How did you get 66MPG?
@Eugen-E4 ай бұрын
There are several youtube channels in Europe that measure the car acceleration times with GPS devices. This new Civic hybrid has the same 0-100km/h of 7.1 seconds as the Prius PHEV (Prime). That's about 6.8s 0-60mph or 6.5s with 1ft rollout. But after that the Prius will accelerate faster. So, at higher speeds (on a highway pull) Honda's hybrid system is slower accelerating than the Toyota hybrid system. That's also confirmed by the C&D tests and also the Throttle House channel drag racing video between the new Accord hybrid and the new Camry Hybrid.

@Eugen-E4 ай бұрын
@@destroyerofsimps6574No, it has 100% same powertrain. Same 143hp gas engine, same 181hp/232lb-ft electric motor, same transmission. Same thing with the CR-V. I don't know why in USA they say 200+ hp as long as the electric motor is the only thing that drives the wheels and it has 181hp (max hp in Europe). At full throttle the ICE doesn't drive the wheels directly so there is nothing driving the wheels except the 181hp electric motor (which by the way has 181hp between 5000 and 8000rpms which considering the gear ratios and the tire dimension is between like 40 to 70mph. After that the power goes down and the acceleration drops, which is also confirmed by real tests).

Honda's continued insistence on packaging hybrids only as "Premium" or "Sporty," rather than economical, is frustrating and misguided. Not to mention the Civic Hybrid uses normal-sized tires from the ICE versions, not hard-to-find 195/60R17 / 195/50R19s. This is tipping me in favour of the Civic long-term, unless tire manufacturers get their act together and get tires out for Prius latter half of this year. The added response of that Toyota eCVT will wear its narrow tires (esp OEM Toyos) faster as well, at first glance. Am rather disappointed w/ the mid-speed response of the Honda hybrid drivetrain tho, when it's supposed to replace the 1.5L turbo... which has no problem dropping V6 minivans or Tacomas at speed. We'll see when instrumented tests make it out from trusted sources -- there's a reason I have a 'no-first-yr-models' policy; could take 2 yrs for Honda to rethink its clutch pack lockup point... which tbh, a steels/fibers clutch pack in a hybrid drivetrain? *airteeth*

Great review Kirk! Just a point of clarification. I believe that all of the civics are not 19” wheels. They are 18”. The accord goes to 19” wheels. I have a 2021 sport se Accord with 19”. Both are low profile and absolutely horrible! They look great but they ride horrible and sound horrible! Honda needs to offer wheel options.

What data do you have that supports this conclusion? Most of these claims come from anecdotes which tell you nothing statistically significant. Oil dilution? No solid data on that. You can also find similar anecdotes of those same engines going several hundred thousand miles with few to no problems. I drove a Honda Accord to 350k miles before selling it and experienced few problems. I also do regular maintenance and upkeep my vehicles well. If you ask me, I’d say Hondas have been very reliable for me, but I can’t say much outside of my own experience. We simply don’t have very good data. A lot of the the data we do have are marketing bs, like JD Power. Consumer Reports is about the best you can get, but even they have flaws.

My friend she got a new Prius, and I had trouble getting in the passenger front seat because of the rakish windshield. I own a current Civic sedan and I have lots of room. Im looking forward to getting the Civic Hatch later this year when I turn in my lease. My parking structure has a tight space, and the Camry is a bit too big for my comfort, and I frankly miss having a hatchback.

If i know honda. They will add better red brakes a spoiler sunroof great stereo lsd great sounding exhaust sport suspension sport seats and 20 to 40 more horse power. And revive the civic si, and integra and prelude. Manuals will be available on the si prelude and integra a spec and potentially a dual clutch or auto and eawd on top trims. As only honda has the history and pride of hybrids and auto dual clutch manual transmissions. If they dont good bye to the si and Integra type a as special sport manual models. Honda for some reason refuses to add awd in any sedan or coupe or hatchback.

I love this. I really think in small and expensive cars that adding a turbocharged motor it’s not worth a trade-off from a reliability and maintenance standpoint. Naturally aspirated engine with an electric motor is a winning formula. better fuel, efficiency, and probably better reliability

I still don't know what sorcery Honda did on me but I'd rather buy the Civic hybrid vs Camry even knowing the latter has better specs and better value for the price. Hard to describe but Toyotas are just dull to drive 😢

The hybrid engine is setup with the Atkinson cycle. Probably will be tune differently for the non-hybrid version to get a bit more horsepower. Fuel economy (at least the european model) has been tested by people who actually know how to drive hybrids economically, and it is comparable with the Corolla Touring Sport 2.0L (18''). So about 60 / 50 / 40 mpg for city / mixed / highway. I think it's gonne be equivalent to a Corolla. Between the Civic and the Prius / Corolla, I would go with the Civic Touring (Hatchback) for sure. I have a Corolla Touring Sport, which I'm very happy with, so no bias. It's just better, but more expensive. I wish they made the Civic more like a Wagon, with a flatter roof at the back for headroom, but hey, still good. And yeah, forget the koreans (meh).

Between the civic and the prius, i would choose the civic. More space, the dash is a normal dash, comes with 18 " wheels instead of the 19" with really narrow tires that will be hard to find. It can be had with sunroof. The base prius comes with 17 wheels, but again that size is not common, hard to find.

Civic hybrid basically beats both Corolla and Prius, that Corolla is just super boring to drive, Civic hybrid is more sporty to drive while giving you good MPG, Prius in my opinion is ugly, that gauge cluster is not a good design, and it’s pretty expensive considering what you get with it. So just get Civic Hybrid hatch or sedan, or accord hybrid if you want all the tech features or Camry Hybrid. I would not touch any Hyundai or Kia hybrids.

@@Dan-p360 lol wow so combative. I’m guessing you are a bachelor cuz you’d run a woman off with all the analytical concern about a new car with a warranty giving you headaches. I do look for nice things but affordable things in other areas of my life: that’s just personal preference but I don’t think $40k for a machine with all the tech and luxury is a bad deal: but I’m also 28. I’m used to a world where $40 is the new $20. Nobody loves prices but cars are super important for those of us who live in states where there isn’t much public transit that I wouldn’t want to use anyway. I’m in Texas and then moved to Oklahoma and we all have cars or the poor just catch buses or walk or bike. But everyone I know has a car and thus a job. But you don’t care about that so I digress. There is no perfect machine. I think you are too worried about the minutiae of a car down to its cardiovascular system, just get an extended warranty if you are so concerned or I guess you will stay out of the market. But you get one life, maybe you don’t have to be so crusty. Do you have kids? Maybe you can mellow for them. You talk like an engineer. My family has owned dealerships since 1952, we don’t even get people with failures in cars with direct injection. lol I’m around these machines daily.
