I was just talking to somebody about this episode a couple days ago on one of the Star Wars groups I’m in on Facebook. This is still one of my all-time favorite clone wars episodes; not only did we get to see the classic Separatist ass-kicking Yoda from the prequels, but we got to see something that the prequels didn’t really show, which was how well Yoda treated the clones and the respect he gave to every single one of them. All in all, the GAR did use them as disposable slaves (pretty much cannon fodder), and I personally believe that they deserved better, clone or otherwise… but Yoda still made sure to give them all the same respect he would give to fellow Jedi masters. TL;DR : Dave Filoni is a fucking genius

Being episode #1, it was obviously the 1st one most of us saw. I was immediately hooked. Centering on Grand Master Yoda and his "being" was a perfect choice for a starter episode. So well done, only thing I would've wanted to see in hindsight is a sort of "set up" for the entire situation in the galaxy at that moment, but they did that in subsequent episodes anyhow, so no real complaints.

My Top 3 are the Grom dance (hope they dance again in a future ep, but not in combat form; probably a competition or a prom event, I guess), the second Clawthorne witches' duel (Dragon Ball Z-esque, 'nuff said), and the Amity vs. Hunter duel [brought back so many memories of Avatar: The Last Airbender, particularly the action scenes involving Katara (same VA as Amity, by the way; the characters' pouches and spike weaponry were dead ringers) and Zuko]. Will be expecting the rest of S2 and the eventual series finale to be really epic (heck, the series finale is much more longer than the 90+ minutes long Sozin's Comet finale for A: TLA, so I'm I'm hyped despite the shortness of S3). Love truly is cute and meaningful, as previously shown in Kim Possible, A: TLA, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Your Name, and many other works... as long as they're not Romeo and Juliet. Yoda only gets playful and mischievous when dealing with children, the most playful and mischievous beings in the universe. He spoke that way to Luke when he first met him because he saw Luke as still being a child. Later, once Luke has been trained, he starts talking to him in a more straight forward and mature manner. He gets like that around the Clones because he recognizes them as being 13 to 15 years old despite their adult bodies, and is trying to teach them like he would teach a child.

One of my favorite Yoda scenes from TCW is in this episode. When Ventress is just talking loads of shit and whatnot.. and he just whisk her lightsabers from her hands and goes "Strong you are in the Dark Side of the force.... but not that strong." and then... just tosses them back to her, letting her know just how outclassed she is.

This episode made me fall in love with the CG and how I still see them aside from Fox and his group I like to see them as like US marines that guard embassies badasses in every right but only rarely is their skill truly shown.

This is so very true. It is epic that The Clone Wars got to really explain alot of the characters and even such concepts like the Force and the politics of The Galaxy with The Republic and Separatists among all of the other things . Simply speaking... Star Wars The Clone Wars is AMAZING!

Ambush is one of my favorite storylines in the show. It took me a long time to finally watch clone wars. Especially after the movie. I didn’t like Ashoka much and didn’t like that Anakin suddenly had this padawan that had never existed before. This story with Yoda made me give the show a shot though. I love all the Yoda focused arcs of the show, they did him right.

my headcannon has always been that prequel yoda is just his 'im at work, i need to be serious' mindset. and the goofy sense of humor and love of messing with people were always there, he just downplayed them around the council cause they're too used to him and he cant have any fun with them any more.
