I literally live- I reside- in the shame/avoidance cycle. It isn’t something that comes up here and there. It’s the way I operate every single day. And I *know* these things. I’m already super aware of why I’m doing what I’m doing (or not doing). The fact that I’m conscious of it makes me feel even worse.

thank you so much for this video. I broke down into tears while listening because I identified with it so much. I recently was tested and given the diagnosis of having a executive function deficit. so many years of feeling shame and avoiding very important things in my life has a name. I am not alone, I am not messed up or incompetent. thank you so much for this video.

Omg this is so mind-blowing. The part about that women who avoid her friends because she didn't answered. I remember when I didn't message back the birthday congratulations and feel so bad, every year when is close to my birthday is the same feel. I've been more alert to that toxic shame and thoughts. It's reeealy heavy sometimes even for simple things. Some days when I wake up, I ask myself if I had talk or did something bad the past days and so on

The idea that logical thinking will free us w ADHD from avoidance missed that we've generally already tried that and it didn't work. It sounded a lot like, just think about things differently. "Just pull out of that" thinking - like, I would if I could. Not super helpful, sorry.

I've been able to mindfully take on tasks or broken a task down into small pieces. But I agree that logical thinking doesn't help me work through a task

You can only do it for so long actually before your brain says enough and takes a break. You suppress your sense of humor when you do it for so long and become dull and uninteresting. Uggh.

Not that logic will help us from ADGD. It's the belief that rationality with help us escape the *shame spiraling* specifically since shame is an emotional response. The spiraling is irrational, and we typically get to that point because we've overexaggerated something and became fixated on it. I'm only seeing this video today. In thinking about all the recent shame spirals I've experienced, the rational response/ mapping things out has helped me escape the hurricane *every time.*
