To have the information reach more people more quickly and hopefully still trigger more interest in the book, as well as, plus educating more people now and putting a fire under their butts because you are proof that your reporting shows that gerrymandering and voter suppression was a republican plan of the past and still continues. You get the picture. We would have fail-safes built into the system. Like we should have a fail-safe that someone who had stolen our NATIONAL SECURITY SECRETS and SHARED them with foreign nationals wouldn't be able to run for president or ever lay eyes on another top secret document. And we would have a SCOTUS that could read long enough to get to the 14th amendment, article 3, and comprehend what it says. Yet, here we are.

Back in the 1960s, I was having a conversation with my Dad , Mom , and Brother , about voting . At one point , my dad told us he remembered when our churches priesthood members were sent through their wards , to tell each person of voting age , what political party to vote for . You vote for this party . And you vote for that party . My grandparents simply said , " ok " and then voted as they wanted to vote . And never said whom they actually voted for . You could do that then . Extremely difficult now .

Listening to this makes me think about all these students who are protesting about Gaza and not really understanding the situation there, and being ticked off at Biden for his support of Israel without understanding the history there, it seems that the students should be more worried about voting rights and do some protests against the GOP for that because the students that are protesting, are probably going to lose a lot of their rights if Donald Trump gets reelected and if the GOP continues this voter suppression agenda.

I agree with you. They blame President Biden for what Netanyahu is refusing to do is to stop the war and get hostages out cause Netanyahu wants to keep the war going until he defeats Hamas but he sends the innocent people down to south Rahal where they are planning to bomb next and kill all these innocent people and not bomb Gaza that's to the north. These people protesting should blame Netanyahu for not listening to the warning President Biden told him that he will with hold bombs if Netanyahu invades Rahal and Netanyahu did bomb there and these innocent people again have to move. Makes me wonder who told these Protesters different to go against President Biden. Its Israel government who they should blame.

We talk about winning the popular vote and how it is not reflected in the Electoral College. The Constitution was written to allow a larger and larger House of Representatives. But we have frozen the number of Representatives at 435 since 1910. Why? Because the party in charge during the census of 1920, said whoa, we can't allow the increase to states with all those urban voters. This was repeated in 1930. Why not increase the House to like 1000 Representatives? (Comparison UK has 630 in House of Commons. Germany has 734 members in the Bundestag).

America’s failure to treat personhood inclusively periodically precipitates economic, social, and political crises. Eventually, one of these crises will overlap with an existential challenge, like climate change, crippling our ability to rise to the challenge and that will be the end of American civilization. This is humanity’s tragedy, our failure of compassion is our doom.
@siouxrose77666 ай бұрын
I disagree with your premise. Societies have been governed by men of power, and in the West, white men of power for centuries. The empowered make God into their image and likeness which leads to patriarchy. This strong father figure concept has become entrenched in the collective consciousness to such an extent that for all the talk about democracy, most institutions are run top-down. And generally, it's wealth white males at the heads of these entities. Therefore, to take what the powerful do and attribute the fall-out to "our failure of compassion" is a frame that is inaccurate. It reminds me of the strained way that researchers into serial killers often leave out gender even though 90% of these crimes are executed by males. Until rights and privileges are more equitably distributed (and better wages to offset the ridiculous redistribution of wealth that's occurred over the past few decades), the notion of a universal WE or "our" flaws is a false frame. I recently listened to a George Carlan podcast as he decimated the notion of Democracy. Here, Ari and Marc point out that we do NOT have a one vote one person true Democracy. And women only were allowed to vote a bit over a century ago, with Black citizens not much earlier. Many people have compassion and act from it. But they lack power. THAT is the issue. And if you want to make compassion your focus, why not mention that Jesus, the Prince of Compassion is the opposite of what most MAGA republicans emulate. They are the party of cruelty towards those they construe as outside their tribe (or tent).

I am a Canadian who now lives in Australia. I have followed politics for most my adult life. Never understood the American form of how you vote, your system to count. In Canada it is first past the post, not a great system but everyone has some say in who wins, in. In Australia it is preferential system with two way to mark your ballot, 1) above the line. If no one receives 50%+ the the party you vote for place's where your vote goes. 2) below the line you place you vote in your order of preference of who you want to win

I can tell you when it (GOP antipathy to democracy) began, or at least when it was already well underway. In 1988 I participated as an intern for Republican Pete Wilson in a fundraiser for Project 90. Project 90 was an effort to take over state legislatures prior to 1990 so that congressional districts could be gerrymandered after the census.
@PerpetualAbidance6 ай бұрын
As mentioned above, GOP focus on controlling statehouses goes back at least to the 1980’s. As it was explained to me at the time, this was a generational effort to elect school board members, dog catchers, police chiefs, city council members, county supervisors, etc. to build the bench to take over statehouses so that they could control the redistricting process and gain an unfair (my word) advantage.

Well, this country was founded on freedom of religion and no taxation without representation. And if those immigrants are working, and most do, they are paying taxes and they are not being represented locally/in their state. We have needed an easier to navigate immigration system for decades. Most of the people coming to this country are leaving places that WE, as a nation, caused to become unstable.
