The original was written in Ancient Greek and naturally languages change over time (its been a good 1700 odd years), there isn't exactly a huge amount of speakers of Ancient Greek (at least compared to active languages or modern Greek) so there's a possibility that you can get multiple different interpretations of one piece of work, depending on the person translating. Many words may have multiple meanings or contextual definitions which can make a translation of a seemingly simple sentence, pretty complicated. It's one of the reasons as to why the Bible has so many different versions and interpretations all of which have probably strayed pretty far from the original (the other main reason being Papal/patriarch monopoly on translating the original texts to justify... well... themselves). In any case my copy of Meditations has the translation you quoted, so who knows. Very insightful stuff either way.

I've been going through a lot this month, a break up, relisation of something I did in the relationship that was horrible and making mistakes trying to talk to my ex and fixing what I did by trying and trying to talk to her about it and her eventually taking a screenshot of the conversation, possibly telling our friendgroup about it and them now ignoring me, while I also just wanted to be friends with my ex. This is the first day me feeling ignored and feeling alone and scared for the future, but this video is calming my nerves and really making me realize what I'd like to study and meditate on, virtue, I want to be able to calmly accept the things I can't control, like my exes actions and move on with experience and desire to become stronger as an indevitual and just really find myself and I want to say thank you Felix for helping me feel like everything around me is not crumbling and helping me feel not so defeated, I have loved you since the Amnesia days and honestly coming back to this video and watching it in a hard time in my life gives me an even bigger reason why I love you and would like to meet you and hopefully talk to you about how to be happy, and with that sayd just thank you so much

I’m a Philosophy major and I utilized stoic philosophy in my thesis so I’m quite familiar with the subject, and I’m very pleased with this video. The way Pewdiepie explained it is faithful to the academic material, which shows that he didn’t get his info from the pop, trendy, and diluted stoicism of many books. This video captures the gist of Stoicism better than other philosophy oriented channels (the irony). The first 2 minutes is so meaty that it shows that Pewdiepie really did his research on the subject. I have nothing but praise, this is an excellent primer to Stoicism. Tho a minor correction is that we do have many surviving works from Epictetus (such as the enchiridion and his discourses). I think what pewds meant was that we don’t have surviving works from Zeno of Citium, who is the founder of the stoic school.

I’ve been watching Pewds since i was 13, I’m now 21. When i was about 14 i discovered buddhism when i went to Thailand for the first time and used to continually go to the library and study it.
