In 2009, I came home from a deployment and my oldest son, who was 3 or 4 at the time, wouldn’t eat for almost 2 weeks... Being a father I was obviously concerned, so I asked him about it and his answer really hit me hard… He said, “Dad, if I eat I’ll grow up and if I grow up I’ll become a daddy. And if I become a daddy, I’ll have to leave my family.” My boys barely knew who I was and I couldn’t let them grow up without a father... I realized at that moment my family needed me a lot more than the Navy needed another SEAL. So I put in for retirement the next day… Back then I knew I wanted to be with my family more than anything, so I made changes in my life that allowed me to be at home. We all want more time to spend with the people we love or doing the things we love. That’s why I’m here to help! That's why I am giving you my top 3 training videos (for FREE) to help you learn how you can stay at home, and save time and money while you improve your shooting! Chris, you're a true warrior -- and obviously a great dad! I've been doing martial arts my entire life, but I'm new to shooting and have been working my way through Navy SEAL Shooting. It's already one of the best books I've ever read, not just on shooting, but IN GENERAL. I'm really taking my time and writing in the spaces that you provide at the end of each chapter. I've actually been dry training my one-handed shooting with my SIRT today, so it's great to see this video on it! Thank you for your service to our great country.

Good job. Lost my right arm 40+ years ago. In that time the 2 hardest things for me to master were grip and magazine loading and handling. I use the holster to establish my grip and mag changes but had to invent a tool to fill magazines. Again, you got a lot of the "one handed" stuff right.

Sorry you lost your arm. I have to give you much respect for being so good at working around that.

Great video Chris. As a pistol instructor I teach to cant the pistol. But only so much as to replicate holding the steering wheel of your car. I also ask my students why would someone shoot single handed. They always say, oh you might be injured. They don't consider that you might be holding a child, restraining someone or dragging your injured buddy to some cover while still dealing with a threat. I appreciate your videos and still learn a lot from them.

Or you might be doing some kind of competition where that's the requirement! Or... maybe someone challenges you to a duel? Seems unlikely but not completely impossible. Does anyone still have the special dueling pistols?

Oh my. When I first heard him say “maybe you’re texting,” the mental image I had in my head (until he said “just kidding”) of someone shooting with one hand while they don’t even look up from their phone while texting, was scary and hilarious.

i figured he meant youre holding your phone, something happened, and you didnt have enough time to put the gun away

Paralyzed in the line of duty thirty years ago, full time wheelchair user. I appreciate you addressing the aspect of shooting one handed. All I would add is that using a barricade as rest is also helpful. Not exactly "bench rest" per say but some sort of contact with a wall or table helps stability. If my weak side contacts a wall, it still helps strong side stability. The wheelchair itself isn't really a great platform but it depends on a person's trunk stability. A person paralyzed at t-10 has more stability than a person paralyzed at t-2.

I'm here because I have Only 1 hand. Practice has made me accurate at home defense range, but you can always get better. S&W 40 isnt the best for most but with practice with a slight cant you cant learn to get a tight group in no time.
@RangerCaptain11A6 жыл бұрын
keeping your stance exactly the same uses the muscle memory you trained and ingrained, and lets you get the flash sight picture so you can shoot at closer distances quickly. in a confrontation, its center of mass, not target shooting. you didn't mention what you do with the recoil and follow up shots.
@HarryOrenstein6 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, If you advise turning your thumb up for single handed shooting, why not create this as "a habit" for all shooting? What are the disadvantages, if any, for thumbs-up on regular (2-handed grip) shooting? Thanks H
@danielg196 жыл бұрын
The only thing I can't agree with is that you said you must shuffle or switch your feet. Yes it's the best option but not absolutely necessary. It's not any different than boxing. You can still put just as much forward pressure into that stance. It's like throwing a weak side straight jab while standing orthodox. Some people can do that very effectively.
@johnch14v666 жыл бұрын
Good information.

Maybe you are texting, or driving. LOL This will be my reference video when I start training one handed techniques. Switching your feet is something I've never thought of before. Someone pointed out that historically you needed one hand for the reins! For my own part it's mostly "target" shooting with specialized hand guns, things that have "Target" in the name! So I'm not thinking about combat so much as The Olympics, so to speak. Something that needs concentration and practice and beautiful specialized hardware. Something like archery or golf. Shooting a pistol one-handed, standing seems almost impossible at first. I'm always surprised when it DOES work!

QUESTION: You mentioned raising / elevating your thumb. Wouldn't that put it into risk of interfering with the slide or being injured by the slide?
@AOMartialArts4 жыл бұрын
Nah. Grab a handgun and try it. You only have to raise the thumb a bit and you'll feel your knuckle press against the frame. Gives you extra pressure for control, does not interfere with the slide at all.

Fairbairn and Sykes have quite a bit to say on this.... combat shooting should be one-handed anyway.

I'm fairly new to shooting pistols and have been struggling with two hands, I keep pulling to the left..... I don't know why I did it but I tried with one hand today and scored a bull. I thought it was a fluke but I did it again, and again !.....................From now on I'm sticking with what works.
@lilwaynejrify3 жыл бұрын
When pulling the trigger, try to ‘center’ out the force applied to pull the trigger. Try positioning the middle of the trigger differently when gripping the gun. Squeeze too hard and you pull to that direction probably

You' don't know anything about a real gun fight. You're teaching your audience to get killed. Here in America. When a situation evolves where you are facing it person with a drawn firearm. . There's a split second fire fight. Do or die.. Unless you are the aggressor... I've been in these situations and if I had followed your instructions I would be DEAD.
