Hello from Olympia, WA! First off I just want to say that your videos are very informative, until I started watching your videos I did not know that you could do bookkeeping as an independent contractor. I always thought that I wanted to be an Accountant until I realized that Bookkeepers do not have to deal with taxes, which was the part of accounting that I dreaded. I am about to start my journey starting my own LLC and I have to say I am extremely excited but also very nervous. I am about to take an Accounting Clerk certification program at my local community college to help get a refresher as its been almost 15 years since I have been in school. Again, thank you so much for taking the time making these videos, they are definitely valuable.

I finished the QBO Proadvisor certification and am about ready to file my LLC. I also have a few potential clients lined up. I feel very nervous about actually starting to work on clients' books, but am excited too. I majored in business and have on-the-job past experience with expense tracking and POs, A/R, A/P, and financial statements, but have never been specifically a bookkeeper before. I have been taking the DIY route with learning bookkeeping, but am also planning to start an accounting certificate at a university this fall to open up future career opportunities.

Hi Morgan, thank you for the valuable information you provide. I came across your video just this morning when I was searching for QB information. I have seen just 2 videos, but I am planning to watch many more, since I am very comfortable with the details that you provide. I used QB program (desktop) many years ago (I don’t believe there was the option for QBO) for the company I was working for. For my personal finances I use Quicken, but I am very interested to expand my capacity and learn QB and also get my certification. I am very detailed oriented and I am very good with numbers. Since last year I’ve been considering Accounting/Bookkeeping but now is when I am going forward with the decision of doing it for a living, for real. Thank you, again, for all your videos.

I have a background in databases, spreadsheets and business intelligence that should be helpful in understanding and being a successful bookkeeper. You do not need any experience to start in bookkeeping. You do need to have a willingness to learn and grow along the way and have a basic knowledge getting started. The certification is a great first step to gain some credibility and learn basic QuickBooks. -Gabe (FinePoints Admin)
