I'm finishing my first year in PP Cambodia, and plan never to return to the US. My main reason was I could no longer accept what the US government was doing around the world as - far- as endless wars, and the eroding of personal freedom. I have spent time in Siem Reap, and it's a nice, and clean - City. Although, It's just a - little - too - slow for my taste. What I remember about getting my first - Tuk -Tuk ride to where I was staying in PP was - panic. There is no rules here beyond speeding, and what you will see will blow - your - mind, but after a while, it will appear normal. At first, you will smell things that will take some time to get use --to, but in time, that will pass. The Cambodian people are just polite, kind, and wonderful people. I smile here and feel complete freedom. I walk everywhere in this city, and never feel unsafe - IF - you use common sense.

@billdaley3476 I'm moving to PP next week, for similar reasons you mentioned. Have visited PP many times, the people are wonderful. I've had a different experience with the Tuk Tuk, seems like everyone drives maybe 25mph tops. I almost lost it when I was in a Tuk Tuk and we got passed by a guy very leisurely riding a bike, and no one in front of us. I've asked my gf if we can try to bribe the drivers to drive a little faster, she says we can't do that. 😢🤣. Greetings from DFW

I moved to Thailand. I live in a condo that is a five-minute scooter ride to the beach. It has a huge custom pool, weight room, guard, and concierge and covers parking for $250/month. Health insurance is $115 per month (I'm old). My favorite lunch is a freshly made chicken kabob, very filling $2.50. I can sit at a bar and enjoy the sunset with a beach view and a beer cost $2.50.

Us two, we don’t eat all this modern takeaway. I’ve always been more happy around people from other countries than my own. My wife and I are our own best friends. All our kids are adults now. But most of all, the way of life and attitude of these Asian people is much better than a lot of people in the west. It’s not what we are running from, it’s what we are running to.

@theasianjaywalker4455 Dude - grow up. I think bigroundwatermelon6456 is just saying the locals are nicer than a lot of people from western cultures. I'm 100% Asian, but that doesn't make me better than you. It doesn't make me worse than you, either. I don't care where you're from, it doesn't matter what color your skin is. If you're a good person inside, that's all that matters. The Khmer people have been through some shit times, and they've not only survived, but they thrive. They could have become bitter and withdrawn, but instead, they are open and friendly. They live on what would be considered subsistence wages in the U.S., yet they are generous. If people around the world were as kind and friendly as the Khmer, it would be a much better place.

Thanks Dave --- a transition will be needed by everybody - but it's nice to have your warning or 'heads up' about what to expect. So much 'new' - all at once - will surely be a bit stressful and confusing at first ? My excitement may help with newness or the honeymoon phase as it's called will certainly help some ? How many US expats are in the area that can be found to perhaps help a bit (?) until it gets to be 'comfortable' ?!? Having many rental choices will help with both the stress - and - the budget ! Has it always been this way - or - only since the virus ? Must not be a lot of expats moving there so far at least in 2024 from other countries ? More desirable places apparently in the eyes of many (?) as migration has exploded all over the planet !

Currently in the Philippines and, the retirement visa SSRV, is a little pricy for me. Also the tourist visitor visa in the Philippines is changing whereas 6 month visa extensions are a thing of the past. Basically the Philippine government have told there immigration to do their job to protect National security. Now they have introduced 2 month extensions only and, they are interviewing tourist as to why they want another 2 month extension. That's always been their job but, its the first time in my two years here I'm expecting an interview next time I need to extend. Its always been to my knowledge that I can extend my current tourist visa up to 36 months. Now I know, I can be roped into an interview I feel uneasy. Its not that I have broken any rules or, have any form but, those tourist that have been in the Philippines 12 months or, more are being asked, if they have made arrangements to leave. I'm thinking about going to Cambodia and, applying for a retirement visa. My question is do, I require a return ticket to the Philippines, if I am staying in Cambodia?
@DaveDoesCambodia
@DaveDoesCambodia 5 ай бұрын
@@davidkowal2041 No. There's no requirement from Cambodia to have a return ticket from any country when applying for a visa here. However, some airlines do require one so it's up to them. Be sure to check with the airline first! BTW, that really sucks the Philippines is doing that. Seems like they would WANT more foreigner money in the country.

In Chyaiphum Thailand with Thai wife. Be in Siem Reap in a couple of days. Long time subscriber. Perhaps our paths shall cross? Over all plan is to live both places. That getting lost thing... I have been taking morning walks every morning. I have been probing farther and farther and also branching out. As I'm certain is the case in Siem Reap, the village streets / roads / "soi's" were never laid out according to some master plan. I have referred to them as big plate of spaghetti. Just learning land marks and how the various roads interact with each other. My morning walks are now perhaps more than a mile. I have not yet pulled up Google maps. Keep on trucking! I do miss home. However, my other home for over 40 years is the Big Island of Hawaii. I have lived way back in the jungle there for more than 40 years. So...a really great place as well.

Could only imagine you could steer me in some correct directions. While we are at it... Looks like they are using the new airport now. I realize it is significantly farther away than the old one.
