thanks for good video. i’m in a dilemma because of which smoothstar model should i get. i know you have both ‘Toledo 77’ and ‘Holy Toledo’. If the length of the decks are same, which model do you prefer?? (compare between 77’s deep concave and Holy’s flat concave) My height is 177cm.
@YeWLayton3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you liked it! The Holy Toledo is 33" and the 77 is 34". I prefer the 77 as I'm 6'2" tall, I like that extra inch. There's not that much difference in the concave I find. Both boards are gonna allow you to perform the same manoeuvres on them, but given your height, maybe go the 33" Holy Toledo, it will be a bit lighter than the 34", as the 34" also has a slightly longer back truck. Whether you go an inch longer or smaller, it's not going affect what you can or cant do. So at the end of the day I guess it really comes down to what graphic you like better on the board. Hope this helps! YEW

Great tutorial! Please make one about the drop on a bowl!
@YeWLayton3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! can do! Mean time here's an explanation from my Concrete Waves video: Yo! Drops ins are a tricky one on surfskates, cause like you said, the front truck is so wobbly. When approaching a drop in, make sure your foot placement is correct - specifically your front foot. You don't want it too far forward, cause you'll like nose dive; and having it too far back, you'll fall backwards. A general rule of thumb is to stand shoulder width apart - I like to place my front foot around the bolts of the front truck (I ride the Smoothstar 34" Filipe Pro Model and am 6'2" tall for reference). Watching myself do it at 4:10 when I drop in I compress my knees about half way, dropping down the vert, then full compress when I ride out and straighten out of that last little bit where the vertical of the ramp meets the horizontal of the floor. I also noticed that my arms throw up a bit ( I don't know why, just natural instinct I guess to help me balance out on the drop in) so maybe give that a go too and see if it helps.

@@YeWLayton Thank you for the tips! I'm buying a new shape with bigger concave and nose to start to ride on parks and bowls. Meanwhile i'm improving my manoeuvre skills on flat and little hills. Aloha!

Hey there, amazing tutorials as always. I have a question for you. Why would you not replace the deck with a traditional skateboard deck with kickers?
@YeWLayton3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Because a traditional skate deck is a lot skinnier and not as long as a Smoothstar deck and you would have to recalculate the wheel base by drilling new holes in the skate deck. You could if you wanted, but I prefer the shape and feel of a Smoothstar deck
