How to easily balance a scooter/moped/motorcycle tire by hand. You can get it very good by using this method, but of course there is nothing like a machine doing it. It is a good idea to apply the weight you need in equal amounts to each side of the rim at the location.

This proves one doesn't need expensive rigs to do this job. 👍 I would possibly try moving the tyre around on the rim to reduce the required weight.

This "Simple Method" works just fine. Especially if you have a bouncing/vibration when you ride. There are more complex balancing methods(weights applied to each side of the rim, but this serves it purpose well. Thanks

3/8 size diameter or 9.5mm metal rod diameter. If you have a micrometer - measure in the inner diameter of the bearing - then you'll know

Thanks for the video. I just use the front axle off the scooter and make a rig based on that, since the front wheel also has bearings.

wow, thanks for that :-), i didnt think it was that easy. Ive used that method for balancing mower blades after re-grinding the edges, but i allways thought wheel balancing was more complex. Smashing tutorial :-)

I bought my gy6 scooter new & thought that everything was balanced. Evidently not I've only done 10,000 & the rear needs replacing. You can actually see it's bald about a third of it. I never realised that balancing a tyre could be that simple. With reference to serialcomplexity message buying dynabeads is a good idea unless you live in the UK, as they're hard to come by unless you import them. I was quoted $25 p&p. Great video, thanks for the tip.

That is brilliant. My racing 50cc Honda dio does 0-70MPH in 4 seconds. I have never balanced the tires before. Can Les Swab balance 10 inch moped wheels? thanks and great Video. 5 stars***** RH DSD

So did you glue something on the wheel to balance it in the end or how did you stick the nut onto the wheel? I am sure the tape fell off while you rode once.

Very good tutorial ONLY if you have an old scooter/bike and you want to save money. For the people who care about their valuable vehicles, I highly suggest to go to a professional tyre shop and do the balancing with an electronic machine.
@Visionery1

Many "professional tyre shops" cannot balance scooter wheels. Also, one finds dozens of simple static balancing rigs at motorcycle race tracks, but no electronic machines, it makes one wonder if electronic machines are really better, especially given the speeds these guys do.
@billadmond9450
@billadmond9450 4 ай бұрын
@@Visionery1 What you said is not true. There are professional tyre shops but they don't have the right machines that modern motorbikes and scooters require. And even the cheapest 125cc scooter reaches 100Km/h speed so balancing the tyre is very important. But there are also too many diy trolls who believe they can change a tyre and save money but unfortunately that is not the case.

@@billadmond9450 what I said here, "many "professional tyre shops" cannot balance scooter wheels." is exactly what you said here, "There are professional tyre shops but they don't have the right machines that modern motorbikes and scooters require." By "cannot" I meant they do not have the equipment.

Damn, i thought this was for a scooter, not a CHooter. Have you tried the same technique with just the rim (without the tire)? CHooters (i.e. chinese scooters) are notorious for having crap.. *cough* *cough*..unbalanced rims. Nonetheless, it was a informative and useful - regardless of the make/model of a scooter. I appreciate your help, and the time you spent making this. -Adam

Your right about Chinese scooters having unbalanced rims, but Chinese quality has come a long way from years ago. Still no Honda/Kawasaki/Yamaha, but I cannot complain. My scooter still runs great 4 years later(I have had minor stuff go wrong), and it still looks like new. I also take 100 mile RT's. Thanks For Watching! Be sure to check out my gy6 playlist as well.

+electronicsNmore I''ve had mine for 12 years (6,836 miles), and it still runs like a fucking Olympian. Let me know how yours turns out in 8 years. Balancing a wheel is a different story. I balanced my wheel, and used your video to do so.....Try a Yamaha though.

I already rode almost 11,000 miles in 4 years. Not bad for a $950.00 scooter. If it blew up tomorrow, I already got my money's worth, not to mention all the money I saved in gas.

I have a 250cc Chinese scooter. My tire size is 130/60/13 both front and back. Can I change the size to 150/60/13? Also can I get a 14inch front tire instead of the 13"?
@electronicsNmore
@electronicsNmore 10 жыл бұрын
Not sure. The tire may be too large in diameter and hit the fender, and/or other parts of the scooter. Your tire change will also effect the speedometer reading, You will be going faster than the speedometer says, but in the case of Chinese scooters, many already have inaccurate speedometers.
@Arcona
@Arcona 10 жыл бұрын
electronicsnmore has it a bit wrong.a 150 would give you a wider tyre but no bigger. the first number is how wide it is.. so a 150 is too wide for your 130 rim. the 60 is the percentage of how tall the sides are by comparison to the width. so the normal tyre is 60% as tall as the tyre is wide. so if you want bigger tyres you want something that it still 130 wide, and still for a 13" rim. but maybe 70% or 80% hight. though it will mess up your speedo. and your gearing slightly
@electronicsNmore
@electronicsNmore 10 жыл бұрын
I don't have it wrong. Yes, 150 is wider, but he was also asking about using a larger tire as well(14"), not just wider.
@albirdie1630
@albirdie1630 2 жыл бұрын
@@electronicsNmore if it's wider with 60% it's automatically larger, that is with a bigger diameter and circumference, so electronics got it right... btw it's simple math and one has to measure the space around existent wheel and then you can calculate how big of a tyre you can put on your bike... on a car you can manipulate width but with same or similar diameter cause there are many heights variation (40,45,50...80) but on a scooter there are rarely more than 2 so it's not so easy...
