What a great tutorial! It took me a long time to get my gel polish to come out this well. I always use pH Bond too (it’s a dehydrator), it helps so much. I only use primer for nail extensions. For me, the bunching happens when I put the gel on too thick. Better 3 thin coats than 2 thicker coats with bunching.

I’m so glad you said you have had your base coat pull away!!! I had that problem too and have actually quit using a base coat because it did that and had to cure one at a time. I’m going to try OPI base coat. Great tips!

That really helped to just get some basics. A lot of tutorials assume you know what everything is, as someone who hasn't really done my nails properly before it really helped.

Yes, like a nail prep, a primer etc. and I’m like… I have a base coat and that’s it, I also don’t want to invest in anything before I know whether I like it or not so this video is great!

I had a book that suggested the most natural nail tip echos your nail bed - my nail bed is “squoval”, sort of a softly square-cornered oval. When I shape the edge of my nail to this shape it really does look nice.

I agree completely with getting bored of the colors. The way I have combated that well still using gel is to use a thermal color changing gel. At least you have two colors and they change back and forth depending on the temperature of your fingers.

@katie57132 жыл бұрын
1. Try painting with the tip of your nail pointed down so if the gel flows it flows away from your cuticles. 2. Paint the center of your nail and only go up to about 2 mm from the cuticle. Then wipe the excess gel from your brush and "cut in" to finish the edges so the edges are thin and wont flow. 3. Use a nice bright light and check the edges before you cure. Clean up with an orange stick or something, like she did in the video if there is any gel on the skin.

If your gel isn't curing on the sides of your nails... It isn't b/c of thick gel. You aren't supposed to hold your fingers together in the lamp, and that's a weaksauce lamp.

@tomjones21572 жыл бұрын
Your bottom layers are under cured. Try applying thinner layers and either hoping the cure time or buying a better lamp. One of those 48W dual cure ones usually does the trick. Preferably with a metal reflective base as that bounces light around and cures the sides better.

Welcome back and BIG CONGRATS!! 💐 I so love the finish and longevity of gel, but my nail beds can’t tolerate the light. It got so bad that it hurt to wash my hair, and they became very discolored as they turned an unattractive shade of dark yellow. This was a few yrs ago, so do you think the technology of the lighting may have changed since then? I always thought they bulbs were the same, and it never occurred to me to ask whether they were led or not. Any advice? Also YOU ROCK!!! 🤓
