I think what is also important is to never, ever give up on developing your skills, and accept that you have to always go through all kinds of emotions during this journey. You can't always feel "in love", obsessed, excited and motivated, there will be many times when you'll feel down, tired or even scared, wanting to quit or at least take some breaks and it's all fine. As long as you keep going back on track, no matter what, you'll always make a progress.

I’m a mangaka , I’m from Greece, my manga has physical copies and is being published by Dark Horse , same publisher that’s publishing Berserk, Mob psycho etc. my manga is called Tomahawk Angel, it’s a new manga , hasn’t even been released yet ( releases on October 31st). Anyway, I started at 17 and now I’m 23. I’ve been drawing every single day for the last 6 years, 10 hours of work a day minimum. what this guy is saying about obsession is true. It can get very bad very fast if you’re not careful with your schedule. Thankfully I’m able to control my schedule, I’m producing what I need to produce every day and I’m staying fit , and I also have time to play games. I sleep at 6 am and wake up at 12 pm because I can. In other words a lot of freedom to shape my own schedule. Generally, it’s a matter of habit, if you get used to it and find a balance, it’s honesty doable.

Awesome take DD! I could probably say I'm obsessed with my story and characters because I think about them almost all day, even when I'm not working on it. One thing I do tell myself is to have a break at least one day a week because I know me, and I could run myself ragged. To those who have the schedule to work on their craft all day every day, y’all are the real ones, but please be sure to keep your physical and mental health in mind.

DD Thank you. I discovered your channel this past week, and I swear I've never felt so inspired before. A week ago I was unmotivated and unsitisfied with my art, specially a small project I'm currently working on. But your videos have helped me change my perspective on so many things. Now I'm determined, determined to finish my short story, determined to study other artists and improve my skills, determined to make more oneshots, but on top of all, I'm determined to have fun while doing all of this. I feel like my own little Shonen protagonist ready to take on the world. I know my art won't be perfect, and that there will always be room for improvement, but I've never felt so motivated to travel said journey and improve. Before I saw manga as a thing I enjoyed and wanted to try and do, never sure about what I trully wanted to do in the future, but now, well I feel like this is something I really want to do! I want to share my storys with the world in manga format. And I have you to thank for that, for making me have this small realization about myself. Thank you DD, really.

I've been wanting to make manga (or some other type of story medium) for years now, and wanting to find success in my art as well. I think I just need to sit down and work like crazy because I love art. the editing in this video is also top notch man, you're a great youtuber next to a mangaka ! crazy inspiring!

For me, just the fact that it's being published would already be an achievement, you see, it's not something so easy, plus being your first manga published in the middle of a market that even good authors are cancelled. In my opinion, becoming popular is one more bonus of getting to such a place.

You also have to define success. Bill Watterson from Calvin and Hobbes retired in the 90s. He had a career that spanned maybe 10 years, without working himself to death. Watterson also retained most of the rights to his work. I think politics and mismanagement can also drive grueling hours, like with any field. If you have a boss who is a driver, then you will work like a slave. Kevin Eastman/Peter Laird, and Don Rosa also achieved success without destroying themselves.

This is something Im already aware of. That not everyone wants things equally, and those that tend to make it big are DRIVEN far beyond most folks. While I want to become a big time manga artist, I cant live that kind of unbalanced life. I have a job, gym, and friends to consider. Im just not willing to cut those things out to the necessary degree (that mangaka daily schedule...yikes). Ive already cut out video games and movies in favour of art and am able to crank out a page a week, but thats about it. its a shame that seemingly becoming a pro artist and having a balanced healthy live seem at odds with each other. But at the end of the day you make time for the things you want to do, and I stand by my choices.
@bobbysmitty1628 Жыл бұрын
From what I've seen, the ones who appear to work these grueling hours are the ones who have little to no rights to their work. They have to work to appease their handlers. Indie artists such as Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes), Kevin Eastman/Peter Laird (TMNT), and Don Rosa (Donald Duck) seemed to have shorter careers and made an international impact while being able to live off their art. I believe it's possible.

Seeing how far you've come,it inspires me all niqqas who watches your videos , I'm more of an Author but I also have an extreme desire to be the best manga artist like Tite Kubo and Murata Yusuke since they are like my idols so I can illustrate my stories. My question is what is the fastest way I can be better at drawing in order to present my stories in form of a manga or comic 👀🙂, don't get me wrong I'm not looking for a short cut but just few mechanism I can implement to be faster at drawing like you

There is another secret to making great manga that most people ignore, be fine with failure. I see so many people with that love of making Manga in their eyes, but never release anything because it's shit. It's not going to get any better if you avoid the inevitable and don't release anything, but if you work on one small project and release it, you will learn so much.

Happy for your success 😀💯. Another key thing I would say is to not worship another artist. I believe it can keep you from creating your own greatness, and it wastes time. Kobe Bryant (RIP) admired Michael Jordan. However, when he saw MJ, he wasn't starstruck. When he saw him he would ask him, do you have your hooping shoes? Why?....Because he wanted to challenge him, not be a starry-eyed fan all day. Mangaka are people, with an arm and a hand to draw just like you. Westerners have some of, if not the longest work hours in the world on average. Most of us are capable of putting in the work. The question is, will you? That love has to translate to work, otherwise you're just a fan. Progress is a process. Put in the time. ✊
