I found it very hard on my way up to ask my more experienced senior IT people to help them on projects or duties. Due a mixture of them being busy, feeling threatened, and/or outright just not being inclined to I had to get certifications to show people I was willing to spend my own time and dime to validate I was interested in things not currently on my resume. I wish I could have found a professional mentor as such, but I didn't and haven't heard of anyone in my life who had either Just too much pressure on everyone and maybe too much competition 🤷🏾‍♂️

I'm in a third world country and can't afford the comptia a+ cert fees. I am hoping to do some remote work to earn and pay for my cert exams. How do i stand out to employers on upwork or linkedin? Is the google IT support cert any good as a start? I plan on doing homelabs to show initiative.

This is a good explanation also I was considering pursuing a CCNA but honestly, I really enjoyed learning VMware in school. Now I want to become a System Admin... Would a VCP-NV Cert be good alone for this type of position? Thank you for your content!
@TechWithEmilio
@TechWithEmilio 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. A VCP is great, a CCNA is also good. The CCNA will give you a good overall foundation for networking, which will come in very handy when you are configuring the networks within VMware environments. Hope that helps

Do you think the systems administrator field is dying , also what are the careers path for a systems administrator to become after being an administrator for a while?
@TechWithEmilio
@TechWithEmilio 4 жыл бұрын
hey, thanks for your comment. No i don't think it's dying, if anything it's growing. The skills are changing with a higher focus on cloud computing. Sys admin's can focus on Server, Storage, Datacenter, Cloud, etc...but also work closely on Security and Network infrastructure. Hope that helps.

Is it possible for a Computer Science major to get into this world and potentially do system administration or systems engineering or is it something more reserved for IT.@@TechWithEmilio

What is the average salary bracket for System Administrator?
@TechWithEmilio
@TechWithEmilio 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Syed Siraj Rizvi, really depends on what the Sys Admin is working on, their experience, the company and country. They can start on a low salary and work up to much higher salaries. i would say range of 70-120k

Digital Byte Computing : Thank You for your reply. I m currently looking to change my career. I want to make a change because I really enjoy this stuff and I want to be a system admin and not because of money reasons but I was still very curious to know the income bracket because I m already helping a company with 2 servers and 28 client PCs running on a domain. I want to learn as much as I can before I can call myself a System Administrator. I look forward to watch more of your videos. Thanks a lot!

@@SIRAJ-1618 Glassdoor is your answer for any future salary questions. And even better because you can specify specific duties, and location. Which is *VERY* important because you _will_ get paid differently for the same _exact_ job in two different cities For example $70k is a little high for a system engineer in Orlando, FL (where I live) on average, but very low on average for someone in California So I suggest checking Glassdoor, or even Indeed, for the most specific information for yourself

Hi Brian, thanks for your comment. Good certificates which are very foundational are the CCNA from Cisco, and MCSA from Microsoft. Hope that helps.

@@brianalexander6174 other than getting certifications (I'd throw in CompTIA too) you can do what I did to stumble into IT. Get a call center job that involves technology If you search job boards (such as CareerBuilder) there are literally thousands of jobs in or near any metropolitan area for call centers, and nowadays a lot of them are remote so physical location matters even less If you find a job that has minimum requirements of high school diploma and like working knowledge of Microsoft office programs, and stuff like "team player", "solve problems", "customer service", stuff like that, that's a great way to gain real practical experience working in IT If you gain the experience and couple that with at least one good cert (to start), you'll be on your way to a very lucrative IT career I just told you my path from warehouse worker to applications analyst to systems engineer. It doesn't take nearly as long as you imagine Good luck mate!

@@brianalexander6174 don't let it take too long to get into that IT Department. In this economy sometimes it's easier to get a new job than it is to get a raise So I'm saying you could probably get snatched up very fast by a new company, rather than waiting for your current one to recognize what they already have Something about human nature. Free agents are always appreciated more than people already on the roster. If you watch sports you'll really understand my analogy Good job, and I wish you well
