I struggle with being present, I feel like I am constantly thinking about my future, dreaming about it & how I want it to be while also thinking about my past how can I change my doings etc. This talk made me realize that I am not alone & being present is a conscious act & I am going to try to be better at it

How to be more present? I have one. Less social media and worrying about putting the perfect image just so you get a “like” and tie your self worth to the “likes”. Less scrolling on social media. But mostly not tying your self worth to it. Poor young kids. I am a young mom and I would hate it if my kids grow up addicted to social media. I hope they will do their thing in life. Get out and go for a hike without worrying about how to pose for pictures constantly. And let’s not forget to add that many people buy fake likes/comments on social media. Then other young kids think something is not right with them because the other kids are getting more likes then they are. Oh my word.

yeh but it's some people's modern day's profession and job to be present on social media and provide people with good content!

Pstvt “Some people” and even they need good boundaries and good monitoring of their inner self. Otherwise it raises personality disorders with entitled fake facades. (Who can afford to buy more fake likes and views)

I do not understand what you are saying, because you seems to object social media (and maybe the internet, because social media is on the internet) than why are you here, yourself? Am I missing something in your comment?
@dj912sent9
@dj912sent9 6 жыл бұрын
Robinw1445 Yes, you are missing something. No one is saying the internet is bad. In fact it was referring to social media addiction and its negative effects. Big difference. It is in fact odd that you understood it as such. I am guessing English is not your primary language.

Hi Mimi, this is an important topic to me. I hate when people go out for dinner (or simply they are having dinner at home) and they start chatting or checking their phone. This is something I always noticed, expecially in the new generations, so I really think that this kind of videos are so much important to sensitize people! GREAT VIDEO

I have missed your sit down videos, Mimi. These are my favorite. I have a question for you... Have you ever gone to therapy or counseling and if so what was your experience like? Did you find it helpful? I have been struggling for a while with feeling like life is meaningless. Like there is no purpose to it. And, I don't know how to get out of that mindset. I used to have dreams and goals when I was younger, but then my 20s shattered all of that with its harsh, unidealistic (is that I word?? lol) reality. I have recently begun going back to school to pursue a new journey of becoming a nurse but am having a hard time finding the motivation and believing in myself like I did when I was younger. Anyway, I believe you and I are about the same age and wish that I had a friend in my life like you with your heart and your mindset. It is a rare thing to find.

I struggle with being present all the time too. It has caused me to underperform where I could have given my best. I have come a long way from what I used to be. I wake up every morning determined to pay more attention to what I do. 'Screen time' has helped me spend less time on my phone and become more productive. It was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this video's title. Meditating has honestly been gruelling for me. I love doing Yoga and being mindful during practice, but to sit down and meditate I have had no patience. This video, however has motivated me to not give up. So, thank you. You are wonderful and highly inspiring. Lots and lots of love to you and your beautiful family Mimi!

I try and be present all the time as it helps me with my mental disorder, I hardly ever use my mobile phone but when I do I do it when am on my own and never when am with someone, this subject is very much a Buddhist way and I love it, I learnt a lot about Buddhism and it's the only thing that has helped my mind, your right thinking of the past will cause depression and thinking of the future will cause anxiety so the present is key to a happy life.

THANK YOU. This is such a valuable reminder. ❤✨ I have just started university, moved to another country, all on my own. There are so many things I feel like I need to think about right now - studying, classes, cooking, shopping, laundry, making new friends, extra activities not to go crazy... and it all piles up in my mind. But when I started watching your video, I stopped it. I put away all my notebooks, planners, pens, cleared the desk. I played the video again, closed my eyes, and listened into what you have to share and how I feel about it. And it helped - such a simple concept, but so powerful. Thank you! If anyone has any advice (or simple budget-friendly dinner recipes 😉), please share 🙏.

Great point , Mimi, and so very well said! I was mystified for a long time why I’m so bad at time management and whether I’m hopeless . Just recently I concluded that the only cause is my multitasking and burning desire to split myself in 10 to be on the same page with the modern age. Now I’m convinced that multitasking is in fact the worst you can do. It’s destructing in all aspects! Fantastic topic, Mimi , thank you!

Funny thing, is that we cannot multitask. We think we are multitasking but we are what we are really doing is going back-and-forth quickly between tasks which is exhausting. Concentrating on one thing at a time until completion is the best way to go. But our lives have become so busy, and our time is so limited that we frantically try to do things simultaneously. Meditation is a great tool, as is organization, planning, and getting up early to get things done.

I definitely practice one task at a time every day. Every morning , I spend my 20-30 minute drive to work in complete silence. I don’t listen to the radio. I have found it to be a time where I can think about my day and my tasks for the day. It’s almost like meditating and has really increased my productivity and positivity because I can set the tone for my entire day. I have 2 little ones so this time by myself is not only great for my mental health but necessary!

I totally agree with you! Being present is the greatest gift one can have. It’s so important for us to essentially just live every second of our lives in the moment and I think we as a generation are struggling with this immensely due to all this technology being implemented into our lives! Technology nowadays is most of the time so unnecessary for us when used as an escape and only causes us to be out of line with the present. Despite its great benefits we really need to reduce it in our lives and focus on the moment and BE in the moment. I think meditation is a great idea! Personally what I try to do is pray. Being a Muslim we must pray 5 times a day and doing this helps to be present and to be grateful which is so so important. Thank you Mimi for raising this subject because it’s so vital for every single person in this world. 💗

Everything you say is so right Mimi. I always have my phone on silent all the time, and when meeting someone it stays in my bag. There is nothing more annoying than having a conversation with someone and they are only half listening, you may as well be not there. Which is why I would never do that to someone else. Life has become so stressful because people are constantly checking into social media to document their life rather than living their life. Sitting face to face with someone and really enjoying the conversation, beats all the social media sites. Always enjoy your videos.x 😄

Hi Mimi, Thank you so much for this. Just this past weekend, I felt that I couldn't enjoy my weekend - aka time off work - with my boyfriend because I kept on telling him, "I don't feel present". I was struggling so hard and basically had a melt down. My brain was thinking about work non-stop or my to-do lists. I am 100% going to try avoid multi tasking as you mentioned - you word everything so well and in such a positive way. This helped me a lot. @MimiIkonn You are a valuable friend to have Mimi, to care and listen to the needs of others takes a caring heart and you most definitely have one. Being present with each moment of the day is something I want to be, my mind is full of things I want to do, it’s funny because people that visit my home think my organization is in order because I am a nest freak, if they could look inside my head they would think I am the worlds worst hoarder, like a garbage hoarder. I believe I am a bad listener because of the list of projects I want to do but constantly procrastinate and let them pile up in my brain, sorry I hope this message didn’t go off topic 😜 I LOVE the blue top you are wearing it’s so Pretty ♥️

Nice video Mimi. Sometimes, I have a hard time being present with two children (ages 2 months and 2 years). One thing I’ve found to be helpful is to choose quality time with 1 instead of distracted time with both. For example: while my baby is sleeping, I’ll play with my toddler. When I need to change or bathe the baby, I’ll try to set my 2 year old up with a short independent project/task. Of course I try to include both together whenever possible, but these ages are tricky to find a balance!

There was a time when I was being consumed by instagram. My boyfriend is a photographer and to spread his work I was posting every day, at a specific time, always trying to find the best hashtags, always tagging pages that could share our work, always trying to think of different captions, spending hours liking, comenting and following other pages, participating in engagement groups... It was mentally exhausting and one day I just had to stop. I felt so overwhelmed and I decided that it was being harmful to my mental health. Nowadays, I post whenever I feel like, I only follow the pages that I'm actually interested in, and I really try not to spend too much time on the app. I finally feel free. I pick up my phone a lot less and it makes me feel just free and happy. This is a much needed video because it's a topic that I feel hasn't been explored as much as it needs to be. I love your channel, and your tips in how to live life, because even though no one is perfect, I truly believe you have the right mindset to live a happy and fulfilling life and that's all I want for myself as well. You've helped me change my outlook on life and I'm truly grateful to have found you. I wish you all the best.

Also love this topic aswell, i tried meditation with the headspace app (for some reason the british accent of the guy its so relaxing to me 😂) but I just lost track of it, the way I enjoy meditation the most is by listening to my surroundings and focusing on them, its something my third grade teacher once encourage us to do, just closing the eyes and listening to all the sounds, its pretty interesting. In my case, I always put this thought in front of me when I am with someone. Listening to others (not only being there present yourself pretending listing to them but hearing them out or feel for them) is more important than you talking to them. Then naturally my present is there spontaneously and the conversation can get click faster and deeper with others.

I can check my messages when my mind is READY to do so, and not be pulled away from whatever I was focusing on. I've also realized that my inclination to multitask while watching KZbin does NOT work for me! LOL My KZbin experience is too interactive, so I need to be present with whatever chore I'm doing, and later, present even when indulging in the pleasure of KZbin time. ;)

I sometimes get carried away from worries and find myself unable to enjoy the people and situations I love. And I actually distract myself on purpose through radio or youtube videos from silence and feeling alone while I am don´t stuff that don´t fulfill me. But I assure too meditation clears the mind and gives you an ability to see the life from another more beneficial perspective. It´s just like working out, you have to get yourself into it and practice it regularly to see the results. And I agree, I appreciate when people are present, not checking phones and just show interest and enjoyment in the activity with me.

Thank you Mimi for doing a sit down video after such along time, I'm truly grateful :) I felt really heartwarmed because I feel exactly the same way about being present and agreed with everything you said. Please do more of these videos Xx

Hi Mimi! Thank you for doing this video! I'd love to watch more on this topic. Personally, I've been practising mindfulness for around 7 months using Calm (I felt so happy when you said you're an investor because it truly is a great app) and I've seen a great deal of improvement in my lifestyle and my mental wellbeing. Thank you for encouraging mindfulness for so many years, and I'm so glad you helped me do it (and a couple of good people too). Sending you good wishes.

Wonderful video! I think you give great advice, I personally struggle with letting go of the past and enjoying the now, so I am excited to start implementing the things you have mentioned. I remember a couple of years ago where you posted a similar video to this (giving advice, sitting down, maybe how to be happier?) and I must say I am glad that you are still in my life, talking about things that really matter. Your content is amazing, I really appreciate it. Personally, I also find that sometimes listening to music while cooking can even be too much stimuli, other times not at all- so I guess a part of it is also knowing yourself and how to listen to your body. Most of the time it will let you know whats right for you at this moment. All the best!

Dear Mimi, the thing that didn't allow me to be present while watching your video was thinking about how to thank you :)) I love you so much and happy and grateful to have a "friend" like you in my life XXX

Interesting. Actually I’ve been evaluating lately what activities I can do in the same time and which ones must be done alone, with no distractions. For example, I can listen to the French news (I’m French living in L.A.) while I’m doing my laundry or fold my clothes, or clean a room, but when I work on my online job or when I prepare my extension of stay for my visa, these are things which need to be done with a lot of focus on them. So, no distraction. I am always searching for the efficiency and logic in the same time. I cannot listen to music when I am working on something serious, because I have a tendency to be attracted by the music and I end up singing along. For sure it’s better to be present when we have company, otherwise, what’s the point? I really like your video because they always make me think of things I was already considering before without putting a name on it. Your videos clarify the things for me, so thank you.

I loved this topic It is really hard the meditation thing it is truly internal exercise I have constantly reminders to meditate 😄 .... But when I stick to it I have noticed more peace and overall more authenticity I feel more connected to myself and it allows me to be more present and focus 👑😍 A tip that I like to be present is to BREATH and. Previous to that I do it bc I feel the tension in my body bc previous to that I am having a negative though so internally I said to myself "calm down, breath, relax the body bring you self to the present moment and then I feel better to tackle that thought from the route or the situation"

Love this topic! I read the Power of Now. I totally get it on how deep the information goes in that book. It took me awhile to finish it also. One way I try to be present is to bring myself to the present moment and be grateful for whatever is happening at that time (having a home, being with my child, being healthy, doing something interesting, etc.)

Mimi, you incredible person you❤️ Thank you for this video! It’s so close to what I’m trying to achieve right now and am struggling with creating a balance of how to use SoMe and not let SoMe use me. I’ve deleted Instagram, snapchat and Facebook from my phone and haven’t even been on FB/IG from my desktop either. That in itself has made life easier for me and I’m so much more present. However, I’m trying to build a personal brand which is not possible if I don’t have either one those, so I’m trying to find a balance that suits my peace of mind and creativity on SoMe. But thanks for sharing your insights on this gruelling battle of trying to avoid letting technology take over your life. Love you!
