How to Break 80 - Shooting 77 - ABP Birdie Bank System and NEVER GIVE UP

This is the first in a series of rounds to show how I dropped to a 4 handicap by July 2018 in the space of a month. My best friend and I played 9 rounds in 9 days together on his trip to Thailand.
STORE: waddaplayagolf...
This is my round from Sea Pine golf course in Hua Hin. It’s an army course and it’s built with three of the holes being ocean side. Without the wind, the course is quite tame though.
The main point of this video is to introduce the important concept of ABP. It’s a movement I hope will pick up to increase the number of birdies we all make, worldwide.
The second point of this video is to show that breaking 80 is just not that glamorous. You need to grind sometimes and just NEVER GIVE UP. I was looking at an 82 in this round, maybe worse. But I managed to hold on to record a decent score.
JOIN THE MOVEMENT
/ waddaplaya
/ golfsidekick
golfsidekick.com/
I played another 6 rounds in June 2018 making it 15 for the month. I spent all my money on golf. And I shot some great scores.
Next round will be Black Mountain where I shot my best score in years.
And then a special one from Dynasty where I shot an even better score, equaling my best ever.
You’ll find a lot of similarities in these rounds. I don’t hit a lot of greens in regulation and often the 666 Golf Sidekick method is followed.
The main point of the 666 system is that you can be happy to miss 66% of the greens and get up and down only 50% of the time and cut yourself some slack and you’ll still be in with a good shout at shooting below 80.
Hit it straight, get it close to the green, chip or putt. Smile. Drink beer.

Never give up! A couple years ago a round started terribly, being 7 over after 7 holes. Then I played the next 11 holes in 1-under, giving me a respectable 78. You never know when things will turn around.

i'm not very good at golf.. i started playing about 3 years ago and am now in the lower 20's (21,7 EGA HCP).. today i was walking a 9 hole round and it really didn't go very well, however i did find a feather, so when i saw it, i picked it up and planted it. I even sent a picture of the feather with the quote "plant a feather, grow a birdie" to some family members that also play golf.. this happened at hole 6. I played a birdie (my approx. 5th or 6th on a big course) at hole 9 to end my round.. please explain the science behind this, as i have seen that this really works.

I love your channel and have begun my thought process to playing stress free golf almost every Rd now. My one question would be... How do you just eliminate the duff or penalties. I practice a lot nmbut somehow just still manage to get 10 penalties on lost balls or 2 or 3 duffs with those penalties causing my score to skyrocket quick. Any suggestions would be great!
@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 5 жыл бұрын
Brian Canady is the shot stress free? If its not, use what is zero stress. Go to a par three or executive course, preferably a quiet public cheap course and if you screw up a shot, think about why you did. Then play it better with the same club and new thought prcoess or try a new club that puts you in a stress free mindset. Hit it until you get it right. Build the confidence. Learn the think and play box and then use them. Think of nothing in the play box. Just execute yoir plan.

Another fantabulous video Matt!!! Priceless pic of the three off you guys lined up! Way to hang in there after putting in the big boy panties. Question: how do you play an unfamiliar course? With lower expectations, or seeking the same results as those familiar to you? BTW, shot an 82 Monday, that would be Tuesday for you. Still seeking that breaking 80 moment. I was very pleased with that score considering the slope was 133. Keep up the great work and ABP, ABP, ABP!!!
@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 6 жыл бұрын
Yo DF I will make a video on this, great idea. But here is a condensed version. I look for the same results but if a course doesn't suit my eye in the first 4 holes, I know it's gonna be a struggle. Dynasty, where I shoot some videos, was like that and I conquered it after about 10 rounds. Black Mountain, Rose Garden, suited me perfectly first time out. Fast slick slopey greens, holes set up the way I like. If it's a tough course, like Blue Sapphire I played with Golf Every Second, then I need to rely on lines off the tee given to me by someone else. Big drops in elevation will also wreak havoc first time out. That makes me uncomfortable so I just let it happen. Second round out, always will be better by maybe 8-10 shots. So if it suits my eye in the first 4, I will shoot 72-80 first time out. If it doesn't, I expect 78-86 especially if there are blind tee shots. 1. I measure with my rangefinder from the tee to the stakes 200, 150, 100 yards. Then aim to the fairway next to them with whatever club will get there. But I aim for something 400 yards away on that line, never to the spot in the fairway. I like to feel like I am swinging to a target on the line I chose that is unreachable which calms me down because I know I can't reach it so I swing easy. 2. I use an app like GolfShot to look at the layout of the hole on the tee. 3. I use the rangefinder to shoot to the bunker lips to work out carry. 4. If the pin is left, I got right, if the pin is right, I go left. If the pin is center, I go center. So I just go center and often to the back edge unless trouble back, then I go center. 5. If I can see the slope on the green and many tiers, I shoot distance to the pin and try pick the exact club I need for that distance. and try never get onto a higher tier than the pin. 6. Have fun and enjoy the new surroundings. Look out for birds because I birdwatch. Admire the scenery and imagine the next round where I would hit the ball or putt it or avoid.

Golf Sidekick thank you for the insight and thoughtful response. You have a great way of looking at the courses you play, a great mental approach. I’m sure that is something you’ve developed over time, and picking your brain has definitely helped my game since I’ve been following you. I read through the breaking 80 guide on your sight, and you really simplify things. I have a buddy who overthinks everything in his game, and it puts a damper on his rounds. Love your videos! Do you have a strategy for my game to improve, please? Handicap 14, Shortgame as good as yours, off the tee extremely inconsistent with all clubs- Driver, 3-Wood, 3-Hybrid, 4-iron - lots of penalties, sub-100 yard shots etc.
@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 6 жыл бұрын
Take one those clubs and hit them off every tee and at every range session. Get a go to club from the tee - I highly suggest a 5 wood 17° to 19°.. If it's impossible to get the feeling and a nice consistent shot grooved yourself, I would suggest a professional lesson with someone who won't change your swing. And also getting fit for a driver or 4 wood or set of irons will help you. It depends on many factors. Are the clubs too heavy for you, shafts the right flex? Are they too long or short for you? Are they set up in a way to maximize the swing you have? Are you mentally defeated on the tee?

MMEZA Meza It was a newer club in my bag having never had one before, so what affects it is: Wind direction, power of that particular swing, strike quality (sky the ball vs flush it), shot shape, swing confidence, shot type, preshot thoughts, many factors my good man. In my two club video using just a 6 iron, I hit it between 110 and 200 yards too. Chipped with it as well. Since I am not a pro, my strikes can be all over the place like most amateurs.

Holes are also mapped out along the middle of the fairway. As the crow flies on the 16th, the hole is much shorter by cutting the water so that ball may appear to have gone over 300 but it was shorter than that even with the wind. The hole wouldve been measured ip the center of the fairway wrapped around the left side of the lake.

MMEZA Meza No problem to ask sir. Just wanna make a clear explanation so also when people hit a driver, they should measure it accurately too. It would be dishonest to claim I hit the hybrid 300 yards LOL

How far did you hit that 19 degree hybrid on the 16th hole? Is it really a 529 yard par 5? These videos are great, keep up the good work!
@GolfSidekick

Tim Honda It was with the wind so I reckon 260-270 yards was my best strike of the day with a nice draw so top spinned. Was 15 yards short of my friends driver distance. But they measure the hole distance around the water not AS THE CROW FLIES from tee to green so cutting the water out reduced the hole length a lot. Deceiving. Theres no way I hit it 320.

Happy birthday holes mean you make a mess and accept the bogey or double or triple as part of the round and understand it is fine. We never do rehits OB, we retee and hit 3 from the tee.

@@GolfSidekick , Gotcha thanks.. I'm at a point where your Course management ideas will help me get back to shooting mid 80s. Ive gone to crap lately after about a year off.. I like the new rule that if you absolutely BOMB a drive and it goes out of bounds, you can drop there within 2 club lengths in the fairway and be hitting 4.. It speeds up golf a little bit and if it was a BOMB youd have to hit it that far on the retee to be hitting 4 from there anyway.

@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 6 жыл бұрын
Give me a week to get lead times, order process, payment process and stuff set up. My main question is, can people wait 5-6 week to get the shirts? Cos I am not a business, so I rely on a shirt maker to do it and then need to ship them out playa. That's my main concern, unless you know a great manufacturer in the states.

There are some holes I see you hit a 19 deg hybrid 250-260 yards and then a 9 iron to 150 yds. You must be a scratch or better player or you had wind assisting those shots.
@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 4 жыл бұрын
Some holes wind assisted. Some holes not. Distance does not always equal scratch. If there is no control or no short game, distance means nothing and that same person could be playing off a 17 handicap.
@MGN01
@MGN01 4 жыл бұрын
Golf Sidekick yes I totally get the importance of the short game. But one cannot ignore the fact that having to hit an 8 or 9 iron into every green is better than a 6 or 5 each time.

So you have never heard of the error of parallax? Lol the ball is always going to look closer when looking down the line than it will from a side angle when the camera is set below the green. If I were to put the camera even lower to the ground, the putt would look even closer. This is Not rocket surgery really.
