Loving the videos. Really helpful! I did have to comment about your definition of a p value and what it means though (much as it pains me lol).. A p value is the provability of observing an extreme result given the null hypothesis is true :D

Awesome video per usual! Though I'm not sure I'm understanding the 'task from the instructions part' of further research - as in, is editing the instructions more important to the success than the redesign? As in, should we experiment with other ways to fill out the form vs the bubbles? Thanks so much! Also, not sure if you've done it already, but it might be a cool if you explained the most common stats you use for analyzing UX research and why?
@zerotoux5 жыл бұрын
Ahh good call out! What I mean is that we need to visually distinguish the instructions section from the voting section, and not to mix them up in the same column. As for other ways to fill out the form, that could be another study! I know the California ballot is to fill in an arrow vs. filling in a bubble, and the Canada ballot is a HUGE circle that you mark and others... Sure! I'll have some stats videos coming up :)
@Phoca_Vitulina5 жыл бұрын
@@zerotoux Oh okay, thanks for clearing that up! That makes total sense that from the data, they say that instructions should be separated from the voting task, but how it's done visually is up for interpretation by the designers! :) Thanks again! Awesome, looking forward!

Hi Kevin, this series has been really helpful for me so far. Question, for the qualitative portion and affinity diagram did you take notes or voice record during the interviews?
@zerotoux2 жыл бұрын
Hi Loree! Thank you and glad you found it helpful. Yes, always take notes! And if you cannot, get someone else to. As you saw in part 4, I recorded the participants. Some did not want their face recorded so I just recorded their hands. Voice is fine, too.
@zerotoux2 жыл бұрын
Affinity diagram I don't record, but you can. It's all up to you and how much visibility you want your stakeholders to have.

Great video Kevin! Just a question- are product recommendations similar to ‘how might we’ statements? Cause essentially they both are open ended.
@zerotoux4 жыл бұрын
Very similar but not quite! You could use them the same way, but "how might we's" are usually used for brainstorming solutions broadly, while recommendations might be more pointed.

Hey Kevin so I am thinking about doing a research project on parking spaces, so here is my situation my school is building a new dorm building for Fall 2021.The results of this is that the design of this dorm is taking up so much parking spaces and people living on campus are complaining.Do you think this is a good research project and plus how would I do a usability testing of this?
@zerotoux5 жыл бұрын
What do you want to learn from this research? And let's say you did the research and found some insights, would you go to the school board and tell them to make changes?
@anthonyduong635 жыл бұрын
@@zerotoux What I want to learn from this research is how the effect of new building can affect the scarcity of parking spaces in big college campuses and how it pertain to the students living on campus, For me going to a school board I would interview them first.To be honest Kevin I hope I am doing this right.
@zerotoux5 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyduong63 for the first question I think you can utilize literature research - look at prior urban planning studies, there has been a ton of research done on this I believe, unless there's something super specific. For how students feel, I think you could interview drivers and students. I think you'll get different perspectives. Some may want the housing because they don't drive, and others, like you mentioned, may drive and not want the building because they commute. I'm not sure how you can usability test this. What do you hope to get out of the study? Because it sounds like you're going to find what you're expecting to find.
@anthonyduong635 жыл бұрын
@@zerotoux You see Kevin that's the thing I have no idea how to do a usability testing on this, What I am hoping to get out of this study is to find out the conflict between parking spaces and the students, but hopefully I can get more insights. I guess what I can do is to redesign the layer of the new dorms and add parking spaces or to be honest I really have no idea.
@charlietheunicorn54625 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyduong63 let's think through this: what is a usability test used for? Your research question does not lend itself to a usability test, so we should think of a different method. If it's how buildings affect parking and subsequent lifestyle, there has been literature on this. We should also try to reframe your question, because if you're looking for conflict, you're gonna find it (bias). Again, if you only interview people who drive, you're going to find skewed data because obviously they need parking. Careful of bias here. If you're looking to redesign, what will you base it on? We cannot just sketch out what we think will be better without the data, and that specific question is less UX focused than it is urban planning, which you may want to talk to an architectural designer about. How it affects lifestyle of students - well maybe you can interview people about what they expect in a new building and whatnot

Why didn't you add something like "did you leave this question blank intentionally?" for those who didn't vote for senators? I guess some people could just have skipped the question not because they didn't see it, but because they simply didn't want to answer.
@zerotoux4 жыл бұрын
That's a great suggestion too! That would certainly be a great option to add to the ballots. Maybe the option "abstain from voting" can be a simple fix! Certainly something thy should consider in the future. The reason I didn't add more solutions was to address the hypothesis that the news reporters mentioned, whether it was because the contest was below the instructions or not.
