I remember about 50 years ago investigating an accident. A mechanic was replacing the outer read dual tire on a “Greyhound” type bus. He stuck his head over the top of the tires to see what was not lining up. That is when the floor jack did just what your Jack did. In his case the result was fatal.

I cringe whenever i see someone working on anything sitting on just a jack.

I only use hydraulic jacks for lifting, then put jack stands in place, and lower onto them to hold the weight. Same issue with jack stands, sometimes, with near-flat tops, you gotta make sure they won't fail to grip/hold the load safely, either.

My dad is a retired 40 year Ironworker, one of his favorite H&S sayings when we are working on something is "never stick your hand where you wouldn't stick your pecker". So I had a good laugh when you busted out a variation of that

Nice mod. After 35 years of hotrodding and general stuff, I finally had a car slip off a jack - and for the same reason. Slipped off and the tie-rod landed on the jack with enough force to get bent like a pretzel, but it kept me from getting my head cracked by the bumper. Time to fire up the welder.

I made different saddles for my floor jack to drop in when the occasion calls. Best thing ever. Now no slipping off critical lifting spots.

I noticed that mod when you lifted the piece of equipment earlier to wiggle the wheels to show the bushings needed replacing. I was thinkin' mmm, I have a jack with the round piece missing. I need to do that. I thought it was just angle iron welded on. I'm glad to see the details. Thanks!

Because now u can't use it on anything except frame rails.try putting it under a diff or trans or control arm. U just limited the Jack's universal way of lifting cause he don't know what he's doing

I made something similar for my Jack when I had a Porsche 912. It was a flat plate with grabbers so it sits perfectly under the motor and doesn’t slip off

great idea. I'm sure you know but using a floor jack on uneven ground not a great idea either, jack cant roll as you lift and may slip from under the car/truck/machine etc.

Except you lose your height. It's better if you just make a separate piece-- and then you can bolt on your old flat fixture if you need to slide it under a low car or something. Keep the options open.

🤔🤔🤔Hmmmm. Making dyes for a log splitter/forge press, gave me an idea make different interchangeable saddles for the floor jack, all kinds of things I don't like about the factory ones.
