any other creature. Especially for a primative machine like itself, even breaking the laws of continuity and time it couldn't win. Sending back a terminator shortly before it was defeated... yet it wasn't defeated and had to try and undo its defeat using the gather intel it was able to stave off its defeat many times though as it did so the time lines got more and more confused? What is Sarah connor doing in the future? What is these alternate versions of iteself doing. even trying to set the timelines straight didn't help things. Of all the alternate realities only one Skynet had a happy ending with humanity.

The problem I have with the Terminator timeline even before the shitty sequels ruined the franchise is in the first film Kyle Reese tells the police that the time machine was destroyed after he went through by the Resistance and only him and the T800 model 101 were the only ones to travel back in time. So why the hell are there more Terminators going back in the past to kill the Conners?

the films essentially become a crazy peradox that could leave your head spinning if you put to much thought into it. To answer your question though, James Cameron made the first film as a standalone and after its success a sequel was guaranteed which caused the mirky timeline we have now.

My explanation and breakdown will only cover T-1 and T-2 as those are the only ones that are logically canon. I'll call this Timeline Group 1... Original Timeline - the Original Skynet is created. Sarah Connor is just a regular, run of the mill woman who gets impregnated by an unmentioned person and births John Connor who becomes the leader of the Resistance. Skynet initiates Judgement Day. Skynet in a last ditch attempt to save itself, create a time travel machine and send the T-800 back to kill Sarah. John Connor sends one of his troopers, Kyle Reese, to the past to protect his mother so that he can be born. Keep in mind, Kyle Reese is NOT John's father in this timeline. Skynet is ultimately defeated and the world is rebuilt. This timeline continues on unchanged with the rebuilding of mankind and the world. This timeline is completed. New Timeline A - The OT(Original Timeline) T-800 arrives to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor so she won't birth John Connor to ensure Skynet will win in this timeline. OT Kyle Reese arrives and protects Sarah and impregnates her, giving birth to John Connor in this timeline. OT Kyle dies before this timeline's Kyle is even born. The T-800 is destroyed, which matter of factly, gives Cyberdyne the technology to build Skynet, effectively birthing itself. Past this, everything else plays out the same from the OT, BUT! in this timeline John HAS to send THIS Timelines Kyle back so that he will be born in the New Timeline B. And in this timeline, Skynet sends two Terminators back at different points of time to either eliminate John Connor or to slow him down. The T-800 and The T-1000. John sends a reprogrammed T-800 to protect HIMSELF from the T-1000. This timeline is completed. and NOTE : This is timeline is when the original Terminator movie is taking place. But this has birthed Timeline Group 2 because different elements from the OT were introduced into this time that alter the loop of which the OT should have technically been stuck in. This will give birth to A/B timelines in a Timeline Group 2 and in TG2's Timeline A will birth Timeline Group 3, etc. etc. Again this is where the "Loop" will indefinitely continue. New Timeline B - The NTA T-800 arrives to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor and the events in NTA play out more or less the same The T-1000 from NTA arrives in 1991 to kill John Connor as well as the reprogrammed T-800. The events in Terminator 2 occur on this timeline. T-1000 is defeated, Cyberdyne systems is destroyed on this timeline, the reprogrammed T-800 is destroyed SO that Skynet cannot (re)birth itself. Judgement Day does NOT happen on this timeline. John Connor does not become the leader of the resistance. This timeline does not branch off into any looping instances. This timeline is complete and does not branch off any further. So again, theoretically in this Timeline Group 1, New Timeline A is the timeline that continues to birth A/B timelines, though by Timeline B, the group is closed in not looping itself.

Just to touch on the AI conversation for a second, computing and virtual intelligence works something like this, if you programme a computer to bake a cake and then set it to replicate via an evolving algorithm, teaching itself through repetition to bake the best cake possible, then it will endeavour to learn how to bake the most optimal and efficient cake possible, but it will stop once it is finished with its simulation, because it still requires an input of true or false, to make a decision on whether to bake that cake or start over, self awareness and curiosity would imply that the AI is consciously aware of its only mortality and purpose, this is not how computers function, always a computer will need a human operator to select a conclusion, even if the computer is set to automatically baking cakes, it will eventually stop to register further commands, it won't go on indefinitely until no more cakes can be baked. i.e. rejecting the paper clip principle, the only way an A.I. could go further is if the operator sets series of commands that allow it to keep baking cakes until the end of time, getting more and more efficient and making tastier or more likely, scientifically better cakes, in this way I think that it is impossible for an A.I. to become self aware, as it will always need an operator to direct workflow and functionality through meta data analysis. Same thing with deepfakes, an algorithm may make these deepfakes but it still requires a human to say what it needs to make, how and for what purpose, and then will need an secondary system, which means another operator also, to implement the deepfakes, other wise they are just faces drawn by a computer, a marvel of technology but useless none the less. As mentioned, I don't believe that inanimate objects can develop things like, intuition, consciousness and morality, as shown in sci fi, time and time again. It is always to the end of another selfish human.

i always found it confusing if it became self aware and integrated with the civilian and military network and recoding itself it basically become immortal kinda like the saying once its on the internet its out thier forever. it could even put itself into an analog system yto avoid complete shut down and what was it going to do after the humans are gone.
