For Retropie users who may be wondering; this DOES also back up your roms, input settings, save states, etc! And if you're doing this to move up to a bigger SD card, make sure that, after writing the image to the bigger card and putting it into your Pi, you also go into Raspi-Config > Advanced Options > Expand File System. Otherwise Retropie will still think you're using the smaller SD card from the image, and won't recognize the extra space on the bigger card! Awesome video dude, thanks! 😁🤟

@OfficialChaseBrogan Жыл бұрын
Hey there, not entirely sure. Did you use the same type of sd card? Even though it may be the same posted capacity different brands can have different actual capacity on them. If you went over the amount of space available it could cause issues like this. For example a sandisk 256gb card doesn't have the exact same capacity as a samsung 256gb card. They are generally close but not exact.
@snho723 Жыл бұрын

I did the default format on the Samsung sd and cleared it out, planning on just trying to write it again but now I’m getting an “access denied” error message. So I’m at a real loss now. I’m guessing it might have something to do with the original sd card having two drives on it? It has a D and an E drive. The D is labeled emulac and the E is labeled games. Hello, me again. I usedmy SD card the other day in my retropie device and it worked just fine. After I came home that evening, I tried it again, but it would not read my card. I had put it in so that I could finally set up my Wi-Fi after I got my keyboard figured out as I mentioned in your other video, but I was given the repetitive flashing green light so it was not reading upon boot. I had previously written the image to my SD card, and then thought to copy the files over to an external hard drive just in case the SD card failed. Not wanting to deal with any boot issues, tonight I went to rewrite the card and my Windows computer just died, and I don't believe the writing process had finished, although it may have as I was nearly done. Would I simply be able to format the card once again and then pull those previously saved files from my external hard drive over onto the SD card? It's a $512 gig image, but it's telling me that it's only 50 something megabytes? I had noticed that previously as well, does it expand once it's in the machine? Thanks for any help, I'm also in search of a new computer if you have any recommendations. I was previously using a 2007 HP pavilion DV9000 running Windows Vista so it's had a good run, looking for something with a disc drive if they still make those, or at least one that could support an external one. I have a lot of CDs and DVDs as well. I'd previously bought in a Google chromebook, but that's also at the end of its life for updates, and I'm not happy with that ecosystem simply because everything is so ephemeral. I am not looking to buy a mac. Again, thanks for all the help you've given so far.

Another issue I have ran into when copying say a 32gb image to another 32gb card, that the card will fail at the end of the process, saying there is not enough room on the card even though the card is a blank card....could this be because I formatted the card first? any thoughts....
@OfficialChaseBrogan2 жыл бұрын
Could be but is it the exact same card? Some different branded cards have different amounts of space available. If you put a 32gb card in you won't find a full 32gb of space they're never 100% accurate.
@te58442 жыл бұрын
@@OfficialChaseBrogan Yes same exact card ordered from amazon (genuine). i can't remember but think the problem arose when I formatted a larger card for one of your bigger collections ( can't format fat 32 thru the win32 disk manager on larger than 32gb cards) and I was wanting to make sure raspberry pie could read the card. So went with Guiformat to format it to fat32.. Are you saying that win32 will automatically format a new card to what the image is formatted at, even though it can't "blank format" the larger card ahead of time? if thats the case, it may be where the problem arose, taking up more space when I pre formatted...

@te58442 жыл бұрын
@@OfficialChaseBrogan I have ran into this exact same thing, same brand card (sandisk) same exact size and it fails due to there not being enough room on the card....my question is or thought is...does this happen because IF you choose to re-format the card before doing this process, it somehow takes up to much room on the card that a full 32GB image will then not fit? I have looked at the size of the image used and it comes in just below the card size....so something is taking up to much room....

I think the 32 took about 45 min or so start to finish. Pretty quick. 256gb takes like 5 hours. 512 is half a day. 8tb probably 3 weeks. Haha jk but maybe not 😂. Honestly I have no idea. That's a massive image to backup.

Worked good for me :) Upgraded my Retropie from a 64GB card to a 128GB card using this video's method, and everything was there; roms, save states, themes, etc. You do need to go into Raspi-Config afterwards and Expand the File System though, otherwise Retropie thinks you're still using the smaller card that was initially imaged.
