This message really hits home for me. My first wife took a big step toward destroying me. I was a wreck, emotionally, personally, and professionally for 8 years. The only thing that kept me going was she walked away from our two kids and I had to be strong for both of them. Dating was always chaos and drama because of my ex. Finally got stationed 800 miles away, was able to take my kids, and then met my current wife. We became an unstoppable team. My professional life reflected the great things that happened in my personal life. She supported me, I supported her. Our five kids (she had three) are all grown and very successful. I've since been able to retire and she has her own very successful accounting firm. It's amazing what a couple can do when they work together and support each other.

@@gregorysagegreene I'm sorry to hear that. But truth be told, I had given up on finding my wife at one point too. I'd had enough of dating women who had an agenda, or had more baggage than even I did with no idea how to manage themselves. My wife came to the table with her issues, don't get me wrong. But what was different was that she didn't let her own shit storm destroy her and she continued to work toward her goal of a MS in Accounting and her CPA while raising her own kids. Once we started dating we pooled our resources and both got our MS degrees. That wouldn't have happened for me and would have taken her a lot longer to finish than it did. I hope you DO find the right woman my friend. Somebody who is independent and strong, but empathetic and tender all at the same time. She's out there, I promise you. But you can't stop looking... Best of luck.

Dead on, I was with a woman for nearly 20 years who didn't understand my goals, and frankly didn't understand my thought process, she (and her mother) criticized me every step of the way, I was moderately successful in spite of it thankfully and am now with a woman who is head over heals for who I am and what I do, so far it's been the best time of my life, and I genuinely feel like I'm gaining traction and making more progress mentally and creatively than ever before. Thank you for sharing this as this feels identical to my life story right now. My mother in law is a fake religious zealot who worships Hollyweird and material things, and never accepted me for who I am. My wife second guesses every step or decision I make in collusion with her mother and pretends that she doesn't. The worst part is I'm a fairly healthy USMC veteran and everyone in her immediate family is overweight, has diabetes and have doubted me on everything regarding basic nutrition and fitness. We spent thousands on fertility treatments only for us to lose twins twice, once due to a miscarriage and the other 1 month to early, and then a single embryo didn't take. Since then, my wife has completely given up on the gym, continues to have poor dietary habits and has actually gotten fatter. She has a spoiled princess/victim mentality and it's not going away. I truly believe in for better and for worse, but 15 years of ZERO weight/health progress along with a beyond intrusive mother in law who's now on dialysis thrice a week, losing her hair and probably months away from losing a foot is really starting to take its toll on me. It's hard to not look at divorce as a sign of failure but I feel I'm running out of time and I really see no hope insight. Suicide seems like the easiest option, but I know deep down easy isn't always best. I'm turning 45 this year and realize my window to be a father is closing. Anybody with great advice or a great divorce attorney in AZ is greatly appreciated and welcomed. Thank you for your time.

I resonate with this so much. I was in a toxic relationship with a girl who was my former best friend for over a decade. We only dated for a year and it was hell. She was constantly causing drama and arguments related to her insecurities and random stuff. She displayed so many narcissistic traits. She took me away from my work to cause stupid drama, no respect for my time at all then would call me selfish for wasting her time when she started all the arguments. She hurt my business so much, but after we broke up I bounced back and I'm stronger than ever. If it was anyone else I would have left in a heartbeat, but she was my best friend for so long before we dated so that clouded my judgement. I am so lucky that we only dated for a year and nothing more, and that I was able to learn and bounce back. I really hope anyone going through a tough time is able to keep going until they see the light. No storm lasts forever, every storm passes.

@@tyarnold4088 I don't think you understand how bad it is for men now. I'm in my mid 30s and I cannot tell you how filled with rage I get when I see older men tell men my age and younger "we just haven't found the right one!". It's condescending and dismissive. Because of feminism from the 1960s and because of online dating, American women have been made into monsters. I've seen it, I've personally experienced it, and to have older men who are not living in the reality of the modern day world tell younger men nonsensical pseudo wisdom is like a civilian telling a war veteran what war is like. What you said to this guy, whether you understand it or not, was disrespectful and dismissive of his plight. In the military, we hate when civilians say to us "Thank you for your service", because it really doesn't mean anything and is dismissive of the realities of what we go through; it's the same thing with modern dating and marriage. It's not the men's fault. It's the women's fault and it's the men who allow women to get away with their modern unchecked behaviors. Older men (Boomers) who were young men in the 70s and 80s are so detached from the horrors of this world that it is infuriating because we who are now in our 30s and 40s are dealing with the mess the Boomer generation created and to add insult to injury, Boomer men molly-coddle women no matter how evil those women are and they berate men for not wanting to be forced to deal with this ingrained psychopathy in the modern western woman. And if you are a father who has daughters, odds are you are a contributing factor to why your daughters are as disgusting, classless, and evil as they are because fathers in the west raise their daughters by letting them get away with murder all because "She's my special little girl", "She's Daddys little princess". You have no idea how bad things really are.

I remember dating a girl who I liked and was committed to. Laying in bed one night she goes “if you ever got me pregnant, I’d leave you and take the kid. You never asked my permission to have my baby so you can’t have it.” I knew right there I was going to be gone. Pro tip to any guy wondering if he should continue with a woman: if you can look back at your life and If it is better now with her than it was without her, she’s a keeper. If it’s worse, bail while you can. Even the things like work that have nothing to do with her. If you had a better job before her but now are stuck in a dead end job with her, leave! She has something to do with that. Women can either boost or tear down your confidence subconsciously, they don’t even have to outright trying to. Do you have a chick your proud to call yours, or are you scared people will see you out with that pet iguana with lipstick on? Will she hit the gym with you or does she get out of breath going up stairs? Speaking from experience boys. It’s better to drop her and the “what could’ve been” than to sink deeper into her quicksand. Because when the ship of your life goes down the woman gets the life boat to safety while you drown. Stay safe out there.

As a woman, I completely agree. And a good reminder for me to become the kind of woman who can be supportive and loving of a great guy who’s constantly improving himself (cause I know I can’t make him do that, he has to want to do it). To add to what he’s saying though, in order to pick the right woman, you have to know the kind of man you want to be, even if you’re not that right now, and stand strongly by your values. You will naturally attract those on the same level as you. Without that inner work, you won’t even be able to recognize the one even if she’s plopped right in front of you. Same goes for the ladies!

Wow this hit me hard when I thought of my cousin being a homeless drug addict when he used to be a salesman making decent money and taking care of his wife and son. One afternoon day he was running behind a bus. That bus had his son and wife. The wife was headed towards another city to a new man. Everything went down hill for my cousin after that. This all happened in Mexico. He’s slowly deteriorating from a drug they call “foco”. I also have an uncle that from what I’ve heard cries when he drinks on holidays because he doesn’t see any of his family. His wife controls the relationship but she has started problems with everyone they come in contact with including all his family. Haven’t seen him in a while. Last I heard my cousins told me they got in a fight with their mother and now she drove them away as well. Pick your woman carefully my fellow men.

When I do it back to her she acts all offended and stops her crap, but just when I feel like it's changing up, she pokes and prods again here and there. Personally I have never, ever felt the desire to settle down, get married, or even have a long-term relationship, and I can't see that changing any time soon. I prefer to vent my physical desires by having casual sex and my emotional ones by surrounding myself with close, loyal friends. And honestly I'm just so glad I'm like that; I've lost count of the times I've seen my friends emotionally crippled by toxic women (there was actually a running joke in my friend group at university that we were the toxicity magnets, because like 5 of us ended up falling in love with women with diagnosed personality disorders- fortunately I wasn't one of them) or women who simply didn't care about them anything like how they cared about her, or sometimes simply by the frustration of desiring a long-term relationship and not being able to find one. I'm so glad that, for all my issues, that's one I'll simply never have to deal with. And if I ever were to change that and find a woman that I could actually envision spending the rest of my life with (I can't see it happening, but you never know), I'm gonna make damn sure that before we marry A. we date for long enough that any red flags will become more than visible (minimum 2 years, ideally longer), B. I get the absolute honest opinion of her from all my closest friends and family and C. we sign a fucking prenup, lol

Great advice. I'm in my late 50s and widowed. My late wife was a beautiful angel. Before we met, we both kissed a lot of frogs. She was married twice. I spent a total of 12-years in three live-in relationships that, thank God, never resulted in marriage. In the case of many other people, in many other cultures, and in different epochs, these relationships would have certainly have led to marriage. Again, thank God they did not. In different ways, I was betrayed by each of these three women. The criteria Pat enumerates in this video are all correct. But there is more. The cliche that "you will know" when you meet the right person is true. If you don't feel a depth of love for the woman that you have felt for no other--don't marry her. In order to know this, you have to have some experience. You don't have to wait until forty. But don't rush in. Don't mistake lust for love. And don't marry unless you "know."

Don't ever kid yourself. There are men that can destroy your whole life too. I got one that was pulling me down. I knew it but was afraid to leave because he was so violent. When I finally left him after 26yrs of marriage, I realized how much more I could have had in life with out him.

Vastly more risk to marry as a good man than a good woman. A good woman can still take a bad man to court and recoup some of cost of the failed marriage. A good man can't do anything to a bad woman in America, he'll get destroyed.

Who you marry may also be a reflection of yourself. So men need to have the right self image so they can have that complemented by the wife. We mostly go in blind and figure things out along the way, which may not be optimal.

Spot on with everything accept I disagree with waiting until your 30s or 40s to get married. I got married young. My husband and I were both 19. We are 35 today. We have grown together so much! We have the same values. I think it's hard to find someone with the exact same values when you don't grow together. At 30 or 40 you've already spent a couple decades growing by yourself, becoming set in your ways, getting used to thinking selfishly. It's really hard to make the transition at 30 or 40. Every marriage is a big adjustment. If you get married young you get all the hard work out of the way. If you get married at 30 or 40 you have all that hard work ahead of you when you should be focusing on success in your life. My husband is a very successful business man. He's doing a fine job of growing his business. I like to think that it has something to do with me supporting him through the hard times. He grew up with a narcissistic father. He thought he wasn't good enough. But I've been able to encourage him for all these years. It was all possible from getting married young.

Nothing but support and love for a woman who lied to have me locked in a psychiatric faculty, moved into my house then moved out with all my property and then filed a stalking order when I asked for my property back... Business gone. Kids/Family gone. Reputation gone. 32 months to the day, today, I am still locked away for complete lies from a woman I trusted and loved. The truth is stranger than fiction. 😵

Worst decision of my life I was called an abuser , both physically and mentally. All kind of bs that tarnished my reputation.. I should get a restraining order and press charges for defamation.
